  3. Boggles the mind that anyone, let alone Soundgarden themselves, would hear recordings of Axl singing that song in concert and think "Oh man that's great, we should do that with him."

  4. I'm a bit in the same corner. Been a fan since I was 7 or 8 years old in 1988. Lived through the peak, supported the new line-ups, hung around here for all of the madness. At the end of the day, for all of the magic these people were/are/can potentially be capable of, life is fkn short...There are still a ton of great bands putting out fantastic records on a regular basis... As much as GN'R scratches a very particular itch in a way so few bands have & can in my life, waiting for 60 year old millionaires to drop a ten-to-twelve song album based on speculation, innuendo, and what-ifs ain't my idea of a party. It was one thing when there was a mystique around Axl and what this Howard Hughes-esque madman was cookin' up, but, now? If they do anything, they do it.

  6. For me, the longer we go without an album the less I care. Not just saying that to be negative, but there was once a time when GNR announcing a new record would've been near the top of my wishlist in life, but these days, great if it happens, but I ain't that bothered if it doesn't.

  9. Forgot to mention in my show review that Coma as the first encore song is awesome. It works really well in that slot.

  10. I listened to it a few times the weekend it came out.. I give it a 5/10 I guess.. It wasn't bad and miles above Absurd. I just don't care about tweaking CD demos and calling it new music.. Especially after being back together for almost 6 years...

  13. I quite liked Black Hole Sun when they stuck it in at the time, thinking it was a thing they'd do for a few shows as a tribute.......... Definitely one to shelve now.

  15. no, you're correct, Do It For The Kids was co-written by Izzy afaik but he used a variation of the DIFTK riff in a song he released called "Bomb". Back when Slash made that "best Guns record we've ever made" comment, Axl didn't buy it and said it was just "VR propaganda" and Scott thought that some of the work the band did with Izzy sounded like Bad Company so I'm not sure what they managed to come up with. I'd like to hear it, but if it was so great, I don't get why a musician like Slash wouldn't just release it after VR was over. the old shit with Slash that Axl praised is what interest me way more than the Izzy/VR sessions. I believe that it actually has a chance of making it to a Guns album. (what Axl thought could have been the modern version of Aerosmith's Rocks) Axl said that when Slash left he chose not to use any of it so maybe it's actually a great foundation for something worthy of a release and the reason it wasn't used had nothing to do with its quality.

  16. On the topic of CD not feeling like a proper GN'R album: The problem here is the low productivity in the years between Spaghetti and CD. If the band had released a few albums in this time period, with some of the intermediate lineups, there would likely be a more obvious evolution of both lineup and sound. Instead, what we got, was a product after 15 years that was very different from the band's last output. To stay with the evolution analogy, it is like comparing a human to a fish without seeing all the evolutionary steps between. That being said, for me personally the most distinct aspects of GN'R music that makes it GN'R, is Axl's voice and fairly complex arrangements/song structures, and that was intact. I had also paid enough attention to the the band's history to not be bewildered with both sound and personnel. So I had no problems accepting it as GN'R or as part of the evolution of the band.

  17. So now Axl also didn't write the lyrics / melodies to the majority of Chinese Democracy thanks for your great insider info Pele, you truly know it all... Also who cares whether he did or didn't sing his own melody line for looney tunes??

  18. If i wanted straight generic rock, i would pick up the next SMKC album. I hope the next GN'R album has a healthy mix of rock and Axl's epic/experimental shit.

  19. One of my favourite bands is releasing an album on Valentine's Day next year and the first couple hundred orders will get a 'crystal clear' variant, which is cool. I like that way of doing it, rather than offering the variant for sale at a few bucks more than the standard black vinyl. Look at this ridiculous album cover though They released a video for the album's intro and it's a total early 70s throwback... I'm looking forward to this.

  20. No, it was a year before, in 2018 - maybe around the time HoB leaked. That was also when the video takedowns escalated. I had made the mistake to post the link to the director's video on the forum and it was reported within minutes.

  21. Axl sounds bad every single time he's trying Black Hole Sun. It's just not a song for him, not at all.

  22. The video from that clip looked very good, may very well be for a proper video. GNR really need to start releasing official videos for their singles to not do so is resulting in them being punished by the algorithm. Same reason why they should be uploading more frequently (lyric videos etc)

  30. Oh yeah, the amount of music realeased is piss poor and some of the quality control wasn't there. As for court of law, I agree! but when you're dealing with lunacy you have to get out the big guns!🤣

  31. Musically the GN'R version is good, I really enjoyed the Westworld-inspired piano opening to the song. Axl, however, doesn't sound so great on the song. For me, it would have been cool if they played it maybe 2-3 times max rather than keep it going the full tour.

  33. they could play the song and release the video lke the its so easy, would be a legendary move and a smart onw since the vocal range of axl can do justice to this one

  34. You're an idiot if you don't allow your music to be used in commercials, TV, video games and movies. If you think you're going to make any money by selling just CD's, your crazy. Every avenue for an income source needs to be utilized if you want to support yourself in the music business these days.

  37. Ashba’s body of work doesn’t really do anything for me (neither does Slash’s outside of Guns to be fair), but I’ll listen to anything with the red head singing and hope for the best!

  40. I hope the '98 or '99 re-recorded AFD surfaces one of these days, mostly to hear Axl. He sounded great in the second half of Sweet Child.

  41. There’s just something about Axl and Slash (duh). I love a lot of Slash’s post-GNR career, it then even on ancient copied and pasted stuff like this it’s just magic hearing them together on an official release. This single is way better than You’re a Lie, World on Fire, and Driving Rain. It just kicks ass, man
