Popular Post Sosso
"You know, it's very different... it's really cool stuff, but it was played by guitar players that are very different from me, style-wise. "I've sort of adapted my own way of playing those songs to where I feel comfortable with them, but without losing the integrity of how the guitar parts go. So it's been a lot of fun to do, like, the song 'Chinese Democracy,' which I love playing. "And there's a song we've been playing lately called 'Madagascar,' which, I don't even know exactly what the guitar parts are on the original at this point because I've changed it so much." "That said, I also want to give credit where credit's due - the guitar players that played on Chinese Democracy, Buckethead being one of the main ones - are fucking amazing guitar players." "I have to give those guys a shout-out because that stuff was cool. Very different from what I normally do. So it's been interesting learning some of the stuff that was on that record. I definitely had to figure out ways to adapt to it." https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/general_music_news/slash_on_gnrs_chinese_democracy_buckethead_is_a_fucking_amazing_player.html Edited October 8, 2018 by Sosso 16

Though I rate most of his solo stuff in recent years as too generic (with some exceptions), I think he still will be creating magic riffs and solos given the right quality basis of songs. Axl and Slash together on a song will always generate that extra creative spark I think.

I agree with his solo stuff, although I'm not the biggest fan of his SMC stuff I've liked songs on the last couple of SMC albums but most of all prefer his solo album. Personally I think Slash has the potential for some killer moments. I have no doubt that if he is asked to lay a solo on a Axl ballad or epic that he can create magic just like with Estranged or NR

Nah, he's got that guitar playing thing down. It's who he is, it's what he does. But you can't really think in terms of topping anything when you're writing, it's gotta come naturally and it's gotta say something.
TeeJay410
I figured Chinese Democracy was his favorite song. Musically it is similar to about five Velvet Revolver songs.

El Guapo
It depends on how hard they are willing to really dive in and find the monkey. Both Axl and Slash. Edited October 8, 2018 by El Guapo

There is a lot of ego there. I wouldn't think it would work out too well. Fortus is a top guitarist without a massive ego. Bumblefoot too. The only way it workout personality wise is Slash Fortus and Bumblefoot.

I'd imagine many, or some parts from former guitarists will be intact in the next album. Now that Bumble is out, some serious adaptation would need to occur to replace a Bucket part or solo. gnfnrs1972
Yeah all those guitarists are great. You could really tell how great they are when playing CD songs to half filled arenas. The crowds went apeshit crazy every time a CD song was played. 1 1

That has no relevance to the amazing work by Bucket and Finck. Popularity doesn't equal quality. 5
appetite4illusions
What is an interesting question is would Slash have played something differently had he never heard the Bucket or Finck solos? For instance, Robin has a really cool and smooth blues solo on Better, it's one of his best melodic moments on the album. When Slash approaches that solo, he doesn't do nearly the same thing, opting instead for something that is a little more brash and shrill, but is he approaching it that way because he's trying to be different from the other guy? Had he never heard what the other person did, would his approach to it be something that was similar, like a sweet blues solo?

Azifwekare
I would love to hear Slash and Bucket on a track together. If Axl could compile a guitar duet between the two...
