Disney+

Recommended Posts

I've been checking out Disney+ over the last 2 days. I have been enjoying the content offered.

I have come to the conclusion that Disney+ should be the obvious place to officially stream all of the "Mickey-Era" GNR pro-shots.:P

Any thoughts? :)

The old star wars in 4k look crisp as hell.

Interesting how theyre trying to pass Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith as being in 4k, when they were digitally filmed in 1080p

We rarely watch the Disney channel I have now. Not going to pay more money for another Disney channel. I have tons of channels I pay for as it is.

Like disney needs the money. Please.

With the proliferation of streaming services, I'd be surprised if we continue to see streaming companies continue to provide non-commitment contracts.  It's starting to make less sense for consumers to pay one streaming service on a monthly basis if they can simply kill their subscription after a month of binging and watch another streaming service until the content tap runs dry.

Regardless, everyone should probably enjoy the period we're in now as this won't last forever.  Netflix is tens of billions of dollars in debt.  The quantity and quality of content that's getting produced for streaming services is being financed by stock prices.  If that goes and margin calls come in, expect to see a lot of streaming services shuttering operations.  There's simply no way to offset content costs with current streaming subscription prices in the long term.  As much as the advertisement model sucks and is becoming a relic of the non-sports broadcast television world, it was still a viable business model.  Until such time that companies like Netflix or Disney+ can change $40-$50 a month and maintain subscriber counts I'm not sure how they remain viable in the long term.  At least Disney (and Amazon) have the advantage of other businesses to depend on.

im sure they have access to all the original elements, the least they could have tried to do was re-render the CGI in 4k, or atleast 2k so it would blend in more with the 1080p source video

It sadly won't hit the UK until late March :(

That sucks! And heres me, its available in Canada now, but I was doing my budget a few months back and thought to myself "I can wait until Dec 1 to subscribe, that would be the responsible thing to do."

Fuck that!! Now I cant listen to Star Wars podcasts until Dec 1 either, because they're all reviewing the Mandalorian episodes. Got a spoiler from a stand-up comedian too, already. Never gonna try and be responsible ever again

But March, dang, I cant imagine that.

This app is starting to turn into an addiction for me...

I've kind of run out of things to watch lol. I rewatched Star Wars and a couple of the classic animated movies that I liked as a kid, but now there's not much else that interests me.

I plan on watching The Manalorian, Imagineering and World According To Goldblum each week, but I think that's about it for me.

Honestly Disney +, until they have more originals, is more suited for big Disney fans--reinvigorating their nostalgia, or for parents with little kids. I don't see a big enough draw for Sports or Nat Geo fans. Honestly the Star Wars element is a huge draw, but given the crappiness of the sequel trilogy, how many people are going to watch after season 1 of the Mandalorian is over and they don't have Disney + for free from Verizon anymore?

It would be wise of them to try to launch the Kenobi show before the Verizon deal ends for most users, but unfortunately it looks like that won’t be the case. The Verizon deal expires for most people (those who joined the app upon launch, at least) in November 2020, whereas the Kenobi show is only slated for 2021. Mando Season 2 is scheduled to launch in November 2020, tho. So at least there’s that!

If you like "typical" feel good sports movies, Remember the Titans, The Rookie, and Invincible are all good watches

I feel like I've seen Invincible. There isn't anything on the planet I like less than sports, but I do like a good Feelgood story though :)

This.  It reminds me of when my parents got a satellite dish in the early eighties.   In the beginning every channel was available with absolutely no subscriptions.  It was like the wild west. 😄 You could even get a hard core porn channel, American Exxxtasy, for free. But alas they started scrambling channels and requiring subscriptions.  But it was great while it lasted.

I got it just for new Star Wars, so the tons of other content is a sweet bonus, as is the 4k OT. Havent seen Simpsons in a minute, love nature shows. Anna Kendrick gets me every time so I'll prolly even watch Noelle.

Ive only watched the first two chapters of Madalorian and I'm already over the moon

I strongly recommend The Imagineering Story as well. The episodes have been fantastic so far.

Is there anything worth it in Disney+ if I’m not super into the MCU or Star Wars? Any major sitcoms or such? Haven’t done any research on it yet. Absolutely ready to jump ship on Netflix about Bojack concludes in January.

Anyone having problems? A friend of mine tried to download the app, but it wouldn't show, so she had to cancel it.

Weird.

Maybe it's her phone? She has an android.

I know they had some problems the first day it launched. But those have since been solved as far as I know.

But yes, I am having some minor issues. Ones I wouldn't expect from a disney product.

- It tracks a bit slower than Netflix (at least for me). Once the audio continued but the screen went green which Ive never had happen with any other streaming services on the same device.

- I have to tap the screen a few times just to get the pause button to appear. Same with going full screen.

- Once Im in the Star Wars section and I hit "home" it takes me out of the Star Wars section to the main page. Oddly there is also a Disney icon, right next to the "home" icon that also takes you to the same home page. So that seems like an obvious mistake. I wish 'Home" in the Star Wars section took me to the star wars home page.

- Im also fairly certain that the bookmarks for where I left off watching a show has been wrong more than a few times. Out of all these issues, this is the only one Ive experienced on other services.
