I'm getting quarantine cabin fever, so why not look at topic thats been beat to death like a Dead Horse;

If you were given keys to the vault, to create a live GN'R compilation, which song performances would you pick? Think, making your own Live Era, if you had to pick the definitive performances.

I'd love to see Nu-GN'R performances on their own list as well, especially since i'm not too familiar with NuGNR performances

The Freddie Mercury Tribute performances of Paradise City and Heavens Door have to be in there. That crowd was pretty amazing and GNR stole the show.

I made my own compilation of what I think are the best performances from the UYI tour out of the ones that were recorded in good quality. Everything on here except for Dust In The Wind is SBD, and I've avoided the SBD performances I consider to have poor audio (RIR, Indiana, St. Louis, Chile and the second performance in Argentina 1993). 

Some tracks appear multiple times because I like them, or because there are multiple strong performances.

As interesting variant: try to re-create the actual Live Era tack listing with different performances. I'd be open to seeing it done with either 1987-1993 performances only, or where any live era is fair game.

Of course hypothetically Id take all of them, but for the purpose of this list, im strictly going for quality. I'm sure there were countless great performances we haven't heard

Yes, on YouTube, before the takedowns there was a video that contained all the "unedited" versions, at least all the ones we had

oh fuck i love all of those... did you by any chance listen to the silver discs of rio 91 and indiana 91? some of them have great sound much better than youtube etc

Not quite the same as making my own Live Era, but I dream of a definitive Kissology retrospective release from the band. I know, I'll keep dreaming.

Use Your Illusion Tour Blu-ray

- the unreleased tour documentary

- highlights from Rio 1991 documentary

- at least one full show from each year/leg of the tour

- include Tokyo as well just to have a Blu-ray version of it, but do it properly with the songs in the correct order

- highlights from other shows including at least one performance of all lesser played/rare performances, as well as soundcheck footage

- riot clips

- modern/retrospective interviews with the big three reflecting on the tour

Perfect Crime has a lot of good performances, but from the bootlegs i've heard, either that intro, the St. Louis show, or the Texas '91 show have the best versions; you could take your pick honestly. 

Dust N' Bones, which is probably my favorite GN'R tune, has it's best performances from the two stockholm shows, I only give the nod to the second night because I think Slash's solo is better.

Rocket Queen was pretty simple, the Weedsport NY show, along with most of the '88 shows, is pretty good. It's simple, keeps the best of the original album version, and I consider it Steven's signature song along with Brownstone. Couldn't help but pick an original lineup show. 

Jungle is tough, considering it's the signature song of the band, I felt like i had to go back to the original lineup. I loooove Matt Sorum, really do. But, with Axls voice, and the touring experience under their belts, I went with a later Appetite lineup show. Although there's dozens of versions of Jungle that could be picked. 

I picked for Jungle, SCOM, and Paradise City, versions that are great, but not well known

Think what I have is Primeiramente de Rio, Maracana XPII and Frans' version of Indiana. 

I think Axl sounded really bad in Rio 1991, and that in combination with the sound quality being very much sub-par seals the deal. Seriously, there are A LOT of audience recordings that are better quality-wise than Rio IMO.

That's my feelings exactly. Both have weird mixes, and are definitely some of the worst proshots we have. It just stinks we don't have more soundboards of great performances in high quality. Hopefully there are more Saskatoons hiding in the shadows 😁

The Rock in Rio sound mixes were always shitty. The 2001 and the 2006 (Lisbon) are among the worst though, with lots of instruments missing, including inaudible guitars.
