  1. I was listening to Oh My God again and I couldn't help but think about the direction of the band Axl had in mind. I love all eras of GNR and I do really like oh my God. When I stop and think about the content we could have gotten from Axl in the late 90s still in his prime boggles my mind. I know the turn to more industrial rock sound isn't everyone's cup of tea but I am I fan of almost every genre of music. Not just hard rock. So the song is such an interesting look into where Axl was musically at the time. The dude never stopped evolving. Estranged sounds nothing like anything from appetite and I say thank God. Axl started to get into NIN and other electronic bands in the 90s and the band was changing with he times. I don't see this as a bad thing at all. I would love to look back and be like oh shit remember 80s GNR... Remember late 90s GNR when Axl was screaming on industrial tracks... Remember in 2006 when he caught his second wind and started blowing everyone's mind again? Bands having different eras is a good thing. I'm sad we might never hear what he was working on in all these different state of minds he was in. His creativity really is a blessing and curse. https://youtu.be/DzEQNub33w4

  2. If Bucket is a b-grade musician can someone please recommend to me some a-grade guitarists, as they must be incredible. How many pages of nonsense do we think this thread will hit before new music is actually released?! πŸ˜‚

  4. This post reminded me of when I was at uni - we all went into a biker bar, queued up Aqua's "Barbie Girl" about 10 times on the jukebox, sipped our beers quickly then left.

  5. I woukd never consider Buckethead as a b grade guy only bc my musician friends have said that he is technically first class all the way and probably the most technically gifted guitarist the GNR brand has ever employed. however, in my opinion if it sounds good, it is good. and I've tried so hard to get into Buckets music, but I find 99 percent of it to suck ass. it's like the guy would rather find a thousand ways to jerk off, rather than get to to fucking. I'd rather eat the nasty KFC chicken out of his bucket hat POST SHOW, than to pay 99 cents for one of his songs. I think talent and sounding good don't always go hand in hand. For instance the guitars on AFD aren't technically the most complex music ever written- but it sure sounds good- and I'd bet it's a big part of the reason why 99 percent of us found their way on to this board at some point in their lives. I haven't wandered onto a bucket head message board yet. don't think I ever will. doesn't mean he isn't a technically great talent though.

  6. I admittedly know little to nothing about US politics, but looking from the outside in, the impeachment process seems to be the equivalent of criminal court trial where 50% of the jurors are family of the accused and 50% of the jurors are family of the victim, with a 75% majority needed either way. I can't see the point. The system surely must allow for impartial "juror" decisions based on the evidence presented, not for decisions to be made based on the potential consequences of those decisions and / or impartial views regardless of whatever evidence is presented.

  9. Good for you! with this snow the vaccines might be put on hold for a bit. Snow has come to Texas and many people are not happy! I love it. It looks so pretty, but not driving at all today. I read in today's paper that the companies are working on a vaccine for kids 6 to 17. I hope it gets approved. I want my daughter to be vaccinated soon too. That is sad. Everyone needs to get vaccinated so we can slow down the virus. it's not going anywhere and we all need to get it. I saw a parade in Rio with people without masks holding their dogs. Not good since Brazil has the mutant virus now. what is wrong with people?

  10. Interesting! Quite a big contradiction to BBF saying that back in 2014 he knew the band was reuniting...

  11. Ha! I did exactly the same once at a bar in Ireland, where the people were dicks. We put 'Becauae We Want To' by Billie on about ten times then quickly left!

  13. Just been reading BBC news this morning. Am I right that Mitch McConnel delayed the trial until after Trump's presidency had ended, then voted not to impeach because the presidency had ended, then said he thinks he's guilty? What the hell is going on?!?!

  14. In the fans mind gnr were a straight forward rock band. From the moment UYI came out it should have been clear that they definitely weren't going to be making songs that sounded like Aerosmith etc forever. The only reason I say he should have went solo is because of the type of fans that refuse to allow bands to change directions. You dilute your brand and band by saying "oh our fans like this, so we can't do that". Aren't there enough bands playing the game? I much rather listening to a band that's adventurous (on record) and not serving up the same meal each time. I fully defend bands like gnr and Metallica that have taking musical detours. And of course Metallica did their detour without line up changes, we know this! But I'd wager the Slash / Axl follow up to UYI would have been fairly different in places to UYI and AFD too.

  15. This is a brilliant analogy - it's a frankly moronic way to conduct a trial.

  16. Why you killing the Slaxl when it's already dead and buried?? Might as well let it die beautifully in our hearts, ok? OKAY? Btw. Not here yet? You all know it's missing. https://www.instagram.com/p/CK9gMZFFnLH/?igshid=1v5x85tqpgsdv (I had to go through skeletons, monsters and vaginas to get hold of this post. At least some things never really change)

  17. There's Slash. Playing a machine partially designed by Slash, full of images, references and memorabilia from Slash, it's playing a song about Slash's high school friend, also written by Slash. The video is silent because of the song copyright. Laughable, really. 'Never happened, all made up, fallacy and fantasy. Not one single solitary thread of truth to it'

  18. Yeah exactly. That's a 'personal taste ' thing. From what I've heard of Buckethead's stuff I can't say I'm hugely into it either......but it would be ludicrous to claim he wasn't a fantasticly talented player. Would be a laugh though going on a Buckethead forum and suggesting he wasn't much good as a player! See how it goes down!

