There is mention of the song for the Jackie Chan movie in Matt's book, too. Matt refers to it as a song "Axl had" (with no vocals yet), which Rick Rubin (who was very briefly involved) liked. This - combined with what Duff said in 1996 and with Axl's reference to "Checkmate" as "Jackie Chan" (working title) - gives even more credence to the theory that the core of Hardschool (the verse-chorus part) dates from 1996, and also to my assumption that Axl probably wrote it with Paul Tobias, then it was worked on by Duff and Matt, and then reworked-restructured by the CD era lineup.3 points

I wonder if he did that on purpose because he knew he wouldn't be able to come. That's super amateur either way, they should've opened it to whatever date he was available.3 points

Recently did episodes with fans that experienced the Vancouver and Philly riots. I believe these complete my "riot series." Am I missing any? Too many GNR riots to keep track of 2002 Vancouver Riot, Revisited | Ep. 242 - YouTube 2002 Philadelphia Riot, Revisited | Ep. 239 - YouTube 1992 Montreal Riot, Revisited | Ep. 234 - YouTube 1991 Riverport Riot, Revisited | Ep. 235 - YouTube2 points

I don't know why this type of attention seeking doesn't get old for some people. The post in question reads like "I have some unleaked GN'R songs, but I'm cooler than you guys because I don't even care". Good for you, I guess? Most of GN'Rs fans have moved well past hoping for GN'R to release something officially, let alone give a bunch of attention to yet another faux insider who claims to have unreleased material. Like I said, I really thought the community would have tired of this type of behavior but for whatever reason, there's always someone else out there looking for a2 points

It could also be the song that Slash “planted the seed for” in the mid 90s that Richard talked about in 2014. EDIT: just saw that the Richard quote was already mentioned above. My bad.2 points

Great series @Gambit83, just finished Vancouver today. I actually remember those posts on the GNRBar back in the day. We were all excited about reviews for the show and it was deflating reading that it didn't happen. I remember thinking at first the posts were jokes. It slowly became clear they weren't. I haven't been on that forum in probably 15 years, frankly I didn't know it still existed! I always think of Vancouver as the lesser known riot. Sounds like the "Axl was in the air" rumor is true. Would love to know ultimately why the venue apparently decided to cancel the show.2 points

Hey Brando, hope you're well! I checked the '02 episodes last night, I really dig podcasts like that, great insight from those that witnessed the shit hitting the fan first hand. Can't help but agree with the view that there was an element of mystique about the band during the 01/02 period. 4 years is a long time to wait for the machine to start getting rolling again, but I'd still say there was an aura around that period also. Plus, the feeling that the record was going to drop that year was more convincing than years gone past. The '02 merch is the GOAT btw. I may never own the 01/2 points

I think this is purely a case of being off the road and remembering "I did some cool shit". He obviously is all the things you say too, but I think this is harmless... and If we know one thing about Axl it's that he holds a grudge like no other! posting a pic and saying a few words is not going to mend bridges, if there's still bridges to be mended.2 points

Or just change his delivery on some songs and use that voice.. It would be different but still sound good.. I would take that over him sounding like Mickey Mouse..2 points

at this point if there is a new album, im going to be very disappointed if they dont call it "susan" lol2 points

https://www.nme.com/news/music/former-black-crowes-guitarist-marc-ford-says-he-turned-down-joining-guns-n-roses-twice-2858153 I had never heard this before. I know he was asked to join after Izzy initially left, but never knew he was asked to join a second time in the early 2000’s. Based on what he said, sounds like he was approached around the time they were looking to replace Paul Huge and eventually settled in Fortus. I’m a huge Crowes fan, so I’ve always been partial to his tone and style. He would’ve fit in perfectly with Slash in ‘91, but not sure he would’ve fit with NuGuns. Co1 point

You might do a series on GNR fights back. I would love to see a clip of Tommy telling people to get a life and then accidentally hitting the cameraman in the head with his bass. Believe that was one of the Download festivals where people were throwing bottles at the stage. There's always the Trump piñata. You include the Axl rants and that might keep us entertained through the covid pandemic.1 point

Yeah - TBH I’m just bantering. I really struggle to believe anyone would claim to have stuff like that and not even listen to it! It’s possible.......but unlikely. 😂1 point

I have acquired the Queen coloured Vinyl box set, playing the first album now, the sound is pretty good, and the packaging is amazing.1 point

Cool, thanks. But I mean something different. I remember reading something somewhere Marc actually plays on the Pressure Drop EP and is not credited because The Black Crowe didn't like the idea of their new arrival being credited on someone else's record? Or maybe Jimmy Ashhurst mentioned it in some video? Mark's long time friend and collaborator Craig Ross is credited though. EDIT: Oh, they even discuss it in the podcast (around 24:40 min.). Case closed.1 point

I think Leave Me Alone came after the Me & My Elvis working title as a composer called it by Leave Me Alone. I've heard there are versions with vocals named Leave Me Alone as well.1 point

