I’ll never listen to or support this band again if they ever did that.

People would care so much if you didn't.

I’m just stating my opinion on it.

It’s not even a left or right thing for me (even though I fall on the right wing side of things) - I just don’t enjoy mixing politics with music. I prefer to keep those things far apart from each other.

"I can't ever listen to AFD again because they did a political album 35 years later" - come off it!

No shit. People tend to dislike musicians making political music, usually because it disagrees with their own political views. And as musicians tend to be, by their very nature, left-wing, it's usually right-wing people saying 'politics doesn't belong in music'.

Same goes for Sportsfans. It's always the same and you can see right through their idiocy

That's a pretty dumb thing to say since music has always been political, but whatever. I bet there are some racist bands that you might enjoy though ;-)

I had this conversation recently and we struggled to mention any successful band that hadn't been political at some point in their career. As you say, music has always been political.

I'll have to bow to your greater knowledge there.....I know so little about sports it's embarrassing!

Most threads go down that route eventually!

For good reasons

Agreed.  He lays low and doesn’t rock the boat which is what Axl wants.

Because what Axl wants has proven over and over that his wants have turned out best for the band lol

I think right now would be the perfect time to do a Green Day and make a political album seeing as Axl actually is surprisingly smart in the field and seems passionate about it. Worked for Green Day lets see Axl tackle the Trump administration.

That sounds less interesting than CD leftovers.

I don't want a new album anymore. It's impossible at this point that it will be a real artistic statement from a real band. It's gonna be like the live shows and the books and the merch and the social media shit. No heart, no soul, just another product with the brand name on it.

I don't believe Axl will ever let that happen. Heart and soul is what defines a Gn'R album. The only way of actually knowing that will be to listen to the album. Making a real artistic statement is one of the main reasons of why Axl almost never releases new music imo.

Imo it will be perfect to release a new single/album now. New songs will grow and people will look forward to hear them live...

Yeah, an old show plus a new song (Hardschool) would be great publicity. And I’d pay for that

Exactly. And as far as that Green Day comparison, if GNR was anything like Green Day, none of us would be here.

Bon Jovi's upcoming album will be somewhat political or tackle some issues(immigration for example). If GN'R goes that route, I really dont care, as long as it will not be half or most of the songs in the album. Say whatever you have to say in a song or two and leave it at that, it will not help the album otherwise.

And if Axl should make political songs, he should wait until Trump wins later this year. That would put more anger and passion in his song writing, something we all want.

If there’s a political song, I hope it’s one that eviscerates that Trump clown and his cohorts. But at this point I’d even take Axl singing pancakes recipe - that’s how badly I want something new.

So you're saying it would be best for Axl to WAIT with writing lyrics?? XD

What did Susan say?

"I will say, GN'R have been working fastidiously on some killer new stuff, "I can't say much, but I've heard bits and bobs and it's pretty, pretty epic."

Same here. Axl could sing a song for a recipe about hash cookies like Tool did, and I would buy it 😊

Posted (edited)

I don't oppose a political Guns N' Roses, within reason of course. Civil War is great. Garden of Eden has some of Axl's best lyrics too, in my opinion.
