La Bella Vita (New DJ Solo)

Recommended Posts

Is the solo available on Youtube? Stream not working.

Well, after hearing this, I can't help re-assessing this guy a little.

I still don't like his look, or some of the cheesy stage-moves, and he isn't a great technical guitarist. But he seems to have an ear for a melody, and that is what GNR have been sorely missing. So maybe Axl knows what he's doing after all.

I think that's what Axl said he was going for in the USA Today interview a year ago. Hopefully they work something out.

This is bad for a number of reasons.

1) it's bad porno music

2) his bending intonation is terrible, and his phrasing is 1-dimensional

3) his note choices are bland, and very much off the shelf

4) it's another cringeworthy french song title

5) it's pretty much the same thing he plays for all his solo's, nothing new

6) It's playing with "feeling" but in actuality, feeling is the very thing this is missing

7) Dj would probably be a nice jingle writer, but as a songwriter for a rock band... no thanks, this isn't a gnr song but it shows his limited imagination when it comes to arrangements, rhythmic ideas, harmony and all the fundamentals of solid song writing.

I for one will be getting a beer when this one comes on at the next Gnr show I attend.

If someone wants to do reasons why it's good you're more than welcome :rofl-lol:

I hope Guns never release a new album.

Chinese was great in some ways. You cannot say it was a great album. Getting all the stuff from Chinese sessions 1998-2008 would be amazing but... Please don't release a GnR album with Ashba's guitar playing on it.

I started playing guitar 10 years ago. Not a great player but Ashba must be deaf. No feeling at all. I can hear the difference between what he wants to sound like and how he really sounds. He's always late. Even if you want to sound sharp you need to be sensible. Not talking about being fast but at least accurate. You cannot express yourself if you play like him. It's horrible. He'd love to have this Steve Vai's vibe, but my cat can play better the electric guitar.

If you like it that's cool... Many people love shit. You are not the only one.

You're right man, he just doesn't have the natural sense of rhythm that past gunners and the other two current guys have. I don't think he's a good guitarist. I didn't like Robin, thought he took far too much creative freedom with classic slash solos but he was competent and he could write great melodic solos for original material. Dj is an average bar band guitar player, on a world stage he is far from what's expected at that level. I doubt anyone in the band minds though or takes much notice.

I'm sure there's the argument that "gnr aren't supposed to be virtuosos, Dj plays from the heart" Slash wasn't a virtuoso but he played in time, bent his string in tune and played with great feel (the majority of the time at least).

Can't agree more. Only one thing, when you say :"I doubt anyone in the band minds though or takes much notice."

They all know he's not talented. I guess they know Axl loves the guy probably because he was abused too or who knows why and no-one in the band is brave enough or idiot enough to say Ashba's playing is shit. If they said it they would probably be fired.

Ashba is deaf and if someone likes his playing then that someone is deaf too.

Lack of technique but also lack of sensibility which is much more important as you say.

I'm not a big fan of DJ's antics/look/etc, but some of you people just want to hate on this solo just because it's him playing it..To me, it sounds like it would fit right in with the old GNR sound..Some of you people need to get minds of your own and stop with all the hate..

Not that your talking to me specifically or possibly at all but my problems with him are solely based on his playing, I don't care about his antics or looks. I don't the hate the guy, I really dislike his playing though. Minds of your own...? I think most people who like Dj, like him because he's the guitar player for GnR, not because he's a talent. Dj is a good entertainer but he needs to work less on selling his image and whatever else and focus on his guitar playing.

Dj is a blues based soloer, 90% of all guitar players play like that, doesn't make Dj or any of the rest of them special, what makes them stand out is something that's new or interesting or a fantastic grasp of the instrument (Slash, Robben ford, eric johnson, SRV, clapton being good examples). Yes, his solo was melodic but did it actually go anywhere?

I would like to say that, I don't mind if Guns release an album with Dj as I know Axl would be very picky about parts and vibe so he would push Ashba to play well.

I think it sounds like it would make an excellent GnR song, if u could get Axl to put some words to it. I can't stand all the solos at the concerts, they rob all the energy from the band. I do think this line up is capable of making some great music, but I am really getting tired of waiting

Wow. So you have the power to "know" what people are thinking and the reason they do things.

You might not believe this, but it is actually possible that people might just like different styles of music than you do. Not everybody is obsessed with the Slash-vs-theworld thing like some of you are. We don't base our opinions on how things are tied to Axl Rose.

I don't care who played it. It is boring, generic and there is nothing original or exciting about it. And I also don't want a reunion and I wish Axl would put out music with his current band. Mind blown? See, I base my music taste on what sounds good to my ears. I don't care how it effects Axl Rose.

Some people need to get minds of their own? You might want to apply that sentence to yourself.

Whether you're happy with Slash or not and his history with GNR or if you like his post guns efforts or not, I really can not fathom how someone can say DJ is better than Slash in just about any measure. His eyes are more blue? His hair straightens easier? That's about it.
