  1. well rose cooper, your comparation is wrong.Maybe Van Halen have bigger audience than Gnr in Us,because Us don't want to forget old band. But in every part of the globe sotth america, europe, japan, australia gnr are much much bigger than van halen.

Definitely I remember the VH rumours for Download fest last year and a lot of people were questioning whether they were big enough to headline EVH is credited as having 'changed the way people played guitar' ; in the USA not so much in other places

  2. it just places John Mayer songs on any profile that doesnt list any songs of their own, "The Scissors" has the exact same list as axl.

Also; they could have used a better picture

  3. Listened to CD in its entireness the other day, haven't been paying much attention to the lyrics in a while, but this time I did.

Some of the lyrics are insanely awesome and well written, like Catcher or Prostitute, but most is just plain depressing.

Better is quite upbeat musically but the lyrics? TWAT? Sorry? Everything so cold, dark and depresssing!!!

I think it's impossible to write or appreciate honest and meaningful stuff without also going to a dark place in your soul, but at the end of the day, is that what you want to give to the world, your dark place?

If there is a next record, I'm hoping for more upbeat, positive lyrics to inspire people.

Just have a look at the lyrics of "Breakdown" from UYI II for example and compare these to any of the lyrics on CD. It's another person, another time, another planet. Changes, I know, but should we give in to the dark side or keep striving and let our light shine?

What kind of lyrics do you hope/expect for the next album?

What this means to me is more

    Than I know you believe

What I thought of you now

Has cost more than it should for me

What I thought was true before

    Were lies I couldn't see

    What I thought was beautiful,

    Is only memories

i love the lyrics on CD though i do see what you mean

If the new album will contain unreleased songs from Chinese Democracy session, lyrics will be even more depressing (I think). Here's some facts:

    Axl said in 2009:

(about next album): "What I can say is if you don't like this, then you probably won't like that. Same people, lots more approaches, bit meaner in places and darker in some."

    And in 2008:

(about Soul Monster): "I think it's our most Black Sabbath moment. Sang it on a Christmas eve. Imo the meanest section of anything I've sung to date. Which having said that I'm sure when it's heard others may disagree but we felt it was a Christmas card of unadulterated venom so to speak. I felt a lot better afterward."

i would love to hear Soul Monster

  4. Can the mods close this one too? It's just trolling at this point.

I'm no Kurt Cobain fan. Smells Like Teen Spirit is the only Nirvana song I really know. That said, I feel he deserves a basic level of respect, especially if you don't even know that much about about him. Nobody here likes hearing Axl get mocked by idiots who know only a stereotype of him and and focus on the negative, so it's pretty hypocritical to give other artists that same treatment.

Actually, the Bon Jovi fans didn't bother me at all. That's a completely different scenario though. They were bitching about Axl because he insulted Bon Jovi, I bitch about Cobain because of what he did to his daughter.

    i bitch about Cobain for multitude of reasons;

what he did to his daughter is a big one but i bitch about his fans more often than anything

we have all met th people that think they are a better class of rock fan for listening to Nirvana because "Kurt was deep, man" or "he killed himself because the 'man' was getting to his music and he didnt want to be a big rock star" okay, dont sign the contract then!

Thats probably the thing that annoys me the most about the whole thing because it is far easier to not be a rock star then it is to be one. I have managed to go my entire life so far without "accidentally" becoming a rock star.

the guy was basically full of shit

  5. I like a lot of their music but really dislike his attitude about the whole thing. It's not just his either, Dave Grohl is the same way. They do "Headbangers Ball" and they show up disinterested and giving one word answers , just being pricks in general. Because they were punk rockers and resented being on a metal show. Well it's not punk rock to take the free press and act like assholes, it would of been punk rock to just not of done the show. The whole being a rock star while saying "I don't wanna be a rock star" is the thing that makes it hard for me to connect deeper with their music. As for Grohl, he's quick to say all the time about how Guns became bloated and a joke during the UYI tours with the back up singers and orchestra. Then I watch this documentary on the Foo Fighters last year, and at the end of it it's got Dave and the boys playing with both back up singers along with a bunch of other extra instrumentation. Playing stadiums and releasing hard rock songs with pop sensibilities. Maybe he's realized as an artist you grow to want more from your craft and you evolve to something more then you were before. But don't trash someone for coming to that realization before you did. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be a rock star, it's just so lame when you act like someone is forcing you to play a certain type of music or play a certain type of venue.

i couldn't agree more, although i honestly believe that in a few years you won't be able to tell the difference between foo fighters and bon jovi

  6. http://www.metalhammer.co.uk/top-posts/more-videos-of-axl-rose-looking-like-a-dodgy-michael-jackson/

Some pro-shot videos of a recent Guns N’ Roses show at The Joint in Las Vegas are online, and aside from the question of whether Axl’s form makes us want that ever-rumoured reunion to happen or not, there was one thing on our minds – what the hell is Axl wearing these days?!