  19. I've stated this before in other threads. My opinion is that Axl should have explored different genres as a solo artist and not under the GNR name. When you think about GNR, you associate them with a hard rock sound. Right from the get go, they were known as the next Rolling Stones/Aerosmith type of band. It's ok to make one or two songs from another genre. However, changing the sound of the band to try to fit with the times isn't good. You dilute your brand and you don't play to your strengths. GNR should have gone on hiatus while other members of the band did their own thing for awhile.

  20. For band decisions his surrounded himself with second rate managers and people that can do nothing but negatively impact the band itself. People that have no clue about running a world class band professionally and are only hired because they are friends or adopted family members and not because of any skill or experience. That and him hijjacking the band in different ways over the last 35 years. From verbal outbursts, taking crowds hostage waiting hours for a concert, no shows, long term animosity towards bandmates and fans, insighting riots, inactivity on recording and releasing music, purposely not promoting material, no interviews, showing up out of shape, putting poor effort in concerts while on autopilot, the mickey effect..... the list goes on. Looking at all that now. I dont think Axl has a clue whats best for the gnr band really.

  21. Just my opinion man, I’d bet most gnr fans had never heard of bumble foot, dj, Richard, Tommy, pitman before they joined and at that point (01-08) none of them had done anything noteworthy, buckethead is the exception IMO

  23. An awful lot of people make money put of Axl when he tours. No-one makes money when he's sat at home writing/recording. A few people make money out of him if he releases music. When you think about this, the pressure to just tour endlessly must be pretty strong. The other side of that though is there are things (live albums etc) that could be done alongside that with very little effort and some financial return.

  24. He's working some stuff up with Axl, from what I've heard. Steven's playing brush drums and Axl is playing the three strings he plays on the acoustic guitar. They're planning on playing some open mics when the restrictions are lifted.

  25. I would only be guessing, so unfortunately I cannot assist, however, I still cannot believe we have these. I have Atlas currently playing for the 87th time today. It's as life changing as it was that beautiful September morning of 2019.

  26. Slash probably real. I have identical and it was straight from the man himself. I also have Duff's that he signed in front of me, but it is way different that some that I saw in circulation, ie. he used U to get the FF's. Matt probably has the coolest autograph along with Slash's

  27. Loved this As a far-leftie this kinda sums up why I don't speak to people these days out of fear of offending people, but it's also making me realise that I'm always going to piss someone off so maybe I do need to just be myself regardless of who might be offended?

  28. True the circumstances are way different now to the UYI tour era. I don't think it's unreasonable to tour for money, not least because as someone pointed out above, in the UYI era bands toured to break even and made money by selling records. Now it's more the reverse, the records make fuck all money so the touring has to be the earner Also I think they are actually conscious of legacy, plus actually giving fans what they want. People in this forum have developed and given each other a really cynical attitude since no new music has appeared but I think it will for the same reason, they are very conscious of legacy no matter how much it might appear otherwise. And Axl is slow to release music not because he is 'lazy'. There are numerous reasons, probably including: Being an obsessive perfectionist Actually nervous about public reaction to new album (wouldn't you be if you'd spent a zillion dollars and years to produce CD and get that reaction?) Co-ordinating the band, to agree on musical direction A ton of legal issues - that is my guess why a lot of material including leaked stuff hasn't been given an official release. I'm not totally apologetic of the band. I just don't get the constant negative narrative from some in here that goes "I hate this band / they are just greedy / were never going to get an album." We might not but probably will is my guess. Personally I'd prefer a band to have a small, decent catalogue than release a dozen mediocre albums for the sake of it. If it takes time, so be it. Also. Regarding all the tacky merchandise that gets released. That is not happening "instead" of a new album. You gotta remember, the GnR franchise is a huge enterprise run by corporate men who are coining it in by selling crap yes, but - that doesn't mean it's the actual band sitting around saying "I know, let's sell a toy truck." In fact we know that they have been opposed to the selling of tacky crap. One example being from when I met the designer guy from Universal who told me the band were against the inclusion of all that junk in the AFD boxset. But the record company insisted on it.

  30. I can't remember if he said that at a show, but he did say it in an interview: Q: Let's say a fan stopped you on the street and said: "Listen, I bought all your records, but I'm sick of your bullshit. I come to show and you're two hours late, and I have to work the next day. You don't give a fuck about me." Axl: If I didn't give a fuck about them, I'd come out and do a shitty show. I'd come out and tell 'em to fuck off. I'd sit down, sing the songs off-key and just not care. But I do care, and I also care too much about myself to do that. It's confusing to me that people go, "Well, I have to work in the morning." If you were getting laid, you wouldn't be so worried about what time it was. I know it's complicated, but so is getting onstage. And I'm sorry. I try to make it up by coming out and doing a good show and explaining as much as I can about what was going on in my head and why we weren't there. https://www.a-4-d.com/t544-1992-04-02-rolling-stone-the-gn-r-leader-discusses-his-appetite-for-destruction-axl
