CircleOfTone
Hey peeps. First post. I'm trying to recreate the studio tone of AFD in my project studio So far I have the following: Slash: GIBSON SG BC Rich LP Copy (main Derrig guitar) Frank Levi modded SIR 36 (copy of #39) "Celestion vintage" 30 (not the modern v30 speakers) Izzy: ES-175 with P90 pickup Amps? Was it a Mesa MKIII or a Fender Bassman? Where did these amp quotes come from as they are pretty random with no actual proof they are real quotes. "Gibson ES-175 - Fender Bassman 60's Blackface head with Mesaboogie 4x12 cabinet with EV speakers in the bottom and Celestions on top." Also the quote that mentions the Mesa mkiii seem to be from Google translate with no actual quote. I know it was a Trident console but any info on acoustic etc used would also be helpful. The chorus pedal effect on the second bridge, is that a Lesley rotating speaker? I have one so I'm hoping that is the case. Cheers! Silverburst80
Can't know for certain but he was playing Mesa MK 3 in that era for sure. On the back cover of Appetite theres a Boogie in the left hand corner and in the new Its So Easy video he's playing that head live.

I just found out they used sm57 on guitars, snare and even the bass drum.
soon
This thread has some good info: Mike Clink: "I wasn't afraid to use whatever gear was right to make it work. I mean, Carvins were not my favourite amp but they worked for Izzy." Theres scans of a magazine here, page 86 has Clink talking about Izzy using Carvin. Page 81 has a little box with a brief overview of both Slash and Izzys AFD rigs: http://www.slashparadise.com/media/interviews-slash/return-to-the-jungle-guitar-one-june-2002.pdf And for fun, here's Izzy in an advertisement for Carvin https://equipboard.com/pros/izzy-stradlin/carvin-xv-112ev-studio-tube-amp
