AtariLegend
They just announced the release date of "Warlords of Draenor" the new expansion for 11-13-14. Which won't be far off the 10th Anniversary. I've been in Beta for a while now and I have some mixed feelings on it, but I'm glad they're leaving another 3 months to sort out the content. The basis is there. However there's many issues there that objectively need sorted more for the long term future as opposed to the short term of issues of annoying subscribers.Anyone else play the world's most famous long running MMO? luciusfunk
I used to play, but financial situation and boredom stopped me. My wife and I plan on going back with the new xpac though. I was a badass healer if I do say so.
AxlisOld
People still play WoW?Never played it. Don't get how people got so lost in it. I knew a guy who would play for like 20 hours straight and then wonder why his back hurt all the time. Derr....
Anguyen92
I used to play that game in middle school and high school for about four years or so. I had a great time. I was playing a DPS Warrior and mainly doing battlegrounds and fared well doing it. I stopped because my internet and computer was slowly down really badly at the time and it couldn't support WoW.Nowadays, I follow a couple of people from youtube and watched videos of the game in its latest expansion and seen clips of the beta and alpha of Warlords of Draenor and I'll admit it, it kinda makes me want to come back to it and maybe I may get that chance to play it again in the nearest future. luciusfunk
I started playing again last night. Not too sure about the xpac though. Time travel and all.
Forsaken
Game started to suck after the 1st expansion. Too much change and too over the top. Personally I loved vanilla WoW with the lvl cap at 60. It just sucks now.

Mysteron
I never got into thisI do not know whether it was this exactly, but aspects of this gaming was stolen from MUDS which I played back in the day, and still play now, occasionally. So, I roll with the forefather of this type of gaming

Vanilla WoW was awesome but all the expansions just watered the game down. Most of the people that play now have no idea how great WoW once was. You now have Pandas walking around and such a clusterfuck of an interface and all these added abilities and shit. It's just weird. The direction Blizzard took was a wrong one. luciusfunk
It's not that bad. Plus Pandaren have been around since the Warcraft days before they made World of Warcraft.

Stopped playing when Cataclysm came out tbh anyway. Just couldn't adapt to all the changes.

Too many rose tinted glasses. The combat system back then was horrible, classes revolving around spamming 1 or 2 buttons. The raiding experience of Molten Core ect. 40 Player raids where half the raid could AFK and the bosses had barely any mechanics. The lower level quests that weren't removed from that time period are extremely fucking tedious. Why would Blizzard spend money to maintain servers that will never be updated, to suit a small percentage of the fan base. Many of whom would get bored very easily after a few months. The game was at it's peak during Wrath of the Lich King subscriber wise and had alot of max level content. Things went down the drain during Cataclysm due to lack of content, long waits and the introduction of LFR. Mists was actually the most polished expansion. The questing wasn't completly tedious and the end game content such as Zorlok, Protectors of the Endless, Lei Shen HC ect was extremely satisfying to beat. Even in Cataclysm stuff like Sinestra. Al'Akir, Ragnaros HC were miles ahead of what the game was even capable off. The games is in a much better place from a technical stand point, but Blizzard are greedy and aren't exactly popping out expansions/content fast enough. There's been basically a year between the final major patch of the last set of expansions which just isn't enough for a subscription based game. The UI is much better now than it was in Cata, and is getting greatly improved in 6.0 (I play on Beta).Pandaria was always going to be added into the game at some point (just not originally as an expansion). However you'll be hard pressed to find someone that argues that Cata was a better expansion than Mists that actually played through it.As for the abilities complaint, can I ask what classes you played? luciusfunk
They say they plan on doing an expansion every year, though they said that when they announced MoP. One thing I preferred Cata over MoP was dailies. MoP sometimes seems like all you're doing is daily after daily. But I guess it gives you something to do if you're not into raiding. And I don't mind LFR too much, because I was never too into raiding. The only at-level raids (non-LFR) I've done were Blackwing Descent as my hunter and healing Dragon Soul on my priest. AtariLegend
Just pointing out that as of last year at least other people did actually still play it.That's also why it won't be going free to play anytime soon however.
Anguyen92
^^ It's free to play till level 20 though I totally get what you mean about that.
luciusfunk
Yeah it used to just be a seven day trial, now it's all the way to 20. From my understanding, it doesn't cut you off, you just can't go any higher in level.

Forsaken
Never got into it.Yup, played SWG, LOTRO, a bit of D&D: Online, never thought to pick up WoW.SWG was the best MMO i've EVER played, before the Combat Upgrade and the New Game Enhancement updates, which essentially made it a cheap WoW clone and killed the game. I miss that game so much, shame it had to turn into absolute shit and shut down. It was completely unique and nothing compared.
luciusfunk
Got a new PC tonight and I can actually play WoW on high settings. Did an ability and my first reaction was "that's what it does?!"
AtariLegend
Wish I had that.FYI my PC can barely handle 25's on live, but on Mythic testing atm (20 mans) it's runs almost like a 5 man.Someone suggested reduced spell effect clutter, that's maybe it. Not sure, either way it's much better now.

I started SWG in early '04, played on Lowca for a bit, then moved to Euro-Chimaera when the Euro servers came out (don't remember why ). Had a little green Rodian, Jedi sometime in mid '05. With a few friends started one of the biggest Rebel guilds on the server (died off after CU though). What a blast, JTL was great too, loved my Jedi Starfighter, I spent hours killing Black Sun Marauders to get that darn helmet, and it didn't even look good on Rodians . Had an alt who was MBH/M Combat Medic most of the time, was always MBH but tried it combo'd with a few professions, rifleman, swordsman (major fail), and of course commando. What a great fucking game, all the memories are pouring back now. CU sucked at the time..... but man was it a million times better than NGE.I could go on and on about the game, but I don't need to tell you. I still talk with SWG friends every now and then, haven't maintained relationships from any other MMO; there was a great mature crowd on SWG until late CU, then NGE brought in the 12 year olds. Though tbh, I was around that age when I started playing, but having everyone else be 18+ forced me to not act like a cunt. RIP SWG 2003-2005. Looking back it's hard to believe the game was only great for 2.5 years, I always feel like NGE wasn't until 07/08, but then I have to look it up again. There was a great communal spirit around the emu projects in the mid 2000's, it's died down a bit, but I think one of them is still going on. I don't know if I'd get back into it...EDIT: Oh, and fuck SOE, Torres, Smedley, the lot of 'em.
