No.

Axl made a comment before The General at Hell & Heaven "I'd like to tell you why it is a new song, but, whatever."
I don't know of course, but I'd like to think Axl was going to introduce it as "This is a new song, "The General", which was going to be on the follow-up record to Chinese, you'll hear the rest of the album next year"
But I feel like Fernando or some management told him to not announce it.
No facts on that, just my opinion. If your hypothesis is accurate, it was probably a smart decision. Axl doesn’t have the best track record in things he says coming to fruition, especially within a normal timeframe.

My money’s on Fermanager. He could see the shitstorm brewing online with the botched release date and threw in Monsters to clear up the confusion. Can you imagine how said shitstorm would’ve spiralled out of control if we only got to hear The General when fans had believed for over 10 years that Soul Monster was The General?
Sounds batshit crazy but that’s my take.
Nah not batshit, think it’s relatively plausible. The fact it leaked literally the night before release, once the delay was confirmed, I think adds credibility to what you’re saying.

Forget makes more sense because it rhymes with regret. Didn't we get official lyrics for The General yet? I thought it was confirmed there.
According to Apple Music it’s ‘forget’ - makes sense.

They were just part of the Rock Band stems right? The best one for me was the isolated Baz vocals from Sorry. Pretty horrified when it turned out they were auto tuned!

Monsters and something else. Atlas is a good guess. Monsters should be the A side
I also think Monsters should have been paired with The General, but who cares?
Honestly I actually loved the mix of The General into Monsters as one big epic two-part song. Honestly thematically and stylistically they are so similar and I just love the idea of them being one combined song although I'm sure I'd be in the minority with this take.

And a guitarist with a top hat we got

I think he left because Axl refused to promote/support the album.
Actually think his contract was up after the ANZ tour in early 07 so believe he was no longer an employee. Of course I imagine he was first choice but don’t think he was under legal obligation by the time CD actually came out.

Absolutely LOVE the artwork

Just before everyone kicks off - the leaks will be the final product. No changes to mixing or any guitar work

This makes for incredibly hard reading. So sorry Kat had to go through this abhorrence.

Is it possible a lot of people are using the barely audible cell phone clip like a Rorschach test and putting their own wants into it now that the actual track is out?
There are a couple of things somewhat discernable in the clip such as some lead guitar parts, and the bridge vocals now that we have the original and can laser-focus on Axl's vocal part, however the comments going "man the early version sounds way better" do make me wonder, because its still just a barely audible clip to my ears lol
It’s definitely much easier to make out now we know the structure of the song. I admit the first couple times I heard it when it originally leaked I thought it was mangled garbage with only a few discernible moments.

Wow, I went onto Setlist.fm to see the set and saw it had "The General" so naturally I was like "yeah...sure!"
Just seen the videos and must say I'm incredibly impressed by it! All things considered, Axl nailed it. Bravo.

Just to be 100% clear, you guys seriously like these tracks, right? It's not more of a "I'll take take what I got, I guess" reaction? You listened to the leaks and you genuinely enjoyed them. It's not a joke or a meme or something? Can you confirm?
Can confirm

Those were for Seven. Not The General.
You’re absolutely right - just went back and listened to the clip with Brando and his great work on Appetite for Distortion. Cheers for clarifying!

Wonder what happened to the samples from Ben-Hur that Brain mentioned in the AFD podcast? Imagine it went the same way as some of the sampling on Perhaps…

Where'd the rumour come from that The General was about Tommy or a tribute or something? I saw that over and over on various forums.
And then we get this weird ass shit
It was a loose connection based on the fact that Tommy’s nickname at rehearsals was ‘The General’ because he was basically the MD.

Huge fan of these songs, especially Monsters! This is basically what I expected CD to sound like (before the leaks)
Quite incredible that Axl has been sitting on these songs for 2 decades, isn’t it?
Must admit I do feel quite vindicated always going to bat for Axl and saying that he has a treasure trove of songs.
Bravo! Also amazing how they have this amazing material and still manage to fuck up the release

Is this definitely the Slash/Duff version? I don’t get Slash vibes from it.
Absolutely love Monsters!

You think bands press and package vinyls and other physical products BEFORE they start selling them?
Maybe not actually have them made already but you'd have to provide a forecast - again, this is standard business practice.

Just now, SoulMonster said:
If the point is that the band should have communicated the problem sooner, I would just point out the following: a) they might have been able to do that but we don't know, b) it wouldn't have made a difference, the song would still have been delayed, c) the band don't do communication, and when they try they typically do it poorly.
And you find this all acceptable?
Can you imagine any other business where you can justify it by saying "they don't do communication"?
I will make an assumption here and say that you purchase goods online - why is this any different to that? If you order your groceries and it's delayed the night before with no communication, would you find that acceptable?

Wow! Have absolutely no recollection of that thread or him ever being considered. Cool find and well done Brando.
