Alan Niven interview today: Izzy will be involved in new music and reunion

Recommended Posts

What do we know so far?

1) Izzy has been writing and recording recently with GNR.

2) He hasn't been confirmed in the new live lineup.

So it seems to me that he'll do what he has been doing lately - showing up to perform live when he feels like it, and when it suits him. This is consistent with his behaviour of the last few years. I'm absolutely delighted with that - I'd much rather have him involved in the song-writing if it was a straight choice.

Yes and no.

Izzy isn't confirm in any lineup, however I think everyone can treat is a given he will turn up in some respects either at Coachella or any warm ups or post Coachella shows (of which there is no confirmation this is happening either yet).

We don't know if he has been writing & recording with GNR, we just have words from Nivin that he thinks he has been involved in recording new stuff. The comments were what he thought, not based on any facts or how/why he thinks that. The interview does imply throughout that he is close with Slash still, so that is how he could know these things?

Hopefully you Number 1 is true though.

it was obvious from the start when Kimmel was canceled it was due to unresolved issues with the line up.

wheather or not drummers or Izzy I don't know, but it couldn't had been anything else.

Izzy writting and recording but not taking part in the tour?

That is plain silly! I would love to see that. I don't buy it. You decide to return, write, record but not go up on the stage which is the peak.

why let someone else play your songs, share the money!?

I would still put my money on Izzy and Matt in, Fortus and Frank out ages ago.

Clearly you don't understand Izzy very well. Which I'm not implying you are "just an average fan" so I don't mean any offense. But most "average" fans that are complaining about Izzy, don't really understand him. He literally walked away from Guns at their peak. Most people blame Axl, but honestly Axl is just a small piece of the larger puzzle in why Izzy walked away. He just doesn't want nor care about all the attention this stuff brings, he NEVER has. He is far more comfortable playing small venues, or just not playing at all. He obviously likes recording though. But if Axl was his BIG reason for quiting back in 1991, then why has He remained friendly with him all these years? Even deciding to play with Axl every now and then? Because Axl is not, and was NEVER the main reason why Izzy quit, plain and simple.

So logic dictates that a man that NEVER wanted this kind of attention, and quit during its peak, does not want the attention now either. He doesn't want to be interviewed, he doesn't want ANY of it other than the music. Im sure he is very happy now, and probably has peace. He also has friendships with EVERY member of the band (except for adler). So what does he have to gain by coming back full time? Money? I don't think that's ever been his driving force. He IS coming back for the music. To jam with these guys, create new music, etc. But he doesn't need to go play 3 hour shows in front of 100,000 people. He clearly would rather play a couple of songs here and there, when he wants. No major commitment, just for fun. That's Izzy's style.

Clearly I don't know the man, but his behavior has been the same since he quit guns. If you doubt me, look at VR. He was there when that band started, he was into writing, creating, and jamming. But as soon as things got serious, he was out. Some musicians are just that way, I know a few personally.

So why does it seem so suprising that Izzy would not want to be a full time memeber? As long as he can jam, write, record, and play when HE wants to, he is happy. I think, as fans, we have to accept that. If he wanted to be a full time member of this reunion, he would be. Bottom line.

no offense, but do you know Izzy personally?

Izzy walked away solely because of Axl, period!

Anyone who was a fan back in the day shall know that much.

You can't accuse someone else with "Do you know Izzy Personally" than state something about Izzy like it's 100% fact. I'm sure part of the reason Izzy left was Axl, part of it was the drugs in the band at the time and GN'R becoming bigger than he thought they should be. Remember when he was apart of the "Project" he wanted to do a Tour of clubs in a van with him and Duff covering the vocals. Once Scott joined and guys wanting it to be a bigger thing, Izzy was out the door. So, no, not all Axl.

Izzy was out the door again because he could see similar lead singer behaviour, the kind that put him off in the first place. He said as much in interviews...

I think Axl is probably a changed man at this point, a lot easier to work with and a lot happier in himself. I think we may just get Izzy but he's just dipping a toe at this point. When he sees there's no sign of sharks he'll jump in...

Axl,

I implore you to read this. First and foremost, I thank you in advance for taking the time to read this.

I believe there are MANY misconceptions, false-truths, and resentmrent causing issues that continue to fester in Our relationship. I'd love the opportunity to clear these up.

The sale of Big FD to Sanctuary......

