Which cover do you prefer to the original?

As titled above.

Are there any covers you actually like more than the original?

For me it's "Sympathy for the Devil". IMO one of the greatest rock songs ever, I prefer every cover of it to the original. Love the GN'R and Ozzy covers for this song. The original recorded version never "clicked" with me but I do like their recent live versions of the song.

I like the original and the GN'R version equally.

One that comes to mind for me is the Everclear version of Brown Eyed Girl. They took a really worn out song and totally made it their own.

I like all the Grateful Deads take's on the Dylan songbook more than the originals. And I think Rambling Jack Elliot made Dylans' Don't Think Twice his own.

I think its safe to say that Whitney Houston did the definitive take on Dolly Partons' I Will Always Love You. I like Sarah Harmers take on Dolly Parton a lot:

While I really dig the originals as well...

One More Cup Of Coffee - The White Stripes (Dylan)

Easy - Faith No More (commodores)

This Guy's In Love With You - Faith No More (Burt Bacharach)

Speak Now Or Forever Hold Your Peace - Cheap Trick (Terry Reid)

California Man - Cheap Trick (The Move)

Quite a few Zeppelin tracks.. Levee, Gallow's Pole, etc...

And while I wouldn't necessarily say I like it  more, Rage's cover of Kick Out The Jams is spectacular, especially being that the MC5 didn't record a studio version.

I agree, Axl's voice sounds like the devil should sound if he ever sang the song hahah

That voice my god, it's unbeatable

Deep Purple's itself is a cover. This is the original,

Good one, I think I actually knew about this but I must've forgotten. I like this one more than the Deep Purple version, but still like the Kula Shaker version the most because it's the funkiest.

Good question.

Amy Winehouse's 'Valerie' (by the Zutons)

Joe Cocker's 'With a lityle help from my friends' (by the Beatles)

Aerosmith's 'I'm Down' (by the Beatles)

They're all songs which were better when covered imo. Loads more but those spring to mind.

As for GnR: I think they made Mama Kin, Nice Boys, Heavens Door (80s live version) more enjoyable than the originals.

Sympathy For The Devil and Live n Let Die are fucking awful, in my humbly outrageous opinion.

Guns N' Roses' best cover is ''Whole Lotta Rosie'' from the Marquee 1987, b-side and on that Japanese EP. Not sure I'd say it was better than Acca Dacca's but it is certainly a magnificent beast, dripping in raw undiluted rock n' roll.  Let's just say it is en par?

Hate their cover of ''Sympathy'' but then I am a Stones chap.