Dude - this could be the unaltered CD2 you have longed for....and you are telling him to wait! 🤣 Joking aside - I hope it’s real and sees the light of day. Personally I would not be waiting to have a look if it was in my possession - I’d be all over it immediately!!! @fear the juggalo2 you have to give them a listen....could be amazing stuff.....or could be dodgy soundboards from 2012 😂.1 point

I’d say highly likely lol. Supposedly he gave them three mixes of the album to choose from. I wonder what the other two mixes sounded like (they were probably better).1 point

I can imagine that Matt's experience with everything involving GnR has been both good and bad for him, so it's not that weird that he is able to recall both.1 point
-
maybe not, but first Matt shits all over Slash, Duff, and Gn'R in his leaked book and then all of a sudden he delays it yet again cause "he doesn't want to come off jaded". This is after he created hype for the book by saying it was going to be the best book cause he got all the juicy details, basically promising he's not going to hold back. I think it's possible the Gn'R camp contacted him and asked him to make changes to his book. It's kinda weird how he can both shit on them and look back fondly on the good old days.1 point

And there wasn't much to contest for Trump this time around either. Once he asked for a recount in 2 or 3 States and it confirmed he lost. Trump should've conceded.1 point

The leaks did not “force Axl’s hand.” Nor did they in 2006. Hard Skool was one of the songs that Slash REALLY liked since it had an old Guns vibe and was a straight up, in your face rocker as soon as the intro was dropped.1 point

yeah i dont think id go if it was 50% capacity or some shit... not to mention how crazy expensive the tickets would be... i mean, one of the reasons i pay the stupid prices they charge already is the crowd energy of a live show... i would not pay 500$ to sit there and happily clap along1 point

I think the most irritating thing about the Europe/USA tours not happening will be another year of the 'album will be out when they can tour' narrative.....from fans as much as the band themselves. The only way that line would stop being a subject of debate was when they started touring again. I was curious about what the line would be if touring started again and no album came! Australia might happen in November I suppose......I'll predict now that if it does and we get nothing new it will be "they need time to get back into touring again, and the audience just want a chance to g1 point

Technically Adler could make his way through the set, but it's the backstage antics that would be the issue... and that's why he's on the sidelines. That's just how it is. As for Izzy, he doesn't want drama and he doesn't want to be a regular member. I think he made a mistake not coming back full time because the dynamic has changed a lot since even 2012 when he guested last. Obviously he wasn't happy with the money, but they could have negotiated and come to a more soothing figure had he stayed at the table. I think it's a matter of time before those dates in Europe are pulled. W1 point

So you're saying the clip circulating of the band playing it is a fake? It sure as shit sounds like Axl to me.1 point

I have some more BREAKING NEWS to add to this thread. This is all CONFIRMED by my sources which I can't reveal of course, hopefully everyone understands. The sky is blue Water is wet Grass is green1 point

Having listened to the sound check again okay, it's pretty cool and obviously real. But it's still all very weird. I guess it's a repeat of IRS, Better and TWAT leaking causing the band to play them in 2006. Although if they hadn't imagine the outrage, they come back off a 3 year hiatus and play the same set. I'd be happy if a new album was essentially cd2. I think Atlas, HS, General etc will be far more interesting then the and crap Slash and Duff have put out.1 point
-
It was probably intended to be included on the soundtrack to a Jackie Chan movie, hence they would refer to it as the "Jackie Chan song". It wouldn't make sense to keep that working title now, which is why it is now called "Hardschool". My 5 cents.1 point

Such a beautiful song I‘m really glad I discovered Beck about a month ago1 point
-
Some people have suggested it could be a track written by the old band, and I think Duff said at one point in the 90s they would have a song on a Jackie Chan soundtrack.. If this was it that would explain why they jokingly referred to it as 'Jackie Chan'.1 point

In a nutshell I think Frank is Axl's boy. I think that his position is ensured by his loyalty to Axl and not his abilities. I feel Axl also wanted to keep Frank as a nod to the previous line-up thus trying to assure that the whole "new GN'R" era wouldn't be completely lost or forgotten. Axl is extremely loyal to people who are loyal to him so as long as Frank doesn't do anything to piss him off he's guaranteed to remain in his position. Even at the expense of quality. Axl has reasons to keep Frank but they don't necessary have anything to do with his drumming ability. That's the way I see1 point
-
People need to stop worrying about Frank’s drumming and worrying about Axl’s singing. No matter how good or bad Frank plays, it means nothing if Axl is singing like crap1 point

I'd say, at this stage, a new album is the bare minimum. There's a tendancy (and we're all guilty of it) to consider GNR as far more popular than they are. To most people they're a two-song band from the past that produce t-shirts aimed at people who 'want to acesorize with an iconic rock shirt' and have little to no knowledge of the band. I'm sure people will say 'that's not true my friends all like them....' etc etc, but that's because we're in a bubble. In the circles I travel in, I'm laughed at for liking GNR. The reality is, most people don't regard them at all. The 'two-song'1 point
