I have an awful memory, probably did, I do like to balance things out a bit too in terms of giving the other side its dues too.  The way I see it is everybody has some kind of a crutch in life, everyone has something that, if you take it away from them, life would become untenable and I feel like religions a bit like that.  I hate pushing a certain point of view too much too, it makes me feel like a salesman and I have to do enough of that for my daily bread to be doing it in my spare time.  But yeah, I imagine I probably did a bit.  Also, I come off a lot...harsher than I mean to be because I swear so much and that doesn't translate so well written down always.

I agree that religion shouldn't be entirely taken away from people, if it's just a personal crutch they need for fear of death. But religion like Catholicism is very unhealthy, toxic and damaging on a large scale. People need to harden up a bit and not legitimize things like pedophile sex cults lol. But they dig their heels in and get offended by being challenged by reality...seriously? No fucking way does that deserve any respect from me or anyone.

P.S. I like Ricky Gervais too but didn't think his last special was very good. Extras was really funny.

Of course religion shouldn't be taken from people. People should reject it themselves because they realize they can get on just as well without such irrational nonsense. Except for the conviction that death isn't the end, and the immense relief that is found in such a belief, there is nothing in religion that can't be replaced through secular organizations/mechanisms (community, charity, tradition, rituals, someone to confess in, someone to talk to, a sense of belonging, a sense that you are protected, a meaning, etc).

P.S.: I don't really like Gervais' standup, but I think The Office and Extras were brilliant, and so were his Emmy speeches

I know I'm not a mod, but can we get this thread back to posting stuff you bought? I'm sick of reading how the Big Bad Church is the root of all evil. At least keep that in the religious thread.

I'll keep it in the religious thread but you've got a fucking nerve trivializing the issue with hyperbole.

Nah, she is not trivializing anything and she is right on the off-topic discussions.

I really liked the final episode, especially that speech on the reality show.  Also, that exchange with Gordon Ramsey, he says everything to Ramsey that I've been dying to say ever since I saw that cunt on the telly.  'you think you're so hard don't you cuz you have a go at people in kitchens, who works in kitchens, ooo, gays and the french'

No Soul! Having one of these is worse than having a FB account. Why are we giving away all our privacy?

One thing i have noticed is the biggest like, exponents of these 'we're being listened to' theories are people that no one cares to listen to   Some no mark living in a bedsit in Aberystwyth goin' 'the fuckin' russians are clocking me through facebook', well fuck me, they must have a lot of time on their hands, I'm sure your photos of what you had for tea and your 'Girl Groups of the 90s' quiz results are invaluable to those dastardly commisars

Well, I'm an attorney and I can't tell you how valuable FB posts and even messages can be. One never thinks they'll end up in court. As for the home listening devices, they can be a bit more challenging to obtain recordings from but some judges allow. We have the right to privacy free from being listened to, whether or not there's damning conversations being recorded, it's something we should care about.

Taken as individual examples, the internet of things may seem like an innocuous presence as it listens, monitors and watches. But taken as a whole there are serious implications.

Take this example of people hacking into someone else's smart phone enabled vibrating panties.

"The Internet of Things That Can Be Hacked grows daily. Lightbulbs, trucks, and fridges all have computers inside them now, and all have been hacked by someone. But at least you don’t put those inside your body.

Two years ago, someone had the good idea to put a bluetooth connection inside a vibrator, and the We-Vibe 4 Plus was born. The vibrator can connect with a smartphone app that its makers say “allows couples to keep their flame ignited – together or apart”: that is, it can be controlled remotely, while, say, making a video call.

But at the Def Con hacking conference in Las Vegas, two independent hackers from New Zealand, who go by the handles goldfisk and follower, revealed that the way the vibrator speaks with its controlling app isn’t really secure at all – making it possible to remotely seize control of the vibrator and activate it at will..."

Nyaaah, they can listen to me and check my browsing history all day long, they won't get shit out of it.  Shit, I'll tell you it now, mygnrforum, pirate bay, imdb, youtube, arsenal.com, pornhub, boxrec.com, thats about it   A list of how many RKO movies I've downloaded in the last 6 months will do someone the power of good I'm sure. (I'm being facetious, you do have a point).
