Anyone remember Going Down, that leaked a few years back?

The one with Tommy Stinson on lead vocals and Axl on backing vocals.

Didi anyone get any more information on why this song leaked? Was it possibly one of the last cuts that didn't make it to Chinese Democracy?

It's not a bad song..

Here are the lyrics:

I know the shape you're in

It's a crown of thorns

It never seems to break the skin
There's no blood, there's no scars
And just your broken feet

You used to be so sweet
And you walked with a smile
The Ashtray's full and the coffee's cold
And the things you say... make you look so old

[Pre-Chorus]
You've got nothing good to say
Keep your mouth shut
Nothing good to do
Mirror talks to you
Nothing's ever good enough for you

[Chorus]
Sick of everything you say as you're goin' down
Sorry for everything
Sick of everything that you do as your going down
Look like a fool
Never meant to hurt no one
Just happened to be there next to you
As you were going down

I know this dark place
I heard these words
I've heard them before a million times
I've heard them yelled I've even heard them sung
Get into your car and drive just as fast as you can
You had your 15 minutes you tried to take an hour
Now No one needs your call

[Pre-Chorus]
You've got nothing good to say
Keep your mouth shut
Nothing good to do
Mirror talks to you
Nothing's ever good enough for you

[Chorus]
Sick of everything you say as you're goin' down
Sorry for everything
Sick of everything that you do as your going down
Look like a fool
Never meant to hurt no one
Just happened to be there next to you
As you were going down
As you're goin' down
As you're goin' down
Goin' down

[Guitar Solo]
[Chorus]

Sick of everything you say as you're goin' down
Sorry for everything
Sick of everything that you do as your going down
Look like a fool
Never meant to hurt no one
Just happened to be there next to you
As you were going down

As you were goin down, goin down
As you were goin down, goin down
As you were goin down, goin down
As you were goin down, goin down

Nothing's good enough for you

Great song. I genuinely hope that the rumours of Axl apparently recording lead vocals for this song are true.

Also, this leaked 6 summers ago. Time flies.

It came out of the blue when it leaked. No one had ever spoke about it.

It popped up on the Rio 2011 setlist, and was mentioned in the video by our wrestling friend with the mental glasses.

I have never heard the rumour of Axl and the lead vocal before? I wonder how much involvement each member had with that song?

That popped up around the time it leaked. Take it with a pinch of salt though! Another thing I heard that it was a Tommy song that he intended to release solo, but Axl really liked it and wanted it for Guns. None of this is confirmed and just rumour.

The whole ‘intended as a Tommy solo song’ does ring a bell.

I absolutely love this song .. Tommy's vocals are great, but it's the backing vocals from Axl that really hit the emotions ... His tone is just too nice! The guitar work is awesome, love the chord prog. during the chorus & the solo is very interesting (shoutout to Bumble) .. The lyrics aren't too bad either .. Would love for it to be finished and properly released with the next album but I heard on here from users that apparently the rights to the song were sold? I really hope not because this is totally a GUNS tune!

It's a proof that Guns N' Roses has tons of releasing-worth material that we can't even imagine.

The title had been floating around since 2011 actually, Ron described it as 'an earthy song' (or something similar to that) when he was asked about it.

The chorus strikes me as pure Tommy. Love it! The lead guitar hook and solo is very NuGuns to my ears. Axl sounds tagged on to me (on 2002 version at least). :shrugs:

Its like Axl is the third wheel in his own band!

I could totally see this song on his debut solo album Village Gorilla Head.

I remember there used to be a Thread with the Lyrics in it (can't find it now) This is what I hear.

It's just your broken faith

You've got nothing good to say
Keep your mouth shut
Nothing good to do
Do it to yourself
Nothing's ever good enough for you

Sick of everything you say as you're goin' down
Sorry for everything
Sick of everything that you do as your going down
Look like a fool
Never meant to hurt no one
Who Just happened to be there next to you
As you were going down

I know this dark place
I heard these words
I've heard them from familiar tongues
I've heard them yelled I've even heard them sung
Get into your car and drive just as fast as you can
You had your 15 minutes you tried to take an hour

Its a nice little tune that would make a good album cut for a Tommy solo album.

I actually think it would be better without Axl or atleast a different vocal take from him - Its like nails on a chalkboard as is. Also the solo is horrific and doesn't fit the track at all.

I remember when it was spotted in the setlist and Ron was asked about it, he tried to dismiss it as a Freddie King cover at first. Then it leaked and the cat was out of the bag.

It's been 6 years already?!?! And almost 11 since the release of Chinese Democracy. That's just crazy, and the band with the most wasted time in history just continues to waste more time releasing nothing.

There Was a Time when the Beatles basically had their entire career in 6 years - Ed Sullivan Show February 1964 - Officially broken up Spring 1970.

And on topic, still really dig this song and always did. It's got a great sing-a-long vibe and love Axl's backing vocals.

I believe Ron also played the first notes of it on a livestream after it leaked. I enjoy it, but we likely will never hear it officially released.
