I don't know anything about Perla but she is not an addict, is she? So I don't understand why you guys say she is so wild and he is not anymore? Whatever drove them apart I don't think it was Slash becoming sober. 

My armchair psychology nerve tells me that Perla was done with him cheating on her. So finally they separated and Slash went off to find Meegan. Something like that 

I wonder if Meegan realises that Slash uses the same pictures when he's posting about Axl as he does when he's posting loving messages about her? As well as the redhead thing 

Perla was very much involved in managing Slash's career. Maybe he got sick of her meddling in his bands business. It does seem he cheated on her though, and wonder if he was cheating on her with Meegan whilst he was still going home to Perla.

Megan lived with her mom and younger brother in a nearby suburb and she was really exotic-looking, a heavy-chested, bubbly, sweet girl. I began to settle into a cozy little relationship with her, and was getting used to the routine of jamming however long by day and hanging out with her all night. And that is when Axl showed up, which changed the dynamic immediately.

My room was at the front of the apartment, separated from Axl’s by our living room and a long railroad-style hallway. So I went down there to see what was going on; I found our security guard Earl, Tom Mayhew, Steve, and Axl hanging out with two happy-go-lucky Midwestern girls that they’d brought back. We all hung out, and as it got later, it was suggested that the girls have sex with all of us. They were willing to blow everyone in the room, which seemed reasonable to me, but they didn’t want to fuck us. For whatever reason, that really pissed Axl off. The girls had a very intelligent rationale for their point of view, but Axl begged to differ. This debate continued for a moment, and it was pretty relaxed, but suddenly Axl exploded. He threw them out with such rage it was shocking. The way it went down was completely unnecessary. The coup de grâce was that one of the girls’ dads was a prominent officer with the Chicago police, or so I was told. Later that morning I packed up my stuff and flew back to L.A. A few days later, I had Megan move out and join me.

She came over later with a bag of clean rigs, and before I knew it, before Axl even got home, and before Megan and Karen returned from their tour of Melrose and Beverly Hills, I was back on smack with a vengeance again. Megan was one of those chicks who dated the wrong guy and got dragged through the mill with me. She was pretty innocent; she might have thought she’d fallen in love, but I don’t think she had any idea of what she’d gotten into or what was going on with me once we returned to L.A. She’d met me when I was a complete drunk; and, as I’ve mentioned, to the naked eye, a clever heroin addict doesn’t act that much different, unless you count their drinks. Megan was so innocent that she didn’t pick up on the fact that I’d suddenly stopped consuming a half gallon of vodka per day, though, if anything, I was acting just as drunk— if not more so. We continued a very sweet, very twisted, almost 1950s kind of relationship. She would tend to the house, then head to bed at ten or eleven p.m. and I’d stay up all night, downstairs in the living room, shooting up every few hours in the black bathroom. Some nights I’d write songs on the couch, some nights I’d just stare at the snakes. Before I noticed, it would be morning and Megan was up and we’d hang out and have a great time until I got tired. She never asked questions and we got along that way for a while, very happily. We had pet names for everything. Everything to her was either “cute” or “sweet,” and I was usually “sweetie.” Looking back on it, Megan sounded a lot like Jennifer Tilly. Megan was also, as I mentioned, really domestic. She fixed the place up, especially the kitchen, and made it all entirely livable. She liked to have people over for dinner, if the occasion presented itself. I remember that I had Mark Mansfield come by once, more to get high and catch up than have any kind of meal, but Megan made us a feast: she served us some variety of chicken with several side dishes, garlic bread, and a nice salad, all served on place mats— the whole thing. She was really pleased, and didn’t seem to notice at all how dark a state both Mark and I were in. We were so stoned that we just kind of played with the food. It didn’t matter; at the end of the night, Megan told me that she thought Mark was charming. Megan was interesting in other ways: more often than not, rather than screw, she liked to just jerk me off and watch it… I guess we did have a pretty strange relationship.

