I read somewhere that Matt Sorum was the one to put Bucket on Axl's radar, after they worked together on the Power Rangers movie soundtrack which was recorded at Rumbo. It was Robin who was on Matt's radar.
Stro
The timeline did seem off for that to me since the Power Rangers movie was 1995 and Bucket didn't join until 2000, but it is interesting they played together

Same with Bumblefoot. I'm inclined to believe that he knew of BH via his work with Viggo Mortensen for some reason "According to Josh Freese, drummer of the band at the time, Axl made the invitation to Buckethead, which wasn't sure about joining the band. It was during a Christmas dinner that Axl, inviting the guitarist to his house, offered him a Leatherface doll - everything Buckethead wanted. The last myth began during the recordings of Chinese Democracy, when it was said badly that Buckethead had a giant chicken cage, where only he could enter. In this cage was a television, which passed hardcore porn 24/7. But the conspirators went further: one day, Axl's dog pooped inside the cage, Axl wanted to get it out and Buckethead insisted that the feces stayed there. More on that later. "Axl invited Buckethead on Christmas Day. The guitarist was upset because no one had gifted him with a rare doll of Leatherface(n. Of the movie "Massacre of the Saw") he had asked for as a gift. Buckethead himself tells the story: "I was invited to go to Axl's house on Christmas Eve, I had never met him before, I was sad that I had not won the doll, but it was still sad, I went to Axl's house , he presented me with a wrapped package. The Michael Myers version had already been released some time ago, I knew it was the same box. Axl probably tried to play guitar a bit during that time. then after Robin left, there was the "OMG era", which resulted in release of OMG, supposedly without Robin's previously recorded parts. they had Dave Navarro as a guest on lead guitars there, in addition to Paul Huge, Axl, Gary Sunshine. then, around Christmas, Axl invited Buckethead, and for some months the guitars lineup was Paul and Buckethead. only later in 2000 (Fragility Tour ended in July 2000, but probably it took some more time after that), Robin rejoined the band and the three-guitar thing was born.