Ax, I swear on my kids lives, when I was first propositioned by Merck, I immeadiately called Sharon. She told me to fly to England and meet with Rod Smallwood, Merck, and Andy Taylor. Furthermore, and most importantly, she definitavely "ORDERED" me NOT to tlk to you about it. She wanted me to ascertain the strength of the company, which at the time was magnanimous.

After my fact finding mission, I flew to Arizona to meet with Sharon and Elliot. They concluded that at this point in your career, you needed a powerhouse company with unlimited power and resources to help guide your career. Again, I was given the missive to "surprise " you with this information, as Sharon felt you would be PROUD that I was willing to give up Big FD to further enhance YOUR career. Ax, check with Elliot..if he denies this, he's flat out lying...I swear on my kids lives.

&nb sp; Merck...where do I start here....He flat out fucked me and was a vicious Cancer that intentionally created decietful lies to muddy the waters of our once inseperable brotherhood. I will accept culpability for the fact that for the first time in my life, I wasn't acting in a resposible manner, as far as my responsibilities in guiding your life's path. For this, I can only eternally apologize. I was SO fucked up in the head at that time. I was suicidal over mising my kids, and didn't know how to sufficiently handle the pain. Oh...the $10k a month that Sanctuary claims THEY were paying Sharon, was MY fucking money. They took HALF of my paycheck every month...and paid Sharon..that was a huge hit for me to take, but I was trying to hold onto yours, and mines relationhip!!!

Axl, I'm watching your career with great frustration. I know that the only reason Irving is working with you is to induce you in the future to do THE GREAT RE-UNION TOUR. Give me a fucking break....I KNOW that is never going to happen, and wish people wouldd just fucking leave you alone on this issue. Andy Gould...C'mon..the guys a buffoon. He's a semi-funtioning alcoholic, who doesn't put YOUR needs in first place.

Ax, This is hard for me to write. I know you abhor this, but the fact is I LOVE YOU with all my Heart!!..I have watched others try and work with you, and whilst quoting an Eminem song, "They don't know you like I do Man".

Al of the so called industry types, which I have always had disdain for,

Clammoring around incompetently handling your carrer.

The biggest difference, is that know one is taking the time to properly ascertain your vision, and allow you the support and guidance that you deserve. No one that I'm aware of has the bond and ability to correctly adapt your conceptualizations, and implement YOUR ideas, as opposed to pushing their own self-effacing needs and desires. Ax, you know that when my heads right, I'm the BEST at knowing how to protect, market, conceptualize, and most impotantly put my own personal needs or injecting "MY VISION"..give me a fucking break..You don't need someone to GUIDE you..You're the most intelligent, misunderstood individual, I've EVER had the pleasure of working with. You need a facilitator of your dreams. Someone who is humble, loyal, as has no hidden agendas. Guess what bro..THAT'S ME!!

I implore you to find the time to meet with me. You will see for yourself...Dougie is back bigger, better and stronger than EVER!!

I will be in LA May 8th-the 10th. I implore you to meet with me..I will extend my trip as long as you need me to. I will sit and answer any and every question truthfully and completly. I can come in early, or stay later..You tell me when YOU are available...I'll be there.

I have a brilliant plan to make you between 10-20 million dollars a year, wehter you tour or not. It's called the "ROSE FESTIVAL". If you decide to tour with Van Halen, I could do the pre-production and the first show, but need to get back to Hawaii for my wedding.

The festival would start in Australia in January 2010. The site would be a massive field, holding 250-500 thousand people. It's a two day event, with 3 stages. We'd have a metal day the first day. We would approach Metallica to close the first night. We would have 60 bands including GNR over the course of 2 days. The beauty is you'd be doing 2 shows a wee k, and you OWN the festival in perpituity. You would have to do the initial tour, but after that, you stay home and tellme the bands you want, sit back and collect the money...no longer would you need Irving, or anyone else. I'm willing to move back to LA to be at CAA everyday to find the right sponsors, bands, and fly to EVERY location, ensuring a safe environment. The beauty is instead od the promoter making all the money, you OWN the event. You get paid on parking, all beverages, t-shirt sales from EVERY band on the bill, as well as a lion's share of the sponsorship money. Ax, you know me..if I set my mind on something..I am the BEST at allowing you your vision, and concurrently protecting you.

I would like to set up a charitable foundation under YOUR NAME, where $2 from every ticket sold goes towards feeding the HUNGRY..imgine if we can get McDonalds to mach us happy-meal for happy meal. You'd personally be responsible for feeding 500,00-1 million people evertime we haVE A show.

The press would be HUGE!!!!

