Sort of falls somewhere between The World Is Not Enough, You Know My Name, and Another Way To Die. I like it a lot, very different. Gonna take a few listens to digest, but right now I think I still rank Hard School and Atlas ahead of it. But Atlas has also grown on me immensely, so...

ronartest2004
Best of the leaks so far, sounds like slow funk to me.

But then again, the notes in the SOG chorus sounds very very similar to the notes in the orchestral part of The General that GNR used multiple times as a show intro. Sorry if i'm repeating it for like the 5th time, but with so many posts maybe this or that can be missed. I've just listened to the phone recording again and still believe it's a very different song I just hope I'm right, because I like State Of Grace and I also like what might be The General. Here is to hoping it still gets released somehow. It just feels so damn crazy that we got Buckethead and Robin butchering classic GnR songs when they could have been playing this all along. And now we've got Slash and Duff... and I wonder how they would be able to play stuff like this
nycgunner
Just fucking splendid. Unreal to hear ANOTHER unheard of GnR song. Epic way to start this weekend. Reminds why I love this band and deal with all the “fucking shit”. To all those opposed...

Gimpy Hewitt
I think the weak and whiny vocals in the beginning are as they were intended to be. To me it sounds like the song goes from whiny sad Axl and builds up to mega pissed off rip your head off screaming Axl

One educated guess is that when Brain brought the general on the table, they fleshed it out recycling some ideas from this song. Those guitar notes in the chorus of State Of Grace are strongly similar to those orchestral parts of The General GNR used as show intro. I have the same feeling. Sounds like they just repurposed these notes into what became The General. Not the same song, of course. 3 minutes ago, Lethalis said: It just feels so damn crazy that we got Buckethead and Robin butchering classic GnR songs when they could have been playing this all along. I see no problems whatsoever with it.
jip
Imagine Brain on drums,Bucket doing his robot dancing,Robin walking the way he does all over the stage,Pitman and Dizzy on keys and Axl screaming while everyone is head banging...fuck 4
ronartest2004
After listening again its truly amazing how Axl can still command a microphone when he wants to. Obviously the night he wrote and recorded his vocals for this he was in the fucking zone.

Gunner55
I don't know what's been happening with Axl's Vault (as I've called the playlist on my phone) but I appreciate the fuck out of whatever it is these last few weeks. Really makes me wonder what else could be in there.
Fanboy
What a great song, in term of music Axl's mastering skill is kinda high
DarkLotus1111
The last part sounds like 80s Axl Rose. It's like 80s Axl got sucked into a vortex and ended up on a Nu GN'R song... Lol I'm impressed with this song Edited September 13, 2019 by DarkLotus1111
Popular Post Powerage5
I think this song is a great example of how expectations can affect how you perceive a song. A large majority of CD era songs that have leaked over the years have either been previously played live, exceptionally hyped, or sort of attained a mythical status. In reality a vast minority of these songs were relatively unknown when they first leaked or were released - really only IRS, Scraped, and Better (And even with Better, we only learned of it a month or so before it leaked, but Axl described it as one of his favorite songs which obviously built a lot of hype). Every other song that has leaked we'd heard live, seen titles thrown around for years, heard described a dozen different ways which all sounded incredible. And when you get those things into your head, reality can be disappointing when you finally hear the product. This song we only learned of it's existence for the first time in late July, and now we're hearing it six weeks later. No hype, no buildup, just BAM - a new GN'R song. And unsurprisingly, it seems to have the most unanimous positive reaction on here between this, Atlas, and Hard School - the latter two of which people have been dying to hear for well over a decade. 9 2
31illusions
I can hear record executives back in 2000 knowing what AFD and UYI sounded like and then hearing this.......
dave94
At first I wasn’t sure I was going to like it but it builds up and actually thought it was pretty good. Maybe it’s just because of the excitement of “new” material though, I wonder how a song like this would have been received if it had been released on CD? Anyway all I can say is I’m loving these leaks. I just wish we could hear more completed or final versions (in particular this and Atlas - hard school already seems 99% to me) but I’m guessing at this point in time it’s unlikely unless Slash and Duff redo them, I’d assume though they’d rather record their own songs than someone else’s though

Same with the alternate weak/triumphant verses on Scraped. 10 minutes ago, Gimpy Hewitt said: This leak just made 15 years of waiting for Atlas go fuck itself Haha, yup. I'm bamboozled by the number of people loving Atlas. The vocal on the first 'remember your naaaaaame' is sick but it starts fading out as he transitions higher and higher. Sounds awesome. Imagine him doing this in live 2002 when he had the powerful falsetto/head voice mastered (nobody said Mickey until 2011).
