Popular Post Lumikki
On 18.7.2017 at 7:46 PM, Blackstar said: I found @Lumikki's post (thanks to @Frey's index) about Axl's depression crisis. Most of the pics are gone, but I guess it doesn't matter, as they were in German and Lumikki translated the important parts for us Uuurrrgh, it's fucking photobucket. That's why the images are gone. I chose photobucket back then because it seemed like a reliable image hosting site, but it's gone completely down the drain recently, in various ways. But the worst is that photobucket now asks you to pay like 400 dollars or something for a service they always used to provide for free. I don't know what to do about this yet (because I'm not going to pay 400 dollars to shitty photobucket). Anyway, great old article finds. I've heard that story of Axl and the metal detector before though. Must be in some GNR book then or mentioned in another old magazine article or something. On 16.7.2017 at 10:10 PM, KiraMPD said: Another thing that comes to mind when thinking about this subject is the story Slash tells in his book about the time he was sent to county jail for an old jaywalking charge and he later found out that Axl came up with the money for his bail while the other guys apparently had no idea that Slash was even missing (I might be remembering this wrong so please feel free to correct me). How did Axl come up with the money? (not saying that he got it via prostitution but something about that story just doesn't add up to me...) Not gonna lie, the thought crossed my mind as well when I re-read some parts of Slash's book some time ago. But @Blackstars and @Freys information about the bail sum and so on makes that seem more unlikely, thankfully. And didn't Slash say in his book he never even thanked Axl for getting him out of there? It would be rather heart-breaking if Axl went to such lengths and never even got a thank you for it... On 17.7.2017 at 11:42 PM, Frey said: Okay, $178 doesn't seem that much. I always imagined it was more. According to online calculators, $178 back then would equal around $400 today (or slightly more, depending on the year and calculator you use). Which is a more significant amount, but still not necessarily something that would have given Axl no other choice than to sell himself. As you said, it seems doable to scrounge up that kind of money by fundraising, stealing from strippers' purses etc. Good point about about Pamela Manning, I had completely forgotten she'd said that. I agree that the "secrets" Axl told her about are likely the kind of thing you are suggesting- either Tom Zutaut type events or the kind of thing we're discussing now. Though both of these things (assuming for a moment they're both true) might actually be connected; iirc there's a much higher incidence of people who have suffered sexual abuse in their childhoods or other points in their life among people who engange in prostitution than in the general population. One often sets the course for the other, unfortunately. (About Axl feeling more comfortable sharing this kind of thing with a woman rather than a guy friend... It depends, I guess. Back when I was a kid and some guy tried to molest me, I first told my dad and my best buddy at the time. Even young as I was back then, telling my mom or sisters somehow felt more awkward to me. Something to do with not wanting to look like less of man in front of a woman probably, I don't know. Though in Axl's case, and given the super-macho and sexist environment he was in at the time, I could see it being easier to talk to a woman. Less judgement there most likely and possibly also a lot of understanding from personal experience.) I don't remember if I've ever mentioned this here before, but I went through this with one of my friends from high school. She's got nothing in common with Axl, except that she's also rather sensitive and tends towards depression and anxiety and she also used to cut herself with razorblades when she was younger. Axl said he stopped cutting himself and started destroying other stuff instead, my friend started drinking, smoking and doing drugs when she stopped (which was already pretty wild to me, considering she was a very innocent "good girl" type in high school, comes from a well-off family of academics, etc.) Without going into too much detail, this led to her suffering some pretty shitty experiences of the sexual assault kind, like being raped by a friend of hers and losing half of her friends over that (because they couldn't believe that guy would ever do something like that and thought she was making it up) and also the death of her boyfriend. Unsurprsingly she was in a bad place emotionally, but she still needed money to cover the costs of living in a big city and drugs aren't cheap either. She was too embarrassed to ask her parents for money, not self-confident enough to apply for a job (my friend is one of the most intelligent and most kind-hearted people I know, but she was convinced no one would hire her because she hadn't finished university yet and had no real work experience to speak of) and felt she was already "damaged goods" anyway, so she figured she might as well give some men what they so obviously wanted from her and at least earn money from doing so. She'd been selling herself to random men for over a year before she told me. I will never forget the sinking feeling in my stomach and the fear (because the way she did it was especially dangerous imo) I felt then. I've since learned that that feeling of being "damaged goods" or being already tainted in some way is pretty common among survivors of childhood sexual abuse and other sexual assault and often leads them down paths like the one above. I also remember reading about victims of trauma like that sometimes being drawn to situations, places and people similar to the original circumstances of the trauma. So assuming what Tom Zutaut said is true, I could see a young and poor Axl having some kind of "I've already been through this shit anyway and at least this time I get payed for it" - attitude. Add in incidents like the one with the air