The U.S./Trump have already stated they back Juan Guaido and view him as current interim president.  Pretty sure they did it almost immediately following him being sworn in yesterday.

Yes. And you just quoted me making reference to that :)

The U.S. can and does back Guaido without being part of the Lima group.  Not sure why that would be confusing.

Im not confused. Are you confused?

P.S. You can add Maduro's reign in Venezuela to the list of failed Marxist philosophy socialist states.

Its just Socialist State not "Marxist philosophy socialist states."

Your post just seemed like a pessimistic view of US intentions.  Maybe I misunderstood it.

And is socialism not a Marxist philosophy?

A white supremacist pleaded guilty Wednesday to killing a black man with a sword as part of an attack that authorities said was intended to incite a race war in the United States.

That plan never works does it?  it feels like something a psycho comes up with when he smokes weed.  'what i'll do right, is i'll kill a darkie, that'll set em off!'...and these guys are often the ones who highlight the fact that black people are murdered in record high number across America because they are criminally inclined.

It really doesn't work! I feel bad because its a serious issue, but the US right wing concept of 'race war' kinda makes me laugh. Helter Skelter, man.

Having a pessimistic view of US intentions is always a great default position.

I don't like what were getting involved in at all.

You don't like the U.S. backing the Venezuelan resistance movement?

I think resistance movement is one thing. And a guy calling himself the new President just because he felt like it is insane. The new President has to be someone who has been elected by the people's vote. So the U.S. shouldn't be backing that guy. Eventually if Maduro resigns. That guy or someone else could lead a transition government in agreement with Congress and Supreme Court.  There is already a huge mess there. Don't add more fuel to the fire

You have one guy who was elected and has the military backing him and another guy saying the election was illegitimate and that hes the actual President and we're backing him.

They seem to be on the brink of a civil war - then you got Cheeto Benito saying all options are on the table.

I work with over a half dozen folks from Venezuela and most of the premise behind the movement is that the election was a farce.  Maduro essentially re-elected himself through election corruption and voter  fraud.

The vast majority of the country despises Maduro & his regime.  That's why millions of people took to the streets in protest, etc.

The brought that themselves the day the vote for Chavez many years ago. Later they voted Maduro. They should've known better. That new guy in power will only bring a civil war. Not to mention a new wave of refugees going all the way north. They can't have two Presidents, both of them illegal. Two wrongs doesn't make it right.

Trump knew he had to back down, because an aviation incident due to furloughed TSA would have been the end of him.  Chuck N' Nancy stuck it to the Trumpster.

Nonsense.

So a nation's population can't change their minds over the course of 20 years?    Not to mention the fact that Chavez only received about 56% of the vote when he was initially elected.  And when Chavez was elected, his administration was capitalistic and center-left.  From that point forward though, his regime was full of corruption and steadily turned Venezuela into an authoritarian dictatorship.  It was Chavez's corrupt policies/regime that changed while holding power.  Only someone completely ignorant of the situation could blame it on the Venezuelan people.

As far as them electing Maduro, I'm not sure if you understand what election fraud means.  It means that Maduro wasn't democratically elected.  He rigged the election....which is commonplace among authoritarian regimes.

And a simple Google search would enlighten you about Guaido .  He is president of the National Assembly which would be similar to the Speaker of the House here in the United States.  Obviously it's a bit more complicated than that, since Maduro's regime stripped the National Assembly of power in 2017 (In an attempt to gain even more of a stranglehold of power over Venezuela)  but as acting president of the assembly, Guaido will fill the roll of president of Venezuela until a president is democratically elected. (Aka interim president).

It's a tense situation but if the military stops backing Maduro (seems as if it's headed that way) it shouldn't lead to any sort of civil war... especially if the reports are true that Guaido will give Maduro amnesty if he steps down.   I highly doubt any sort of military intervention by anyone, let alone the U.S., will be needed.

Trumps ends government shutdown, but may be back in 3 weeks.

Now the workers are wondering when they will get paid and if this is only a small end until the next time.

Of course, Shummer had to say "Trump better watch out for the power of the Speaker of the House". Here we go again. Who has the bigger balls? Why can't they just shut the hell up and be happy that the hard workers will finally get paid.

I'm just glad that so many people and cities stepped up to help the people who were not getting paid. Many cities in Texas were helping these people by not charging them extra fees for late mortgages or rents and not turning off their utilities when they couldn't pay. Many places were giving these people food and other things they needed. It's good to see that people can still do good things when it's needed.

I think Trump should stop paying Congress to wipe those smirks off their faces.
