I always remember Axl's speech on the "Revolution Calling" bootleg where he talks about the new record (UYI) and encouraging fans to "Hey, if you can't afford it, steal it".  My how times have changed. I don't even recognize the band these days. They won't release music, they release overpriced boxsets, weird useless merch and try to delete all traces of their shows from the internet.  This is not how you sell a brand and TB is crushing this band. They used to be called the most dangerous band in the world. Now they are just the most litigious.  It's lame... The leaks piqued my interest, but going again to see them live or buying live albums is so far off my radar at this point. I just don't give a shit. There are plenty of other bands who do appreciate their fans who I'd rather give my money and time to.

Great analogy :)

I will always listen to GNR, I will never, ever, understand how people can try and justify the managements decisions. They have had so many chances to put things right, to address the fans and to try and understand our point of view. They choose not to.

I refuse to take part in this "they are bad, we made them rich and we deserve this and that bla bla bla" narrative. nobody owes you not one god damn thing

With all due respect though, I think it is only fair when management does not do anything to foster anything resembling a two-way street dialogue, sure anyone can go "nobody owes you anything" but that is also a two way street.  Margott, a passionate fan, was not "owed" a hostile reply by management yet she got one.  And if there are imperfections that impact our GNR fandom, it is only natural to launch those complaints at the source of infection

The takeaway isn't "we made them rich, we deserve stuff". The takeaway is "this management is not fostering a healthy relationship with the people who love GNR the most"

I consider Margott as a friend of mine and chatted with her after she was attacked with those racist memes. She loves this band and wanted nothing more than to share her videos with other fans. She is a very nice person, who has spent a lot of her hard earned money going to GNR concerts, buying merch and tickets. It would seem that TB does not realize that they would not have jobs today, if it weren't for all the fans that support the band and keep them earning money. And for true fans to get treated like shit by GNR management is totally unacceptable. Also these fan videos, do not hurt the band, if anything they make people want to go to the shows, introduce new fans to the band, and make people want to buy music.

Sorry but this bullshit is totally unacceptable 🤬

does anyone have a screenshot of those memes?

I know Margott does, I might, but would have to search thru a lot of stuff to find them. I think there are a couple of other people who have them too.

They were provided to nightrain admins at the time several letters of complaint were sent to them.

I quit going on nightrain when all the drama started taking over and interfering with my love for the music.

The memes were first posted online a while back, but then news ones reappeared several months ago on nightrain, which were more subtle so most people did not realize what was going on and they were attempting to use them to basically trigger Margott, who knew exactly what was being implied.

I wasn't aware that management needed a relationship with people other than GNR themselves.

what kind of relationship would that be?

free cookies and tea each sunday, and free demos for all, from your "best friends" at GNR?

when did "thank you" during concerts, stop being enough?

(by the way, thank you too Axl!)

oh, people want more? fuck that shit. not everyone shares that opinion.

How am I a ‘“big man”? 16-20 dollars an hour is the standard pay a nanny usually gets for babysitting, house cleaning, etc. my point was that if beta didn’t work for Axl rose, she would be making the same amount of money as everyone here, yet she acts high and mighty. Don’t be dumb, dude.

It was sarcasm, dude. $20 an hour seems low for cleaning your house and raising your kids. You should have more respect instead of mocking her humble holidaying aspirations on the internet. I bet she works hard for that standard pay. How many hours does she work?

If for example you had her make the effort to drive all the way out to your place to work for, say 1hour, would you just give her $20? If so, you're a fucking cheapskate. In that kind of situation her payment should be bumped up to save everyone's dignity. If you can afford to pay her more than a standard rate then do so and if you can't maybe show some respect and forgo some personal luxuries so you can.

How about professionalism? How about, when you sign up to a service related to the band, like their official fan forum, the staff working for the band actually does its job so that when members are subjected to racism, sexism, xenophobia etc, something's done to stop it? I've been a moderator on another forum for 15 years now, and that shit doesn't fly there. You look after your members. That goes when it's a free service, but it's especially expected when it's a paid service and if they don't want to do that, don't offer the service. It's that simple.

All things considered, it just sucks that the people who love the band the most can't bond with each other over videos of the band on Youtube, which is all we have beyond a box set with 30 year old demos and an album from 2008.  And anyone in management who is not a part of the solution, is part of the problem

Don Henley and The Eagles have the same “delete all bootlegs from the internet” policy, but at least with them they have a couple great live albums

Exactly, paying $40 or $80 to only be abused and condescended to on a daily basis, is not conducive to a good environment. 🤬

Yep. It's why I didn't renew my membership there. The environment was toxic.

I wasn't subjected to as terrible a treatment as your friend, but did receive nasty comments of a sexist and xenophobic nature and nothing was done about it. I expect better. And what was done to your friend is inexcusable.

Oh I didn't know they did this as well.  I know Prince himself had a huge love for not allowing any of his music on youtube be it live footage or studio cuts, and even before he died I was saying how many younger fans he was missing out on by not allowing them to discover his music the way they discover new music nowadays

Prince didn’t like not being able to control his catalogue, Henley wants his fans to come to concerts and enjoy the moment

What actions can we as hardcores take to make this band change how they treat us?

If we don’t go to shows they still sell because of all the casuals.

Thoughts? 💭

Someone post Axl’s misogynistic rant about Madison

Axl’s a sad little man who still lives in a bubble to protect himself from reality

The bubble can be penetrated with money, strangely

yeah exactly that was way over the line beyond anything done in the forum especially that he would do that himself just goes to show they fucking hate the hand that feeds them funny how on the forums they are so glued to - and the backtracking and or damage control/reverse psychology tries to come into play