conditioning repair man trying to rape him or the cops in Lafayette hitting on him and I think, one way or another, Axl must have been very aware that he was desirable to other men. So yeah, I wouldn't be all that shocked if he might have taken advantage of that sometimes for financial or other (more psychologically complex) reasons. I loved it because I didn't have any internet until about 2003 and the only other thing to get really was Kerrang, Classic Rock was quite expensive to me and NME and Mojo were just for the indie kids. I can remember being desperate to find out any information about RIR 2001 and was a bit disappointed with Kerrangs review of it because it focused a lot on Axl's looks, as I recall they had nearly half a page about a doctor who said he had had a very painful hair transplant, a lot more about his weight and even more about his "Ozzy Osbourne appearance" So to have that little fanzine that had reviews in it from people who were actually there was amazing. They also kept up to date with what the other AFD5 members were doing, which was great because Kerrang didn't. Maybe We can make online Fanzines about Axl's current fashion *especially boots N' Hats* also about Axl's ass 13 hours ago, Andy14 said: The ass can't wait Dat ass is cute Somebody have Lulubleu IG story of Dino rockingsaurus? I am sorry for your friend and hope she is/will be able to get out of this. I would pick up the feeling of being "damaged goods". It may come from bad treating/experience (as you said - abuse or trauma and this stuff). Other interesting thing to consider is being the misfit which may even come first or have strong influence (I`ll repeat myself, that if you are different, you know it since ever. The thing is how lucky you are about people you meet and how you learn to cope with your different approach, because even they tell you to be "normal", you cannot, like they cannot be weirdos of your caliber). Talking about two young people I met (Call them BabyAxl and Unicorn Lady), they were both from well-of families, good in school, both incredibly smart and sensitive. Both dealing with being misfits, then drugs, BabyAxl after chain of suicidal efforts, Unicorn Lady cutting herself so she looked like she recently ran naked through rosehip bush. Although having long "late night talks" with them, I`d rather try to build some self-respect in them people than ask them to confess nasty details of their past life. If they speak, I listen, but not ask. I just then heard shreds of stories that Unicorn Lady lost her virginity as a minor to a guy who left her soon afterwards and then the spiral of already existing inability to find people to fit in (that girl was seen brilliant by leaders, but was too different from others in her age and was not much into their stuff), lower and lower self-respect, drugs, I-don`t-ask-what but with her experience with sex I wouldn`t be surprised if she did these things for some advantage afterwards. Other thing is that with so low self-respect she attracted abusive people and other junkies and existences on downward spiral. She spoke about cutting, that she always did it in some kind of lunacy to comfort herself (heard this also from other people cutting themselves). Basically it has something with two things: if you are truly low, you often don`t just don`t feel anything, they say that`s like being dead, vacuum, maybe rational buzzing and overthinking all over that vacuum in feelings. If you hurt yourself, you feel pain. It`s at least something. Pain makes you perceive your body (like sushi-roll blanket comforting technique, just much more brutal, because the pathway for touch and pain is the same, just differs in intensity), additionally you get endorphines (opiates) that brain produces to cope with pain and injury. Here you are, drugged by your own body. (Or you can undergo pain to express your feeling. Pain is enigmatic beast). BabyAxl was young, ginger-blond copy of Axl, incredibly androgynous with that special charm of androgynous guys (mastering this thing without knowing it or being pansy, which makes men confused when they both feel attracted and disgusted by that they feel attracted to someone who is actually a man (and they can "solve" this by becoming violent like Lafayette policemen)). Also a misfit, too smart, too sensitive for hillbillies he came from, and never found people to fit in when growing up. He said that when he got drunk and drugged, the abyss somehow disappeared, with junkies becoming his only friends (but in one sentence admitting that the drug friend are not actual friends). Doing drugs to numb pain sometimes so intense he wanted to rip his guts away. Feeling like a sh*t for being junkie. He was also confused with feeling strongly feminine, "reject", "damaged goods" anyway, feeling so unworthy that in one moment he wanted to pass to make a place for others (and cut himself in attempt to kill himself). Maybe if you can`t find near ones who accept you as you are and unconditionally take care and protect you when you grow up, you somehow lost your hope in ability to make unconditioned relationships. For weirdos is additionally crucial to find someone else "from their planet" to relate to. When you meet these people, they are usually gave to their fate and somehow expect that they will be treated like a sh*t anyway - and accept this position. (It`s for me sad to say, but in the system I work, if you are suicidal or junkie or stuff like this without having established psychiatric diagnosis, you will be treated like an unworthy sh*t by way too many staff) One of the nicest, heart-warming moments is when you start to treat them like human beings, because one of the most difficult things for them to accept is that they are human beings worthy some unconditioned attention and love and when they get this, they respond kindlier and more appreciative than common people - and are surprisingly gentle and polite. Basically that`s all I can do for them, to help them find some self-respect to build solid ground in their rock bottom to rebound, because no one else can heal your soul.