Never one to stick with fashion, Axl Rose always manages to surprise us whenever he pops up, and his current stint on the road with the 2011 incarnation of Guns N’ Roses is no exception.

As these videos of the band’s recent show at The Joint in Las Vegas show, Axl is still rocking the porky Michael Jackson/hobo Undertaker look, although if we’re being completely honest, on some of these tracks he doesn’t actually sound too bad. No, really!

just a few questions i have....

why is it that they can only focus on the crap they think is 'amusing' or rather insulting Axl?

has anybody ever thought that MJ and The Undertaker were anything alike? because i feel that comparing him to a hybrid of polar opposites like that negates the point of the argument.

Okay maybe those were rhetorical, however the point i was aiming at i feel is still valid, that last part

"if we’re being completely honest, on some of these tracks he doesn’t actually sound too bad. No, really!"

what a bunch of insulting horseshit! you can guarantee if he said he was reuniting with slash all of sudden the pictures of him would change to some good ones and praise would fall down on him like the metaphorical seminal fluid of rock press fall onto Dave Grohls bare chest each and every day

  7. see the thing is that Jovi will never suck Axls dick nor mine, he is far too firmly latched onto Bruce Springsteens and has been since his career started.

It's odd how Bon Jovi managed to make music that become a ridiculous parody of itself about half way through the first album and has still managed to convince people that this tripe is acceptable music to listen to! I guess there is a lot to be said for music labelled 'rock' yet aimed at menopausal women...

  8. Maybe he doesn't feel it because he's black, who knows.

i dont think black people are flame retardant.....

The US is their toughest market, probably goes for all musicians / bands in any genre - would people agree?

Agree 100%, but I think you also have to take into consideration the number of shows in each region. For example, in November GNR did five shows within a 3-hour driving distance of where I am so it didn't surprise me that the crowds for all five shows were under 8K at each venue. Of course the crowds in other countries will be bigger, they did just one show in Chile and one show in Paraguay and one show in the UAE. The less supply, the more demand.

I don't get that at all, USA is so different from here (uk) GnR played probably 5 or 6 shows within a 3hour drive of where i live in 2006.

  9. i had an mp3 years ago (i think it may have been boston) that somebosy had cleaned up slightly, i assume with Logic/Pro Tools, and that is the version i always think of, because i fell in love with it. my favourite is probably the album version overall though, but Leeds 2010 was awesome!

Axl seems a bit low in the mix so you cant hear him at times, but apart from that this songs sounds amazing! especially the ending when everyone else stops playing and it's just axl

I'm really hoping they do bring it back now

  11. isnt it funny how NME has an article insinuating a reunion and it has a really good pic of axl at the top, but most of the previous articles about him have awful pictures and talk about how he is keeping the name and the 'only surviving member' etc it's like hard rock proper-gander

  12. I think we should wait to see if she's competent before we praise or criticize her.

    i under stand where you are coming from with this, however, just a few things;

    - We know she has the best intentions for the band and for axl at heart and can trust that because if anything in the band happens detrimentally then it will affect her life in the same way.

    - when you say competent whom are we comparing her too? the managers who set up tours without informing the band? the managers who tried to break them up to reunite the old one? the guy who left after a month? the list goes on

but anyway, since she has been managing the band we have had a US tour, constant Facebook updating with info and photos, a decent Twitter feed, occasional Youtube videos, a new website in the making, a TV interview, an evolving setlist to keep to what the fans want (during 3hour shows!) and a band who look happy together are enjoying their gigs and getting better and better.

sounds like she is doing well to me

  13. SP covers SCOM sometimes, they even do some comedy in it ("where do we go... where do we go now... where do we go? In your vagina!")

I love Steel Panther. Crystal Method seems a bit out of place though...

the first time i saw them was at the Sheffield O2 last year they were awesome and for the encore they played Mr.Brownstone and Number of The Beast, seen them twice since at Ozzfest and Download, a really good band who dont get the recognition they deserve because they do 'parody' songs, I think a lot of people miss the point in that they are a self parody, they are not 'making fun' of the Van Halens and Motleys etc they love them

they do a few other other GnR songs too, i saw an interview with the singer a while back where he said he loves how they can always get away with playing covers because people can see their influences or something along those lines i cant remember exactly
