Is 2019 the "last best chance" for GnR to do the Super Bowl half time show?

The rumor comes up all the time over the years,  usually it's just kind of GnR fan porn, where there has been no reason to think it would happen...but with GnR coming off one of the most successful tours in history, their absolute love affair with surprises and secrecy, would this not be the potential "last best chance" for them to be a part of halftime?

I see they haven't officially named who will be there, TMZ is reporting Maroon 5 (if I'm reading it correctly.)

I think it is a worthwhile side discussion about the possibility of Slash or Axl or both doing a cameo (Like Slash did in the past) if GnR isn't actually performing.

This seemed like a timely, good discussion, if there is some hard evidence we will not see GnR there, or if I am mistaken, and the half time show is finalized, I apologize.

Hardly a requisite for doing the Super Bowl.  But I still don't think they'll do it.

I've probably given this more thought than I should have, but really, I don't see Axl doing a performance like that unless he's the 'main act' (not 1 of 3 acts, not someone to be followed by Ariana Grande... he's gonna be the headline act and maybe bring a 'guest' out for a ballad), and I don't see GNR being given the full halftime show unless they're riding the momentum of a successful album. I know they've had Lenny Kravitz and other token rock acts in recent years but they were hardly the 'main act'.

Maroon 5 is all but confirmed for the halftime show. The NFL hasn't officially announced it but Billboard reported it way back in October.

I guess the looney tunes thing makes me think that really isn't the case.  I don't know what has changed in Axl, it might be as simple as being rich af now, but he seems a lot looser.

Is that right?  It was really hard to tell when I  was researching it, I guess because the NFL hasn't confirmed it.

This is kind of a worthless thread from me, sorry guys.

I'd agree in the case of Axl as a solo performer (because of guesting on/with Looney Tunes, AC/DC, and Billy Joel) but the only interesting things GNR have really done is 1 song with the Foo Fighters, and bring Angus out a few times. In the context of the superbowl, I can't imagine Axl/GNR not playing for the majority of the show, which wouldn't make sense unless they have a popular album. I don't think they'd bother if they were offered, for example, to end the halftime show with just Paradise City.

Also, the superbowl halftime shows are pre-recorded aren't they? I don't see Axl going for that, regardless of whether it's to his benefit.

I imagine the stadium going black, then two huge guns pop up and go off, the side panels along the stadium light up like a bullet tracking then the two bullets hit to cause an explosion and you see Axl on a huge stage yelling "YOU KNOW WHERE YOU ARE! YOURE IN THE JUNGLE BABY, TIME TO DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" then Slash starts the opening notes they tear thru jungle, SCOM and Paradise City as rose pedals fall from the sky in the outro and fireworks light up the night sky...what a beautiful scene it will be.

but it won't happen, NFL sucks, and I doubt Axl is interested in it.

No 1. The Superbowl hasn't interest In gnr or any proper rock groups. That Metallica havei played it yet demonstrates that point better than anything I can say. They want acts who are sugary and sweet who will mime and advertise with a big smile... Also rock bands don't do publicity stunt like nipple slips so, all in all not that much interest.

#2 2016 was the year to get gnr to do it, they were very hot that year.with each passing year it's taken more And more fir granted that Axl and Slash are best buds again.

#3 I'm sure they could do it, but who cares! They really don't need to do it, they are doing well on their own terms they don't need to mime on TV for the paycheck. If they do it good and well, far be of me to say how someone else is to earn their money OR how much money is enough for somebody! But yeah, it's a nice weather in the cap... Like playing Glastonbury etc.

#4 if they let gnr play live, I'd think it was worth it, and that goes for any band that plays it. It's fine for pop acts to have band miming but not for real bands... It's hard to get right but live south d on live TV is doable, they do every year for rock in Rio mostly to great results!

I bet Axl wants a lot of money to do a half time show. The powers that be won't pay it.

Nikki Sixx says MC might do something at the Super Bowl. I wonder if it's true or not or maybe they'll just show an ad for The Dirt movie.

It would be awesome to see a real rock band perform.

A lot of the stadiums always play WTTJ, so if GNR performed it live that would be so cool. But yeah, I doubt it.
