GnR b-sides, Soundtrack, and other rare officially released songs

Recommended Posts

Looking to make a compilation of all rare officially released songs, and hoping you all can help me complete my list.

Live in the Jungle ep

Shadow of Your Love (two versions)

Knockin on Heaven's Door (DOT soundtrack version) question: Does Adler play drums on this?

Knockin on Heavens Door (Freddy Murcury tribute)

Civil War (nobody's Child mix)

Dont Cry Demo

Live and Let Die (live)

You're Crazy (alt acoustic version)

Coma (live)

Sympathy for the Devil

Oh My God

Sweet Child O Mine (big daddy version)

What am I missing? And where can I find it? Hopefully with the reunion happening they revisit the old catalog and give these songs a proper home. Thanks for all your help!

It's Matt playing on the DOT version of Knockin'. The drums are mixed a bit differently.

I still don't think I've ever heard that version. Off to YouTube I go.

Here's Mr. Browstone with different mix appeared on the ISE single as a b-side

I absolutely LOVE the mix on that. I would kill to hear the rest of AFD mixed like that.

Thanks for the responses,

after doing some more research, Yesterdays (live) and Knockin on Heavens Door (Freddy Murcury tribute) were both on Live Era

IIRC,  Civil War (nobody's Child mix) was a rougher mix than the album version. Maybe someone here can clarify.

Its So Easy, (censored, alt vocal take) I see this mentioned, does it exist?

I know for a fact that the censored It's So Easy exist! I heard it on YouTube a couple of years ago.

The only difference I can remember is that instead of "fuck off" Axl sings "Piss Off" or something like that!

I tried to find it again but I can't, it was a cool version though so if you find it please tell ;)

Isn't there 3 versions of Shadow of your Love?

The Fake live version,

Studio version (may be the same as the fake live version, without the crowd noise)

version with "wake up, time to die" at the beginning.

you may have them listed, but this is how I know them

And while we are at it, are there any interesting Radio edits out there that are worth listening or are they mostly just cut for time and swearing?

- Ain't going down from the pinball machine should be added to the list, I missed that.

- The fake crowd noise versions of the LLAS sessions are exactly the same as the ones without crowd noise, but only the fake ones were officially released.

So, this is the list so far :

1.  Ain't Going Down ( pinball machine )

2.  It's So Easy ( live at the Marquee )

3.  Knockin' On Heaven's Door (live at the Marquee)

4.  Whole Lotta Rosie (live at the Marquee)

5.  Knockin on Heaven's Door (Days Of Thunder mix)

6.  Knockin on Heavens Door ( live at Freddy Murcury tribute) -> included on live era

7.  Shadow of Your Love (LLAS sessions)

8.  Shadow of Your Love (Sound City sessions)

9.  Mr Brownstone (alt mix)

10. Civil War (nobody's Child mix)

11. Dont Cry Demo

11. Live and Let Die (live at Wembley)

12. You're Crazy (alt acoustic version)

13. Yesterdays (live in Las Vegas) -> included on live era

14. Coma (live in Omaha) -> included on live era

15. Sympathy for the Devil (Interview With The Vampire soundtrack ) -> included on greatest hits

16. Oh My God (End Of Days soundtrack)

17. Sweet Child O Mine (big daddy end titles version)

Now, if we leave out the Live Era and GH stuff, as well as the two songs post '99, we get an 11-track cd.  Some songs are repeated though.

Anything missing that we haven't thought of ?

Why are you still including a so-called alternati e mix of Civil War? It's the exact same mix.

Plus the Yesterdays and KOHD live versions, while technically on Live Era,  do differ on their single iterations.

- The single version of the live KOHD is the "raw"version, as in the same mix as the video releases of the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert. Basically it's an audio rip of the video concert (Metallica did the same when they released the set they performed that day as  three track single).

The Live Era version has notably been remixed: they corrected the noise when Axl hit his mike stand while running, they greatly upmixed the crowd mics.

On both Yesterdays and KOHD, the mastering on Live Era is so brickwalled there are instances of audible distortion.

There's also Stuck Inside, Back In The Saddle and Love Is A Bitchslap from Bach's Angel Down, although that's just Axl, not GNR (although going by that logic, you could say the same thing about Chinese Democracy).
