I have a similar problem when it comes to men getting my texts.   Better just respond to me or I will hunt your ass down.

Not that kind of thing. He doesn't get my replies to his texts. I send them but due to being international texts something is not working all the time. It's definitely not him ignoring me. 😊  We happen to have a very good relationship. 🙄

Were they English or Yanks, as London is full of Yanks?

You'll be perplexed again for the next two weeks also in Londontown. Extinction Rebellion return!

PS

What the heck is Pret a Manger? Sounds like a much loved Christmas carol that has been rewritten by Dazey. Just to continue the Dazey theme, Julia Hartley is going on about it on twitter.

Hows he gonna be a yank if he’s from Woking?  Pret is a sandwich shop for homosexuals.

Leicester actually isn't that bad, at least the city centre isn't (the larger conurbation running southward is rather unsavory with lots of run down terraced housing, abandoned factories and graffiti). I was there this July for a county cricket match at Grace Road and I thought it was better than its reputation - well its reputation is a bit nondescript really. Few good restaurants and pubs, e.g., (if memory serves) The Globe and O'Neills, in that old town area which reminded me of York in some respect, as well as historical bits and pieces - you certainly milk the Richard III thing, don't you? There is also a scenic canal system in Leicester: I used to walk to Grace Road via the canal into Aylestone Park which was a bit of a hike but I liked the morning walk/route.

Traitors really, Englishmen who like American sports. They used to send people like that to Tyburn at one time.

PS

Apparently Johnny Bairstow was there.

It's funny we had both been on here for years, but until we started chatting on the Beta's Barn discord server, we had not connected.

Im gonna guess that @donny doesnt use his DJ Ashba avatar in Betas Barn, then? Without that monstrosity in the way, you saw the real him? :P:lol:

Happy for you :headbang:

No he uses the same avatar there. 🤣

Actually he made a bad joke, sent me a PM to apologize, and we knew we had to see where things would go from there.  😍

I'm happy for us too, thanks.

What can I say? He is special 😊

If he wants to get a flight from the UK tell him to look at flights from Dublin in Ireland rather than trying to fly direct from the UK. When I went to see GnR in Vegas I got a return flight from Dublin for about £300 when the same flight from London was over £700.

That's good to know. 😊

At least I live near the world's busiest airport in Atlanta, so we should be able to flights direct to here. 🤔

Near enough but I kept on the other side of the river. I walked southward down the canal/river Soar from the city centre/University area, passing both the stadiums on my left on the other side of the river, and through Aylestone Park onto Aylestone Rd. I crossed to the other side of Aylestone Rd and went left a bit before entering Grace Road (I think there is a nursery on the corner of entrance) which takes you to the cricket ground, which is accessed down this little alley. There is a pub on Grace Rd called The Cricketers; if you are cheap you can watch the cricket from the balcony at the back!

I did this journey four days, there and back. Took me about 50 mins each way but I liked the walk - especially in the morning.

Finally Texas got a cool front.

It is down into the 70's and it feels amazing!

Another cool front is coming this Friday. Our temps will be down into the 60's. I love it! Not going to get too excited, because Texas' weather is crazy and it changes so fast. There could still be some 90 degree days ahead, but I'm so glad for this break.

Do black people get crap for doing whiteface? I was watching Coming To America again the other day and realized Eddie Murphy has done whiteface several times in his career, and with the recent Trudeau blackface issue in mind, I couldn't help wondering about this.

Not that I have heard of. But there is a weird sort of reverse racism thing that goes on in the US. When my son was in school, I remember a little black girl in his class told him she was going to slap the white out of him. 😖  If it had been the reverse and he had said he would slap the black out of her, all hell would have broken loose. I tried but the principal would not do anything about it. So we moved to another school district. 🙄 Yeah I was the mom that they would not mess with, I stayed on their asses if he wasn't treated fairly. 🤣

I sent a 'honey do' list, mostly about an event, so when she got to the line to "thaw beef" she texted back "with who?!"

Blackface is to do with a history associated with blackface and minstrel shows and racism, whiteface doesn't really have the same connotations because, well, no one apart from Eddie Murphy and Dave Chappelle have ever done it.  Blackface and the big painted on red lips and the curly gollywog wig and the whole minstrel show thing was deliberately and cruelly racist.  Just have a listen to a minstrel era song here:

In case you can't make out the lyrics it begins:

'its the same ol' tale about a palpitating n!gger everytime, yes everytime,

its the same ol' trouble with a coon who wants to be married very soon...'

It continues in this vein.  Its basically about a black guy that fancies a girl and can't hold onto his urges cuz, well, black people are animalistic and can't control their sexual urges etc.  And these songs were old time sing-a-long numbers, especially in pubs, the parents and grandparents of some of the posters here no doubt sang em, fuck me I know the tunes and I was born in 1983.  Blackface is basically an old theatrical thing where these ridiculous and comical caricatures of black people were made, beginning in the 19th century, it was a way of ridiculing and taking the piss out of black people, at a time when they couldn't really do nothing about it and there was no other imagery or ideas around to give you any other view of black people, hence enforcing stereotypes that still exist today, hence why you have pornos with descriptions like 'horny black bull fucks etc etc etc' or the idea that black people are lazy (going back to the old theatrical stereotype character of the lazy black cotton-picker), these are just some of the reasons why there is a heightened sensitivity around it that simply isn't there with whiteface.

I mean its telling that, through the history of mankind, you probably can't come up with many more examples than just Eddie Murphy and Dave Chappelle who have ever done whiteface.
