I watched the Outlaw episode when it was on during it's original run last year. I thought it was awesome.

One of the best things they've done in awhile. It gave me a much greater appreciation for Kris Kristofferson. I haven't caught the whole series but it's interesting looking back on that era of country and how mainstream it was, still scrutinized by many-- But without being hokey. It was authentic, fucking heartfelt, well crafted and produced. This mainstream stuff today, is like parody party music. Makes Cletus T. Judd look modest.

The zenith had to be the 90's, but even then it was getting goofy-- guys trying to make wacky music videos for airtime.

Anybody been watching the Ken Burns Country Music series on pbs?

Yeah I saw all of it when they first broadcast it, and a few of them on a second go round. I thought it was really great. I especially liked the first few episodes- earliest roots up thru Hanks death. The end of the episode where hank dies, and the narrator described it, and they just showed a b&w shot of a road going into the woods in a fog, was just awesome... gave me goosebumps.
