Exactly, nothing, nothing at all, not the police, the British army, the RAF, the grenadier guards, the sight of Chrises mum getting bummed by Queens Head second 11, nothing!

Weak. No attempt for bad grammar etc. Just went 1st grade with a mom insult. I expected better.

''Socialising at school''? Would that be before somebody was helicoptered from the school field because he'd ODed on heroin, or after? Never heard of the concept. We all just ''got the hell out of dodge'' as soon as possible. My school was so bad there were teachers quitting weekly because of anxiety and mental strain.

To be honest it's Steiner school kids who I always found to be a bit weird. The Steiner school kids would join my school at aged 15, to do their GCSEs. My school was a very straight-laced kind of place, and then our year would become bombarded, to the point which it increased in size one third as so many kids from the Steiner school joined, without announcement. They were generally bright, but had little idea how to operate in a state school setting. I remember being in a German class, and one girl started knitting (aged 18, she asked me what chlamydia was, evidently their sex ed classes lacked in that department too). They had a noticeable self-confidence and would pick battles with teachers on small issues of principle which the rest of us knew weren't worth arguing over. The ones I still hear of have gone on to to be successful, so I suppose that's what matters.

I suppose anyone from an 'outsider' setting is going to have trouble adapting to a new environment.

Isn't it just cheaper to go on Grind'r for a buggering these days?

On a serious note, would you send your kid to a private school, being that you're a parent?  I mean if you had the dough and that and the school would have em, bearing in mind that like...by sending em there they are statistically more likely to get a good job in the upper echelons of society than your average schlepper going to fuckin' some random comprehensive school.  Your mate Hitch' went to a private school.  I think his Mum said 'if there's gonna be a ruling class in this country I want Christopher to be a part of it'.

We're actually planning to send her to a private school. Found a great place in Manchester that teaches in Spanish and English and runs more along the lines of a Scandinavian type curriculum.

It's not for a couple of years yet. Fees are £33 a day but it's flexi time so she doesn't need to attend 5 days every week.

The missus wants to spend a couple of months a year abroad with her to help with the language stuff so that would fit in pretty well.

This is the place.

I grew up in a place which is widely known for its public school. To the point when people ask "where are you from?" I reply "…but I didn't go to school there".

Considering my recent run of career misfortune, I'm tempted to change the school I went to on my CV. There's been at least two interviews with ladies' college types where it might have benefitted me.

The problem is, I can choose a college, pretended that I did well on the hockey team and name enough people who did go there… but the people I've met on here will testify my mouth needs a few plums to sound convincing. They'd offer me a job, then on the first day I'd walk in and be all "eyy up, big and brassaaaay" etc.

My eldest son just finished 6 years at a private school. If I end up home schooling the middle one we will have navigated the whole spectrum of educational options over the course of the last 20 years.

I'll report back in about a decade and let you know if he made it to the ruling class!

Its not like they’re gonna go back and check, fuck it, sling it down!

The British school system is incredibly complicated, isn't it, divided as it is between public, independent, grammar and state-comprehensive schools? Throw in your faith schools, single-sex ''bumed-up the arse'' schools and just the simple fact that there are wide ranges in academic quality (especially in the state schools) and you need a decent schooling, as a parent, just to decipher the whole thing!!

You also have these new massive academies but that is secondary education; they were introduced after I left and all the local high schools (including mine) were obliterated and now everyone travels to this massive modern monolith bulging with thousands of kids.

I am not criticising you if you do it but what does that say about the snobbery in this country, that you would feel the need to do that?
