It's true. The Stones haven't had a hit song in 40+ years and Axl Rose is about to release an epic masterpiece, which could potentially be the greatest song ever recorded, called the General. Just hoping Slash doesn't screw up the solo like he did in Perhaps. I have zero interest in new Rolling Stones material, but I anticipate listening to the General maybe 1 million times.

    "The greatest song ever recorded"?

You just made wish the song is nothing but fart noises.

When was the PERHAPS EP supposed to ship again? End of October? I can’t even remember. It will be hilarious when my vinyl arrives. I have no way of playing it. I will only be able to stare at side R with “The General” on it. LOL.

I hope it’s released to streaming sites same time.

I need to go to my local library to play it

The funny thing is, it doesn't sound like that in person. Recordings make it sound like he's just meekly squeaking out a thin sound, and that's all the phone and camera mics pick up, but hearing it straight from the PA, you can tell how much air he's actually pushing out physically.

    That's great to hear! :headbang:

It's understandable that stuff gets lost when sound is recorded with a phone and uploaded on Youtube as is :book:

  4. That falsetto sounds thin and shot, but his low voice sounds REALLY good! Especially on Nightrain :headbang:

And on Absurd, Bad Obsession, Pretty Tied Up etc. When it comes to his baritone, there is still plenty of gas in the tank :book:

Axl should use it as much as he can. It sounds great. Vicious, pissed off and powerful.

    That's what rehearsals are for.

Someone should tell Axl that it's NOT cool or edgy to mess around like this on stage instead of the rehearsal room.

How about showing some respect for the ticket buyers?

    Definitely.

Plus I think rehearsing would make singing new songs more enjoyable for him. I do open mics and small gigs every now and then, and I would be scared shitless if I didn't know my way around the songs and it would be embarrassing to start testing shit while performing. (Granted, I'm not Axl Rose nor do I have the balls of a rockstar.) How can you be so nonchalant when it comes to performing your newest single? :shrugs:

And I'm not trying to be negative or shit on him or the band. It's just a shame that they're not quite there where they could be with the song live :book:

  6. Yikes! That live version doesn't do the song justice. Well, the vocals don't. Instrumentally it's fine.

It might sound better if Melissa would handle those "hey hey's" on the verses. I don't know. Axl is all over the place and it doesn't sound as good as it could. They need to do some vocal arranging.

These new songs would be a perfect opportunity to craft material for his current voice :book:

The good thing with all those reactions for Perhaps is that it brings attention to the band, something they never got since their prime.

This could be a turning point form them looking more seriously into releasing stuff. We cant deny Perhaps is their most successful release in a long long time, and all those reactions are just part of that.

Yeah, definitely. Although, they are doing well enough just touring, but they should strike when the iron is hot and try to seize this momentum. It would be nice to see as a fan.

Guys I just dug out one of my Dad's old classical 7" and the B side played for 7mins 15 seconds I timed it. If the vinyl is 33rpm it can hold 7 mins ish...so it could still be a sort of There Was A Time length ish and that be pretty Epic....it has time for a long intro, numerous verses and a long ass solo and coda, so ..

Or it could be around 5 minutes which can feel long, If the song is a slow grinding screaming tune. I want the next Coma as much as the next dude but a great song is more important than length, let's hope for that first and foremost...agreed?

I think 5 or 5:30 minutes could be a perfect length. It obviously depends on the song itself, but you can do a lot in 5 minutes. I'd rather have a tight song that leaves you wanting more, than a song that overstays its' welcome. Not that that has ever been an issue with GnR's epics.

They will. It's just they are releasing both on a vinyl together, as vinyl is 2 sided. Hence the G side and the R side ( same happened with the UYI albums..... )

Yeah. The General will probably be marketed as a new single like Perhaps. It's probably a "B-side" on the vinyl just because Perhaps came out first.

From what I can see regular people are really enjoying the song. Not sure if hardskool would’ve this much praise cause in the end, it just sounds like a washed up hard rock song. Perhaps on the other hand, has that Illusions feel that soccer moms and casuls love and that kind of became a trademark for GNR with NR and Estranged.

    This.

Hard Skool is a fun ditty, but Perhaps hits you more in the heart.

It sounds like a modern Illusions-type song, which is more in line with their progression, age and status these days.

It's a song casuals can take seriously, which I think is a major reason why it's been so well recieved :book:
