malco_2001
The only sustainable source of income for musicians appears to be from concerts. At these concerts I suspect 98% only wants to hear the songs that they grew up with. When that is the case why bother with a new album? For what gain? For someone to just steal early versions of it online? Edited September 22, 2019 by malco_2001 Forgot a word
STPGNR4EVER
imagine how long it'll take to 2 albums from now let alone 1??? this is why everything is so impossible seeming with new music yet some people on here will say people who want more than 1 more album are greedy--umm how--so 2 albums in about 30 years when other groups put them out every 2-5 yrs? LA_0013
Judging by that picture earlier in the thread, I think Axl’s been going to the same hair ‘stylist’ as Matt Sorum Axl and the band sounded great BTW - nice warm up show

Atlas maybe a little after. I don't believe either have shown up - Prostitute did in 06 and OMG later as well as Perfect Crime, but never those two. The only time I saw those show up was a unconfirmed rehearsal setlist page a person on another forum posted back in 2011 for the 2011 tour. And of course, the orchestral parts of The General that were played pre-show years ago but was not designated on paper. Yeah, whatever setlist photos you saw were definitely not legit in that case - neither have ever shown up on a proper show setlist beyond that one 2011 post which may/may not have been a legitimate rehearsal pre-tour list of songs. Gnrfan2001
sounded good at spots (rocket, estranged, slither instrumental) and garbage others. Mostly bland its still the NITL tour so maybe unfair to expect changes but it’s so tepid glad casuals are having fun reliving the past nostalgia. Band is cashing in. Good for them hope Axl loses 20 lbs for health but great to see him in good spirits A happy life is more important than anything else hope cd2 is released and promoted to hell bucket and robin and Tommy deserve their hard work to be heard and loved hope for an Axl robin reunion Hope is all We can do

Well in all fairness it was discussed by people here they could not get everyone in the doors in time. They only opened doors an hour before show. The band waited until everyone was able to get inside then started shortly after. I reckon if all those people stuck outside still would have gotten in to find out the show was over an hour in they would have been mad too. So the lateness was a possible venue issue. They got over 2 hours worth and this Is a warm up so it's not unusual for it to be a little shorter but more likely they had to make up the time lost waiting for fans to get inside. The vocals are amazing - I reckon he is a very underrated singer. Hopefully GnR, or really Axl, takes note of the popularity of Tool's new release and the sales, and maybe takes encouragement from it! Popular Post Partyslammer
Just got back from tonights show. To give a bit of perspective, this was the 9th time seeing them, first being when they opened for The Lords Of The New Church back in early '86 at Fenders Ballroom, last being in 2006 during the Universal Amphitheater run when Izzy guested for a 3rd of the super long set. Anyway, tonight's show was good up through about 2/3rds of the set. The last 3rd dragged quite a bit mostly because of the pacing of the tunes included. I'm aware this was a mildly condensed version of the arena/stadium set but I have to say, if I paid good money to see this especially at a crappy stadium, I would have been bored much of the show and probably pissed afterwords. The major thing that made this a good show was the setting (the Palladium) and the band itself. I've never been disappointed musically by whatever lineup Axl has surrounded himself with, hell I thought the 12/19/06 show with Bumblefoot and Co was actually better performed than the '92 UYI tour LA Coliseum show I saw. I got to the Palladium and parked just before 8pm when they were just about to start letting people in. The line wrapped almost completely around the block the Palladium and it's parking lot is on and it took almost exactly an hour to get in. I saw one guy selling a few hard tickets for about $300+ each. I didn't hear anything about a ticket drop earlier in the afternoon. Once inside, the place filled up really quick and by about 10pm, people were starting to get restless. There were a *lot* of trashed people stumbling around, puking in the restroom well before the show started. Close to 10:30, band came on and launched into It's So Easy and the crowd was into it and the band and Axl sounded pretty impressive. Slash especially sounded awesome. Fortus was often so low in the mix it sounded at times like a one guitarist band. I noticed the keyboard chick was really helping on backup vox when Axl was hitting higher notes. What quickly became a weird distraction was *every* instrumental break, guitar solo, etc, Axl would duck off stage into this little black tent on the side of the stage. Often, he'd come out in a new shirt or a hat or whatever. I think he changed clothes more than Stevie Nicks w/Fleetwood Mac. I get sometimes a singer might feel awkward or want the band to have the spotlight but in this case it seemed like Axl wanted minimal involvement on stage if he wasn't needed to actually sing. I dunno, maybe he has a weak bladder or needs to hit the oxygen tank. Vocally, I thought he was pretty decent, certainly not the range of the good ol' days but I've heard worse. I have to say, I haven't been paying much attention to his health or appearance since the very beginning of the tour a few years back so I was a bit shocked that he's become such a chunky guy. Anyway, at least he didn't utterly suck singing like a David Lee Roth or (cue douche chills) Vince Neil. I think the late start the instrumental breaks, the slow and unfamiliar tunes especially after Sweet Child Of Mine took a bit of wind out of the show. People were streaming out after SCOM and the back of the floor thinned out considerably for the last half hour of the show. Still a good show but it certainly scratched the itch to see them one more time. 5 4

Something that let's me vent my thoughts and feelings. Other times I do it for fun, for shits and giggles. Because I like it. I suspect those are the main reasons people do art. They want to and need to. Of course, when you are a professional you need to have a product that you can market yourself with. Like a new album to advertise your new tour. Also, one can be a performing artist without releasing anything new. That's cool too. But making an album has never been as easy and cheap as it is today, so I don't really get all this talk about losing money and albums not selling enough. Plan the recording process carefully, record it efficiently, release it with hardcore fans in mind, market it to casuals and do a tour playing the classics. Not exactly rocket science.