I bought a bunch of guns: a shotgun, a .38 Special, a .44 Magnum, and a few revolvers. I used to keep my .38 in the back of my pants, and after Megan went to sleep, and after I’d shot up enough coke and heroin, I’d walk around the house thinking about things while watching the little hallucinatory figures that started to pop up in the corners of my vision. I’d see them dive and roll off the top of the curtain rods or run along the baseboards in my peripheral vision, but every time I tried to look at them head-on, they’d disappear. Around then I stopped talking to everyone I knew and started doing a great deal of drawing. Throughout my life, my drawings have always reflected what I was into at the time. During this period, I drew nothing but dinosaurs and assorted graphic designs and logos. I should have been drawing the little demon men that I could never quite see or seem to capture on film— believe me, I tried. As soon as I started to speedball regularly, those little guys were everywhere. They were small, wiry, translucent characters that I saw from afar until eventually they’d crawl up my jacket whenever I got high. I wanted to get to know them in a way; as I lay on the floor, waiting for my heart rate to relax, I’d watch the little Cirque du Soleil show that those guys would put on all over the room. I often thought about waking Megan up so that she could check it out. I even took pictures of them in the mirror when I found them perched on my shoulder and in my hair. I started to talk about them and see them so clearly that I even freaked out my drug dealer. On the rare occasion when I’d leave the house to score my drugs, I’d usually shoot up right away at his place and then start seeing those little guys crawling up my arm. “Hey, do you see that?” I’d ask, extending my arm. “You see that little guy, right? He’s right there.” My dealer would just stare at me expressionless. This guy was a drug dealer who was pretty used to strange junkie behavior. “You’d better go, man,” he’d say. “You’re way too out there. You should go home.” Apparently I was bad for business. One night I was patrolling the house with my shotgun and came down the bedroom stairs into the living room. Then I went up the stairs to the bedroom landing and up to the loft, where Megan was asleep. As I got up there, the gun went off and blasted through the ceiling opposite the loft. Megan didn’t even wake up, which is amazing. I was still awake when the fire trucks came. I was lying there pretty rattled as I heard the sirens. I just lay still and thought, “Oh, boy.” My house was cut into a steep hill, so the small, square, second-floor bedroom window was actually just above street level. I heard the commotion and figured someone was coming for me, so I tucked my .45 in the back of my pants and ran upstairs to the window, pulled the shade aside, and stared at the firemen preparing to break down my door. I asked them what the problem was and they told me that my fire alarm had been ringing for thirty minutes. I averted that situation; I assured them that there was no fire, and Megan was none the wiser. Another time that she might have caught on to my nocturnal activities but didn’t was the morning that she woke me up on the couch in the living room. Apparently I’d nodded out with the needle right there next to me. “Sweetie,” she said. “I think the cat is playing with something.” I looked down to see one of my cats smacking my needle around like it was a mouse.

She and I checked in to a villa on Kauai, and the moment we got there, I started the detoxing process. I was feverish, sweaty, jittery, and altogether miserable. I told Megan that I had the flu and she believed me; she was happy enough to go shopping and sightsee on her own. I didn’t expect this kick to be as bad as it was, because I thought I’d gotten through the worst of it back in Tucson. Well… I hadn’t; it wasn’t easy at all. I hoped that I could drink it off, but I couldn’t: everything tasted bad and everything felt bad. The symptoms were way more violent than usual: the dry heaves, the stomach cramps, the profuse sweating, the anxiety, and the creepy-crawling sensations were such horrible unpleasant company. I couldn’t watch TV, I couldn’t relax, I couldn’t eat, I couldn’t sleep. I’m sure Megan purposely stayed away most of the time. Suffice to say, I was miserable. I was in that state for a week or so while Megan and I just chilled in Kauai. The thing is, for as much effort as I’d put into getting drugs to feed my habit, every time I’d kicked, I never invested the necessary time to obtain the appropriate medicine to ease the process. It always seemed like a pain in the ass to get a bunch of prescriptions from my doctor; it always seemed like too much planning before the day that I decided to do it. Besides, I always have to do everything the hard way, so it had always been cold turkey for me. After a week I got to the point where I could move around and I finally started feeling better. I could see that I was almost out of the woods; and I started to make plans with Megan to do the usual things tourists do in Hawaii.

