Natural Born Killers (1994)  Probably the best American film of the 90s.  Era defining.  Underrated, too much hype about the content and not enough respect for its superior cinematic qualities.

Yeah it is. Absolute classic. Love how it looks. The whole thing is a controlled chaos. The whole prison scene, from the interview to the riot to the breakout, it's crazy. Stone is always going for something in his films but I think this is the one where he really nails it. And Woody, role of a lifetime for my boy.

The Bible: In the Beginning... (1966)

Epic based on The Book of Genesis starring/directed by John Huston, Ava Gardner - those well known reprobates O'Toole and Harris make an appearance also. Well acted, tasteful and glorious aesthetically (they really don't make films like that now, do they?). 4/5

Best film of the 90's is a big stretch but it is a good take on America and its obsession with violence.

Crazy part is its supposed to be critical but we still think its awesome  Inspiration in allot of crimes including Columbine who named their plan 'NBK'

I've seen that, its a cracker innit?  John Huston is a favourite of mine, directors-wise, a true American original rather like John Ford.

I'm into my sword-and-sandal epics right now.

They just do not produce films like that, with zillions of extras and set pieces in exotic locations; now they'd digital it all in and it would look naff. It is the same with westerns.

Those things were a fuckin' nightmare to co-ordinate y'know, all that Cecil B DeMille stuff.  But the look of it is fantastic, the digital era, aside from from fakeness of it, gives a general general biege tone to the screen.  In technicolour its really glorious.  The Ten Commandments, Ben Hur, Spartacus, Cleopatra, The Robe.  I suppose Julius Ceasar with Brando and Sir John Gielgud counts?  I believe Leone did one, didn't he, Collosus of Rhodes.

Westerns, again, its to do with the richness of colour afforded by proper film stock.

The Story of Joseph and His Brethren (1961)

Italian Biblical cheapo that would be Belinda Lee's final film before she suffered her fatal car accident, directed by the wonderfully named Irving Rapper, of Bette Davis (e.g. Now, Voyager) fame. Despite the ropey budget design it is a well acted piece. 3/5.

The Ten Commandments (1956).

I hadn't seen this in a number of years. They're a fickle lot those Israelites: ten plagues against the Egyptians, deliverance from bondage, then the pillar of fire and parting of the Red Sea, and then they all start doubting God/Moses, worshiping ''idols'' and having what can only be described as a sort of ''faux Roman orgy'', all because Moses spends ''a bit too long up Mount Sinai''.

These 1950s epics all have unbelievably beautiful women - even the down trodden slaves - in roles, people like Debra Paget, Jean Simmons and Deborah Kerr; all the men are in the buff, sort of ''oiled'' and look like they've been sunning it up at Magaluf too long - I understand the tanned bit but why are they so oily? And poor Yul Brynner: chap couldn't grow his hair, type-casted into shaven headed oriental villainy that he is!

Nahh, I'm taking the piss of course. Absolute masterpiece. Some of the greatest special effects of all time. Heston is Moses. Glorious. 5/5

Gideon and Samson (1965)

Italian z-movie made on a budget of about one lira. Faintly ridiculous by the fact that Gideon is played by somebody who resembles and acts like Tuco from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (it isn't him - I checked)! 1/5.

40 days and 40 nights, must've started getting on their wick a bit!  And what with Edward  G Robinson on the earhole, there's only so much an honest Israelite can take   And there were some cracking birds knocking around that scene, a good ol' Roman orgy must've seemed just the ticket after all them years in bondage.

Some beautiful scenes in that film, like the old git standing up when Vincent Price buggers off with Joshuas bird...'we are not animals, we are men, made in the image of God!', i never wanted to be a Jew so much in all my life, save for when i listen to Lenny Bruce

On topic:

Performance (1970) Always thought it was a bit...whats the word?  Silly.  This refreshing of it has kind of altered my opinion a bit.

They do weird spasticated dances, wear colourful apparel  and drink wine from golden goblets and it is insinuated that this is what happens when a ''people worship false gods and become a bit of debauched'', but you cannot see any bona fide hanky panky because of the Hays codes. It is an insinuation.

One can convert to Judaism. Sammy Davis Jr and Liz Taylor were such. I think that guy in Ali's entourage, Bundini, was also? Admittedly the circumcision can put a few people off!

When they're running around with birds of 'rich apparel' under their arms and over their shoulders it's clear what they're getting at

Jaws of Satan

Love the Ten Commandments movie.

My mom went to Catholic school in the 60's and the nuns took the classes to see this movie in the theatre. Obviously, it must have been re-released in the 60's again.

Cool movie. Makes you really want to believe there is a God who's all powerful and takes care of all your enemies.

Honestly, if I was Moses I think he could have done more for the Jewish slaves if he pretended to be Egyptian, but I guess his belief in God made him fuss up.

I guess it ended okay in the end or did it? Jews were still persecuted for most of the years after that.

Samson and Delilah (1949)

If Delilah was Hedy Lamarr I'm not sure I could resist her deceitful charms either: ''she could cut my hair any day of the week'' haha. 5/5.

The Story of Ruth (1960)

This was a great film. 5/5

David and Bathsheba (1951)

Bit plodding in parts but decent. Gregory Peck there. 3/5

There’s a swell documentary about Hedy Lamarr doing the rounds. She co-invented the technology wifi is built on *and* performed the first simulated onscreen female orgasam in a non pornographic film.

I've been reading about her. Apparently she invented some radio guidance system for torpedoes! What an interesting life.

Hitler and Mussolini were both guests at her and her first husband’s home. Despite their Jewish heritage. Crazy, fascinating life.

Good call, I need to watch this again it's been awhile.

I watched The Great Outdoors recently that also had John Candy, he's funnier now than I remember him being for some reason.

Yeah, John Candy is cool. Uncle Buck was great. He's one of those actors that is very likable like Joe Pesci, Rodney Dangerfield, Danny Devito etc

Who's Harry Crumb? is a pretty funny kinda forgotten movie of his.
