Whatever happened to the alternate covers?

Recommended Posts

Pre-orders went up for Cover A, Cover B and Cover C but there were no pictures. It sounds like that's what Axl wanted but the record company didn't. Which makes sense, at that point they just wanted to get it out and every with. Weird it'd make it to pre-orders if that was the case though.

The bike cover which was used was taken by someone during the illusion tour I think and axl always said it would be the next album cover since the late 90's I read day back..

Can't say I understand why. It's the blandest of all the designs, and yet the one virtually everyone who didn't shell out big bucks ended up with.

Anyone remember talk about this right up till about a week before the album was released but it never happened Why?

thing is axl and his art directors (stephen relda, michael nagakcam and jeff lebbasi) used the same technique he used for the songs in the album

they blended the covers

yep, they blended all the 9 covers -- believe it or not, but there were actually 9 covers, not 4! -- and they are all in there if you look real hard at them -- or if you read the spoilers below

SPOILERS ALERT

most of the covers (#2, #3, #5, #6 and #8) are mingled with the ground and the wall.

the easiest to notice is cover #5 (the red hand with the little creatures) which can be spotted quite easily on the upper left corner right below the word "guns"

cover #4 is right by its side at the upper top left corner hidden by the inverted-mirror technique -- in which you invert the image and then invert it again and it disappears

covers #7 and #9 are inside the basket

I'd love to have a Red Hand CD/booklet some day, the booklet art is great. I like the Grenade cover (used to have a T-shirt of that lying around somewhere), but the interior artwork is terrible.

Shame these didn't get vinyl releases so the artwork would be large format; would also prefer they didn't have the writing on right on the cover.