Call me what you will, but that vacation took a one-eighty degree turn for the better once I got my meds. Megan and I started doing stuff, we went shopping, I rented a Jeep, and we toured some of the sights. From Hawaii, Megan and I flew out to Chicago to spend Thanksgiving with her mother, whom I was meeting for the first time. I finished the last of my smack in the hotel in Hawaii, and by the time we got to Chicago, I was starting to experience the typical junkie itchy twitchy withdrawal. I only knew a few people in Chicago, and I ran into one of them at the Smart Bar our first night there. This guy was one of the engineers who’d set up our rehearsal rig, and though he didn’t have a line on heroin, he always had tons of coke, so he hooked me up with a pile of it. When I got back to Megan’s mother’s house, I started shooting it in an effort to get myself straight. Megan had no idea, but I could tell that her mom knew that something wasn’t quite right with me; I’m just not sure whether she knew exactly what it was. It was tough to keep my whole scene under wraps that holiday season because she and her mom lived in pretty close quarters. Their bedrooms were divided by a shared closet; so if the sliding doors on both sides were open, you could walk from one room into the other. At night, when I was watching TV and shooting coke after Megan fell asleep, I’d start tripping out, convinced that her mom was watching me from the other side of that weird divider. This went on for a few nights. I don’t know what I was thinking; I was shooting coke in her twin bed, between Megan’s body and the wall. It was ridiculous.

Before I knew it Christmas was around the corner and Megan started planning a lavish party: she was way into the decorations, she bought a fondue maker, and she invited all of our friends to her winter wonderland. It was the most bizarre thing I had been involved with for a long time, and the fact that I was straight made that feeling pretty hard to ignore. The day before the party, she came home with about $ 400 worth of useless garbage that she’d bought at the market to decorate the house. That was my breaking point. I watched her decorate our place, thinking all the while, I don’t even know who the fuck you are. We had the Christmas party, we had our friends over; and as soon as they’d gone, I set about telling Megan that she had to go as well. It wasn’t cool, and it was pretty explicit; I flipped on her for going to the market but that wasn’t the real issue: I was done with her, cut-and-dried, and I needed her to vacate the premises as soon as possible. It didn’t matter to me how she’d gotten there, it just had to stop. It had to end immediately. It went horribly: I looked her in the eye and said, “Go away.” And she went… her friend Karen, who hated me anyway, showed up and packed her up. Looking back, once I was sober, I didn’t see Megan the same way at all. She was sweet, she was fine… but she was just there. Suddenly she was like a piece of furniture that I didn’t remember buying and I began to ask myself, each and every day, what we had in common. With nothing to cloud my vision, it felt like she was a stranger. I also didn’t have time for the time-consuming responsibilities and distractions of a relationship, so it wasn’t her so much as it was me. I was getting back to my old self; I was getting into work mode. All I kept thinking when I looked at her was, What are you doing here? You’ve got to go. I’ve got shit to do. We’ve got a fucking record to make. I believe I said as much to her. I treated her harshly, especially for me, because that’s not my style. But I just couldn’t take it anymore, and that’s the last that I ever saw of her.

Lol I don't think Axl had just one shirt, it looks to me this is part of a uniform for the band.

I didn't know he was part of a school band, lol, or maybe i forgot....?? But that's amazing. Shows his interest in music goes really far back!

I don't think he made her look like an idiot in his book. All the time he was saying it was mostly him the problem... that he was a drugaddict and alcoholic who was just pretending to be a normal person and have a normal girlfriend but at some point he figured out he was just faking it because all he cared about was drugs and booze.

He says she seemed to not realize what was going on with him but that's his perception. Maybe SHE KNEW and just decided to ignore it, for whatever reasons. She was also 19 years old so I don't think we can blame her for being naive about those things. Maybe she wasn't too naive, who knows.... maybe she was in love with him and sometimes women in love are blinded to the negative side of their partners.

As for why she's back with him.... well, why is he back with her??.... People change, people mature and maybe she was still in love with him and he discovered a new Meegan. Can't compare a 19 years old girl to a 45 years old woman. We all evolve (or most of us), get life experience, chill about other things.... I really don't see something bad with the couple, they are adult nows so if they have decided to give their love a second chance, there must be a reason for that.

I think I get what you're saying is something like "who are we to judge if they come back together or not" and "people can mature and maybe everything is different between them today". I agree with that, I'm not judging on what two grown-up people are doing. 

Still, the way Slash describes Megan in his book sounds downright humiliating, belittling and overstepping personal lines for me. The whole description of Megan being domestic and decorating, cooking etc. is not at all respectful. He puts her in a light of a somewhat rediculous housewife who plays a role nobody wants her to, living in her own kind of dreamland, staying ignorant, naive and oblivious of the drug abuse and cheating going on. Even though he says he was being a dick to her his description paints her in a really stupid, moron-like prudish dreamy girl way. I do think that is how Slash felt at the time and probably even today when looking back at the time. 

