Interview archive at A4D (~900 articles)

Dear all, 

I just wanted to tip you on the massive GN'R article and interview database we are creating at A4D. We have almost 900 unique articles in the database, and add new ones every week. 

I am currently putting them in chronological order here to make it easy to browse: http://www.a-4-d.com/t2861-interview-and-article-index but this list only extends into 1990.

The core of the old articles are the ones that have been floating around since the old times, but we are digging up new ones all the time (buying from eBay and subscribing to magazine and newspaper archives), so there is definitely stuff here you have never read before

You really don't need to buy a GN'R book, you have all the sources here. But if you want to read a more condensed summary, I am working on it, too 

And who are "we"? Me and @Blackstarand the rest of the lovely crew at A4D.

So come and read, no need to register, it is all free We are not even getting advert revenue. It is a hobby, a labour of love (to nerdy chronicling more than GN'R).

By using this index you can browse all interviews/articles up to the end of 1990: http://www.a-4-d.com/t2861-interview-and-article-index  Although we are adding new interviews from this period almost daily.

By using the drop-down menu on the top of the page (browser specific) you can browse interviews up to the end of 1996. Of course, we will expand this as we go along.

If you want newer interviews from later than 1996, you have to find them manually in this section: http://www.a-4-d.com/f19-gn-r-interview-and-articles-archive They are sorted chronologically, so it should be possible, but it does take time to browse through page after page.

In the future, the index and the drop-down menu will be complete and every interview can be easily found using either.

Of course, A4D also contains a complete concert and song database. All this is being worked on continuously. My latest idea -- because my ambition is far greater than my capacity -- was to write the history of the band as told by the band members themselves. This is very much a work in project, and will not be finished until the end of 2019.

Hi guys.

@Blackstar and I recently finished adding articles/interviews for 2010 (well, mostly her). Copied to Word, the articles comprise a tome of about 7526 pages to read, if you are so inclined. If you aren't, you can read the reader's digest version that is our history section and we are currently finishing a new chapter for it (well, mostly me). This chapter will focus on 2010 and 2011, so finally DJ enters the stage! Hurrah!

But if you look at the list of articles/interviews ((32) INTERVIEW AND ARTICLE INDEX (a-4-d.com)) you will notice a worrying trend: more and more of the interviews are not transcribed. This is particularly the case for interviews from 2008 and onwards. Partly because by now more and more interviews were done over video and posted on Youtube, and partly because Blackstar and I have so much work to do that we can't really cover it all. Transcribing video interviews takes a lot of time, even when you can extract subtitles from Youtube. And we put quite a bit of care into our work to make sure we do it right.

So in short, would anyone be interested in helping out with the transcription of video interviews? It's a cool job and like Blackstar and me you will go down in history as heroes of the GN'R community and @Fernando will include you in the GNR Fam. Expect a thank you note from Axl in the next album liners, backstage bjs and free toy trucks. Nah, but it is actually weirdly satisfying to document the band for posterity. So, is anyone up for it?

- Axl, interview in Hard-Rock Magazine (France), Feb. 1988. Talks, among other things, about one of his first trips from Indiana to L.A.:

"The first time I set foot in L.A., I was on the run from the law. My grandmother was driving me and a friend to the airport. As we were driving along, the cops came around the corner, right behind us. I yelled, "Go, grandma, go!" She didn't know I was in trouble with the cops, of course."
