robin2002
Great idea for a thread What an outstanding gig this is - again, how anyone can say the current lineup is better than this is in my opinion just an idiot. There may be a few sloppy moments, but it's a proper rock n' roll gig! Look forward to next weeks GOTW Edited May 29, 2014 by robin2002

Daedalus
'88 era killed. The Philly show is something special too. Haven't seen this yet so will check out later.Yeah, Philly is my favorite.88 really is the shit: Philly, Tokyo shows, Ritz, Felt Forum, Phoenix, Limelight (New York), Compton Terrace (Chandler) + VMA's (welcome to the jungle) and The Late Show (used to love her, you're crazy). NY festival show is very cool also.

NY festival show is very cool also.I meant 1988.01.31, New YorkInformation: Acoustic / electric show. The set starts out acoustic, with one of two known performances of "One In A Million". "Cornshucker" is performed - possibly the only time it was. After "Don't Cry" the band takes a break, only to return for an electric set. "Patience" was performed acoustically and electrically, and after the 2nd version, Axl leaves the stage, pissed because the band wasn't supposed to do the electric set. He later returns for short moments during the following instrumental jam, to sing parts of "Whole Lotta Rosie" and "Born To Be Wild". After the jam, "Rocket Queen" is started, but stopped after a while. A roadie then takes the mic and they do Willie Nelson's "You Shook Me" and Led Zeppelin's "Rock And Roll", without Axl. Apparantely there were some misunderstandings, because when the roadie started singing "Rock And Roll", the band actually started playing "Living Loving Maid (She's Just A Woman)" by Led Zeppelin. Axl comes back on stage during "Rock And Roll" and does some backin' vocals. During the set, the band has girls dancing in cages.
Mastodonny
I saw them about a week before this show. Great memories.
classicrawker
There were some really excellent shows in 1988 but Axl also had some voice problems at times and the band was really fucked up that year. When I saw them open for Aerosmith at 2 shows in Mansfield Massachusetts Axl's voice was shot.Personally I prefer the shows from 1987 as Appetite was still fresh for the band and Axl's voice was in fine form....Of course I may be a bit prejudiced as I saw them twice in 1987 at the L"Amour and the Ritz ( much better show then the 88 MTV performance IMHO)................... bigpoop
I saw them two days after this at the Orpheum in Boston and they were incredible. Slash says in his book that this run of headline shows in the Spring of '88 were some of their best ever.
GNRfan2008
This show was fucking awesome. Would pay huge money for a time machine trip so I could witness the entire 1988 year as something other than a toddler, haha.
