Anyone meet Slash after his solo shows?

I’ve always wanted to meet Slash and grab a quick photo or autograph. The GnR shows are obviously on a much bigger scale and really tough to meet the band, but i figured these smaller shows at clubs might be easier.  I tried years ago at a VR show at the spectrum in philly. No Slash but I did get to meet Matt.

Anyone have any experience with this?  I don’t want to stick around the venue and wait if there’s no chance of him making an appearance.

It seems like it's hit or miss when it comes to this, you either get lucky or you don't.  There is a guy on this forum, I can't remember his username, who was a pro at meeting bands and getting backstage.  He used really cool cloak and dagger stuff sometimes.  Some of the stories he told of his exploits were hilarious.

I met slash after a solo show in 2013.  my friend and I hung out by the tour buses that were outside the venue along with 50 fans or so.  I'd say he came out an hour after the show.  He wouldn't take pics with anyone.  he did sign autographs (one per person) but did not engage in any conversation.

I have heard from others he doesn't like taking pics.  part of it could be having to take 50 selfies, check the pic, redo the pic, get annoyed, then go thru the whole process with a new person.

I also have a friend who ran into him in the Caribbean back in 2010 at a poker tournament and said slash was kind of a dick.  but he kept running into him at the resort and eventually Perla got Slash to give my friend and autograph and talk about the Slash and friends album that was about to come out.

But there are stories about Slash being pretty cool when meeting him too- not that he wasnt cool to me, he just wasn't overly friendly which is fine.  he still took time out of his schedule for his fans, and that's cool enough for me.

MRW80- are you from Philly?   are you going to Duffs show in May?  I was thinking about going but then heard the new single and am now thinking it's probably not worth going to. I also have noone to go with (I have never met another Duff fan).  and it's my wedding anniversary (lol, my wife knows my first love is GNR so it's cool if I go to the show)

My friend seen Slash with VR in Glasgow in 2007 I’m sure. There was about 20 people outside after the show and when Slash came out, he got escorted straight to his car and only acknowledged the fans by flipping the bird when he got into the vehicle. Charming.

He met Axl after the GNR show in 06 though and had more success, despite waiting outside his hotel til 5am where he was getting pampered apparently!

Post-GN’R and Pre-VR I found it easy to see SLASH before and/or after shows. I saw Snakepit mutiple times with the 2 different vocalists and Blues Ball once. He came off his tour bus each and every time after the show & typically hung out taking pics and signing autographs until everyone was taken care of. One time he even stopped boarding the bus to step back off and answer a question I asked him. He was always very accommodating and nice.

At one show at Slim’s in San Francisco, he actually walked right out the front door of the venue while we were waiting in line to get in and talked to a few of us before getting in a vehicle for a quick trip somewhere. I also had good luck at the Phoenix Theater in Petaluma, CA when I swear only about 300 people attended a Snakepit show there. Good times.

I will say that he usually was apprehensive about taking pictures, but always relented.

Because of all the positive experiences I had from 1995 through 2000ish, I was fully expecting to take my 12-yo son to the VR show in SF in 2007 and see him again (my son never met him). But that’s where my streak ended. While waiting near the tour bus after the show, SLASH, DUFF and Weiland snuck out a different exit and left the venue in a car. I was quite bummed. I chalked it up to Weiland’s influence.

I saw Slash with Myles in 2010 but didn’t try again as my wife was with me and she didn’t want to stay late and we already had to wait for the live CD’s they sold for that show. So I don’t know how accessible he is with that band.

My advice, though, if you’re gonna try, is to do it at a SMKC show. Your chances should be much greater.

Many times in the Netherlands: Blues Ball at Paradiso in 1997, Snakepit in 2000, SMKC in 2010, 2012 and 2013 (when he signed my guitar). Was not at the Amsterdam show last week as I was on holiday in Sweden (saw the band in Stockholm though on Thursday), but yeah, usually chances are great at an SMKC show. Indeed no pictures but only autographs, but always very friendly and relaxed!

I worked at a TV station and we weren't supposed to talk to talent. The only person I would probably ever risk my job to engage in conversation with would have been Slash. I was smart about it and a couple of weeks in advance, I asked my manager what the chances were of me meeting him. She asked his people, and they were cool. A couple of weeks later, I met him in the green room before his interview started. I brought in my guitar for him to sign, but being a vintage guitar, he said 3 times that he didn't want to sign it - instead he signed his book for me. We took a picture as well.

I was pretty stunned when I walked in to meet him because he was fully dressed in leather jacket, sunglasses, tophat. That impacted my ability to talk to him on a normal level - I believe it would have been easier had he been in just a T-shirt, no hat/sunglasses. lol  - that being said, he kept the conversation going, asked about my guitar, played it a bit and thought it had a nice setup. I would say he was very accommodating - especially since he had no obligation to meet me. I literally brought up the weather... his people (3 of them sitting in the room with us) were probably laughing at me. lol

The people I know that work in TV and have interviewed him said he is excellent to work with. Very friendly and conversational.

Interesting. So it seems he was more welcoming when he was playing small clubs with Snakepit to a paying public of about five, and less so once he re-entered the bigger venues, Velvet Revolver era onwards. There is a lesson on morality and life there if you care to pursue it.

He was a lot younger and drunker in the Snakepit days.

Slash is English. Of course he's going to give the middle digit to the Scots

I forgot, I was backstage at an after show thing in 2012 for a SMKC show and Slash was too sick to come out and meet people. My connection said hed take stuff to get signed by Slash. I left my AfD vinyl in the car so I handed him something else. He comes back and my item was signed to a different person. The assistant told me to give him my vinyl, and hed get it signed and mailed back to me. Sure enough, he did, and made sure we got to meet Slash a few months later where I got a picture and stuff. Slash was harder to get a pic with than Axl

I met him in 08 by the buses outside of the buses. Duff came out 1st and was pretty cool with everybody. Then Slash came out. Before he started signing autographs, he announced firmly that he would not be taking any pictures. I had a copy of his book that he signed. He didn't seem like he was in a friendly mood, but at the same time he did not have to come over to where us the fans were. Personally, I can respect that and was very appreciative that he took the time. This was Des Moines Iowa after the Velvet Revolver show.

Maybe it was the disaster Glasgow show Matt is referring to at 1:55:

That’s pretty cool, thanks for the share. I’d never seen or known that before. I’ll be sure to ask if it was that show that the incident happened!

Met Slash once after a gig, waited out back before soundcheck and he walked straight from the tour bus to the venue. Went out back after the show and he came out about an hour later and stood and signed shit for about 50-60 people. No photos as someone mentioned, but who fucking cares. Got his autograph, shook his hand and that's more than enough for me. He was smaller than i expected him to be. Polite and quite. I think the main thing is when meeting famous people is dont be a dick and dont ask for a photo straight away. Ive met a few people from bands, and its always been smooth because I dont expect anything, not a photo not an autograph. A handshake and thanks for the tunes is enough.

It's still there, you just need to watch it on youtube, not here.

 I was drunk and didn't even think about clicking the link and just watching it on youtube. I just thought one of the assholes got it deleted.

Yeah. When I saw him back in 2012, he would come out and give everyone an autograph. No pictures though. Yesterday in Zurich there were about 20 people waiting. They drove the bus right in front of the backstage door, as opposed to have him walk 30 metres to where the bus was parked previously, he made one step from the door inside the bus and they left. This is post GNR. He made millions. He doesn't need to do shit like give autographs or acknowledge fans anymore.