I would need to be in LA while you are doing the Van Halen tour, as it's imperative to be at CAA everyday to ensure your vision is met.

I have many other ideas tha I'd love to share with you, including a video idea for "If The World"..Using stock footage, build a montage wth FREE stock footage...Bernie Madoff, the founder of Countrywide..the global stock markets crahing..people jumpig off buidings after losing ther personal wealth, the war in Iraq, the homeless all over the world..etc..you wouldn't need to be in the video at all if you choose not to. I'd over see the production of the video in LA and send you a rough copy FED-EX everyday, so it is YOUR vision.

Bottom line, please forgive me for not being ther...Bridget has given me aa new lease on life, and I've NEVER been this happy and strong. I weigh 158 pounds, wearing a size 30 jean, eomtionally and physically stronger than I've ever been. I'm up tothe task and KNOW without an hesitation that I can protect yo u and set you up financially for the rest of your life.

Thank you SO much for taking the time to hear me out, and if you decide NOT to work with me, I respect that decision. I will ALWAYS be ther for you, and YOU decide what I deserve to make for my efforts. I hope you will at least give me an opportunity to sit with you, to allow us the opportuniy to put some resolve to our relationship. Either way, we both need to get on with our lives, and have closure one way or another.

Beta knows how to reach me..feel free to write or call me whenever you feel up to it.

Your Friend,

Doug Goldstein

It was him trying to get back in with Axl. Email made its way to Beta, Axl apparently wasn't happy about Beta being friendly with Goldstein, email somehow got leaked out.

He did an interview with Mitch Lafon back in March: http://www.mygnrforum.com/index.php?/topic/211149-doug-goldstein-interview-with-mitch-lafon/

How could an email like that get leaked? Axl leaked it or asked Beta to leak it as an apology to him?

Dunno; I think it first got out at GNREvo via a user called Retribution: http://www.gnrevolution.com/viewtopic.php?pid=163485#p163485, around February 2010. He claimed Beta was kicked out because of the incident, then let back in. Weird that Goldstein would confirm it was real, could have easily denied it. There was also allegedly an email leak the following February that was never proven.

if this is all accurate, why did susan say, 'never say never' with regards to izzy being in the band? It sounded to me like she knew that he wasn't a part of it.

To me it sounded like she was implying she knows he's in. "Never say never" as in don't say he'll never play with GNR
Yeah, someone said: No Izzy? And she responded: No, never say never

Izzy will play with them when he feels the time is right. If it's true they are working on new material then we will hear him on whatever form they release it on. Him playing a few shows with them here and there is fine.

If Izzy comes in for the record then it's on.

And probably lyrics wise. Axl took the time writing words for Chinese bc of Duff, Slash and Stephanie.

Now everything is fine, and fuck that bitch. Full time revenge.

Having other lyric writers like Izzy and Duff also helps. so you have Axl's pov and Izzy to counter balance it, and Duff seems like he has more to say now. Izzy definitely can change the direction of the album. If they start writing for real it could be a whole new record.

I think though Niven is refering to Izzy wtiting with Duff. If Slash is getting involved then that is huge. Then if Axl is joining in then that is mind blowing.

Maybe all that could happen on a smaller scale inside what is already happening.

It kinda makes more sense for Izzy to help out in the studio with writing tunes. That's his main thing in music it seems. I think he was always not too fussed about shit not long after it happened. Just waited for the right moment when the weather is clear. No shitstorms for at least a short while to do something constructive together.

So why does it seem so suprising that Izzy would not want to be a full time memeber? As long as he can jam, write, record, and play when HE wants to, he is happy. I think, as fans, we have to accept that. If he wanted to be a full time member of this reunion, he would be. Bottom line.

Thank you!

Finally someone posting WHY he went out the door once they chose to recruite Scott and WHY he proposed to the band to share vocals instead of picking another lead vocalist.

he said so many times, as did Slash, why he has issues with lead singers, but 47 GNR members later, there are still so who are deaf and blind but nonetheless, start the post with 'you don't know very well...'.

just can't help fans from'99 onwards.

If you read my ENTIRE post you would have read that I wasn't implying anything towards you. I also said that I was not trying to offend. But clearly you got your panties twisted. Which since you are a newbie around here, I can understand the confusion. But to claim I've only been a fan since 99 is laughable. You are the rookie around these parts chief, so why don't you sit down, take a few notes, and calm down. Especially to those that clearly said "im not trying to offend you" because I wasnt, I was actually refering more to comments I've read on face book and other non gnr sites. You just made a point that was similiar.