So no, I personally don't understand how someone would want to hook up again after being described like that in a book.

@Ratam you're so sweet for even mentioning my name thank you girl (i swear I had nothing nothing to do with this post it's a random act of kindness from Ratam and I Appreciate her post) Anyhow she was i think  talking about the previous disagreement .  however i've moved on, every body  move on it's alright

I've read it again and it doesn't sound humiliating to me... I don't know... maybe it's because I'm not an English native speaker?

Why doing domestic things is disrespectful? We all have to do them, unless you are rich and have maids, or you are a patriarchal male who need women doing everything for him.

The domestic tasks are not humiliating per se, in my opinion, they suck when you have to do them for everybody else who lives in your house. That's sort of... humiliating. She probably did all that for Slash and I don't understand why he was complaining about it, but all in all, it sounds to me more like a description of what she was doing while she was with him.

I fail to see how a person is stupid for not getting involved into drugs and alcohol or not knowing about those things.....

She was 19 years old and just like Erin, she was a girl from a different background than guys like Axl and Slash and the strippers they were used to be around. Those women, at 19 years old, had lived the life of a 40 years old woman. That doesnt make them smarter or better or whatever.

In my opinion there was nothing wrong with Meegan, except that she got involved with a guy that had nothing to do with her back then. A drugaddict and she was not. Usually those things clash in a couple.... but is she a moron for not being a drugaddict or not knowing or being an expert in fucking needles, cocaine and heroin effects?, recognize that someone is high??

Why doing domestic things is disrespectful? We all have to do them, unless you are rich and have maids, or you are a patriarchal male who need women doing everything for him.

The domestic tasks are not humiliating per se, in my opinion, they suck when you have to do them for everybody else who lives in your house. That's sort of... humiliating. She probably did all that for Slash and I don't understand why he was complaining about it, but all in all, it sounds to me more like a description of what she was doing while she was with him.

I fail to see how a person is stupid for not getting involved into drugs and alcohol or not knowing about those things.....

She was 19 years old and just like Erin, she was a girl from a different background than guys like Axl and Slash and the strippers they were used to be around. Those women, at 19 years old, had lived the life of a 40 years old woman. That doesnt make them smarter or better or whatever.

In my opinion there was nothing wrong with Meegan, except that she got involved with a guy that had nothing to do with her back then. A drugaddict and she was not. Usually those things clash in a couple.... but is she a moron for not being a drugaddict or not knowing or being an expert in fucking needles, cocaine and heroin effects?, recognize that someone is high??

Exactly, @killuridols there was nothing wrong with Megan not getting involved with drugs or the RnR lifestyle in general. There also is nothing wrong at all with domestic things or things being considered feminine, not at all. And there is nothing wrong with doing things for love, out of youth and trying to make a relationship work with whatever means you might have or not.

What I'm saying is his description sounds disrespectful and down-putting to me. Not the things she was doing. Really wanna get this thing across.

As I'm not an native english speaker either, maybe we should ask some of them?

Maybe it's just interpretations... To me, the whole description makes him look worse than it makes her look stupid or too naive.

It's like... when I read it I can't stop saying to myself "you can't be complaining because she was a good girl, or because she didnt know about drugs... wtf is wrong with you, asshole??" And it shows that probably most people he knew were fucked up drugaddicts like him, instead of normal healthy people with regular lives, and somehow he was bothered by a normal person.

What I got out of those excerpts was that he found Meegan interesting while he was on drugs but when he clear-headed, he didn't have much feelings for her and she essentially was in his way. Slash found they had absolutely nothing in common so the relationship ended.

Yeah right. It has the same effect on me. Funny how different interpretations of the tone of a writing can still go to the same internal reactions with the reader. Lol

Does Slash's book have a lot of stories about Axl being that obnoxious and ridiculous asshole?  This short story about the two happy go-lucky midwestern girls, Slash, Axl and some other guys and Axl not being happy with what the girls were ready to offer sexually. Man, Axl has no fucking notion of consent at all, has he? There is nothing for him to want and insist and he wouldn't even get it.

Slash book is a rollercoaster of positive and negative feelings and emotions from Slash about Axl

I love the book! It keeps you trapped until the end because you want to know what he really thinks about Axl or how he's felt about the different moments of the band. I remember the incident with the straight jacket, haha.

Axl is like that yeah, like a baby, and he hasn't changed a bit about that. I have that information
