  1. I have had this discussion with people before.

Thinking about Cobain first off, I honestly believe his legacy only exists because of a young death, people didn't get to see the extent that his addictions would take him to, and so in the minds of fans and the general consensus he will always be that "genius" who made Smells Like Teen Spirit.

Although I think the worst thing about Cobains death is that in reality it was a tragedy brought on on mental illness, fear and drug addiction that caused a man to take his own life, regardless of what you think of Cobain as a musician/songwriter; however, this entire notion gets romanticized by Nirvana fans preaching about how Kurt was a true musician refusing to sell out and that his death was standing up against the record labels trying to prostitute him out.

Do these people not see the irony here? that they themselves are bastardising his life by tacking this Martyr badge to his death?

But this is what dying young does to a legacy isn't it?

James Dean could easily have been Brando in the later years and Brando would be the eternally young handsome guy had he gone early

Marilyn Monroe could easily be Joan Collins, were she still alive.

It's like it says in Batman The Dark Knight,

You die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain

  2. 10!

saw them at manchester and it was the best gig i have ever seen (beating GnR Leeds 2010 and Aerosmith as my previous favourite gigs ever) got a real long set! a nice surprise (Shacklers) and was on the barrier in front of Ron for the entire gig.

I personally don't see why everybody is whinging for a new album its been 4 years (3 1/2?) Maiden waited from 2006 to 2010/11 to release a new album and people say they release too much. I would love new music (that could be said for 3 weeks after an album launch though) but am not going to complain when i am geting 3 hour gigs

  3. it's similar to the Manchester thing, this security guy (the one that looked like burt reynolds with a grey shirt on rather than the regular yellow) was telling the young girl on my right (very young for the front of stage i was worried they might be crushed) about half way through the show she took a photo on her phone and he grabbed her arm and said 'Turn that off!" despite here being loads of people with flashs going off, and one girl behind me n the que to go in with a DSLR cam that wasn't even questioned by security

  4. I think it is the security to be honest, they hear the rumours and the stuff from 9-10 years ago "he's in my ass..." etc. and then think they should enforce that stuff.

the security guy from manchester kept telling people off for having a flash on their phones, because 'Axl demanded it" I cant see this, because it didn't bother him when he was on stage.

there was also a guy about 4 rows back wearing a Slash top hat

  6. There should not be a problem with either, whoever fucked this up is a tool, Too many headaches for fans following this outfit, why the hell did i have to fall in love with guns n roses, letdown after letdown.

    Like an abused spouse??

maybe it is for an official release? look at Maiden they do an official release live disc every 5 minutes and they sell well enough, a GnR one could be great and help build them up as a band before a new album, everyone is so negative on here

  7. i was on the front barrier, right in front of bumble on the left with my girlfriend and when i looked at the stands during Paradise City, it looked pretty full to me, there were even kidds that looked no older than 11 or 12 close to the front jumping and dancing around at that point.

looking at me ticket now, it does not mention band times, only that doors open at 6:30

How did people expect GnR to be on at 9 when Thin Lizzy didn't finish until 10:08 by my watch?

Did the band go on three hours after the last opening band finished? How long was it after the opening band finished?

I agree that Axl shouldn't be late, but if he was only on an hour-ish after the opening band finished, I really don't see anything wrong with that.

Thin Lizzy finished just before 10:10 and the house lights wen down for GnR at about 11:05

the thing people fail to mention is that THE STAGE HANDS AND ROADIES WERE STILL BUILDING GNRS STAGE AT 10:55!

  8. maybe not disastrous, but i think 2011 was better!i mean just compare the breakdown in YCBM in1991 he missed every other word

  9. Hi everyone,

I am going to the Manchester show in a couple of days (cant wait my last show was Leeds 2010 and they were on fire but cut short, damn Yorkshire) I was just wondering how long the merch stands are open for, I know that with most of the show I have been to in the last couple of years (Miden, Aerosmith. Ozzy. Alice Cooper. AC/DC, Tina Turner etc) that the merch stands are usually open after the gig but i havent been to show as long as GnR have been doing yet or as late.

I want to make sure i get a T-shirt and a program but dont want to take this stuff into the crowd and lose it / get it ruined.

  10. why does it upset you so much that some people don't like Tenacious D? i thought they were okay back when the first album came out, but to be honest, that comedy is boring to me now, i was 14 back then...

I am so sick of going to festivals, no matter which ones i go to, and some idiot will start singing tribute at the top of their lungs only to have 117,000 people finish the entire song! Why? why do people feel the need to compulsively scream those lyrics? it has happened since 2001... thats more than a decade.

I wouldn't mind so much if they were going to play the fest, or it was their gig, but it is just constant. a never ending sea of quotes whenever you get more than 5 people together. this is actually the reason i am not going to download fest, they are playing and it is always full of people singing that damn song, it is like the 'life of brian' of rock music, the barrage of quotes ruins it

  11. the problem being, that everybody has heard Slashs side of the story a million times, now they just believe it, i remember just after Axl came on here and chatted with us.

I was having a conversation about GnR with a guy at work and he was saying how axl had refused to go on stage one night unless they signed the rights over, I tried to explain that was blackmail and that representatives of the band would have taken Axl to court over that, i even cited what axl had said in the chats.

    and he was just like.

"Nah man, everyone knows that's what happened"

When DLR left Van Halen he didn't say a word about his former bandmates for ages and everyone thought he was polite for doing it and they were scum Axl and slash do it and its the other way around

  12. I'm not surprised out the not going afterall, why would he want to? after the 'ambush' quote from a while back.

And I have the utmost respect for the refusal to be inducted, he previously said something along the lines, of not really seeing the point of the Hall Of Fame, and also talking of Brando and not wanting to 'ruin it for everybody'

I agree with Axl completely and if anything this has increased my respect for him and put him up there with anybody who stands for their beliefs.

i noticed the Sex Pistols are in there, sort of against the idea they stood for, no?

  13. i would like to take this opportunity to remove myself from the GnR fans of which he speaks, I am quite happy to have GnR, Slash, VR, Loaded and Izzy and the JuJu Hounds. 5 bands that i enjoy; over the one.

I also understand that people who hate each other working together probably wouldnt work out too well, and really i prefere the current GnR anyway
