Thus there is a difference between Social Democracy and Democratic Socialism apparently - pretentious academics get terribly flustered over such affairs. The only people the cartoon could really claim to be mocking are people from the US who think that anything left of the Republican party is 'Socialism'. The cartoon is basically just taking a shot at (yes some Americans), specifically some Democrats that refer to the Nordic Model as a way that "socialism" works in Europe. The donkey is the Democrat talking to the Elephant, who is the Republican. The joke is that even the Nordic Model is driven by Capitalism...hence the generator.
