It makes no sense basically.

A shouty bunch of gobshites hanging every left-wing grievance around Trump and disgracing themselves.

Homosexuality? Where were these protesting types when the Commonwealth nations were here recently, 37 of which prohibit homosexuality? There were some protests but not on the scale we have seen for Trump. Trump is guilty of many things but he has not introduced stoning for homosexuality (yet!).

Everyone takes for granted that those Commonwealth nations are backward and ignorant

It doesn't make sense to you. But it makes sense to them. People have the right to demostrate for or against Trump, Macron, Merkel, Putin, Boris, Corbyn or whoever for any issues that are important to them

Pretty sure it's mostly referring to the Nordic Model.

The Nordic Model is Social Democracy, not outright Socialism, and everyone who has even a rudimentary understanding of political science is aware of that.

Right.  That's the joke.  "European Socialism" isn't really socialism.  It's capitalism with major social safety nets....hence why the "capitalism generator" is lighting up the socialism sign.

Man, sometimes you guys are dense. :lol:

The first thing you learn when researching the history of socialism/communism is its penchant for manifesting itself as something not quite ''pure'', a new -ism, or something containing two words separated by a space or a hyphen. Thus there is a difference between Social Democracy and Democratic Socialism apparently - pretentious academics get terribly flustered over such affairs.

OR...it could be saying that it is socialism but socialism as a functional entity is obselete because its only functional because of capitalism.

But that would only be funny if it advertised itself as Socialism, whereas in the countries that operate the Nordic model they're entirely aware that it's Social Democracy.

The only people the cartoon could really claim to be mocking are people from the US who think that anything left of the Republican party is 'Socialism'.

I also don't really understand the lesson that the cartoon is trying to give us. Is it arguing the beloved mantra of Neoliberal Capitalism "There Is No Alternative"? If so, that's a pretty blunt and unhelpful generalisation that ignores the profound differences in both functionality and outcomes between the heavily deregulated version of Capitalism that operates in the US and the Nordic model.

I wouldn't look that much into it buddy.  The cartoon is basically just taking a shot at (yes some Americans), specifically some Democrats that refer to the Nordic Model as a way that "socialism" works in Europe.  The donkey is the Democrat talking to the Elephant, who is the Republican.

The joke is that even the Nordic Model is driven by Capitalism...hence the generator.  That's all it was....no need to overanalyze it.....

The protesters seem to have hung every leftist grievance around Trump. Just about every shouty lefty has emerged, homosexuality and transgenderisms, feminists, ecoisms/greenisms (old fashioned hippy causes), unionist traditional left (complaining about tariffs), general Corbynista tweeting millenials and Brexit remoaners. Whatever happened to decency and decorum in this country?

Without sounding condescending people see themselves as good, so they like to show how nice they are. So social media lets you tweet out how nice you are. Protesters may be the same. Niche issues but not in relation to a broader context.

Wait socialism isn’t communism is it? No I’m not reading a book, text me or instagram me a pic of a cat.

That’s the future of social media. We clone ourselves then live stream our entire lives to anthems of Trump tweets.

But that is why PC culture seems so prevalent, no one mentions wanking on social media other than Hugh Grant. And even he doesn’t literally talk about wanking he just embodies wanking to such a high degree that it becomes the only hot topic.

Kilts sort of lend themselves to sexual misconduct, don’t they?

Yes, I always find it very odd. All those men wearing kilts. Not a sign of good things
