  1. please also note that the 2008 leak of CD alone reportedly cost the album between 500-850,000 sales, and amount that would have pushed it close to Contraband. Never mind the impact of the earlier leaks in 06 etc

Where did this number come from? To be honest, I think only hardcore/people that post on this forum cared or even knew about the leaks. I think the majority of fans only cared when the album was announced to finally be released.

c'mon man, do you really believe that only hardcore fans cared about the leaks?

people were dying of curiosity to hear CD, to see why the hell Axl was taking so long to release the album.

Nah only the hardcore fanbase cared about them

i dont know, it made national news in the UK a few times, in the tabloid press as well as the music press, so people knew about them, and i dont think you can jusdge how many downloaded the leaks but by looking at torrents you could see it was a huge amount then

  2. what editing program are you using? i think it would look a lot nicer if you were to make the sequence a 1.85 ratio, (1080x800 etc) gives it more of a cinematic feel and you eliminate the bars around the edge more easily than the 4:3 ratio, you also go over the 180degree line a few times but nothing thats a problem, a pretty good video there, thanks :)

  3. and if Marc Canter had have come here asking a simialar thing for his book would you have posted with

"READ THE BAND THAT TIME FORGOT YOU LOSER"

or something, obviously csiz wants to make it more personal to himself, i dont understand why you would be so surly with him.

  4. It was 1992 and i was 7 years old, up to that point i had mostly heard my mums favourite music (Sweet, Queen, Tina Turner, Elvis, Aerosmith, T-Rex) which i loved and used to listen to on my own as well, then ITV (UK) showed highlights of this band "Guns n Roses" from a huge gig in Paris, I had heard of them before and recognised a few of the songs, but had never actually listened to them.

Then this came on, i remember sitting on the sofa and watching this band and just being amazed all the way through, from the outrageous juxtapositions of styles and dress senses in the band, to the larger than life personas they each had the fantastic energy of the performance, it was like watching wrestling a circus show and a queen performance all rolled into one. i remember getting of the sofa and gradually moving closer to the TV in absolute awe of this band, they seemed to encompass everything that i ever wanted to hear and i was hooked, the energy of paradise city the slow melodies of Patience, it was all so perfect.

the next week i missed an issue of the magazine i had collected for ages (The animals of Farthing Wood - An animation teaching kids about the dangers of pollution, hunting etc) in order to buy a cassette "Use Your Illusion 2" and the obsession really kicked in, from the opening speech, which about 8 years later recognised in the film 'cool hand luke', to the fast songs i could jump around too (Breakdown was my favourite) then "Estranged" which was like listening to Bohemian Rhapsody but more hard hitting and possibly even more over the top.\

Since then GnR (more to the point Axl the guy that had me fascinated from that first song) has been with me through all my endeavors, whether i am partying with my friends, on the pull in a club or mourning a break up, there is a song for every mood, and probably a tshirt too, i think i have 24 GnR shirts now.

    EDIT

Sorry i will email this too you, i have a lot more to say but i have a tendancy to go off on tangents but feel free to ask me any more leading questions through email or on here should you wish :)

  5. Axl Rose = Anakin Skywalker, I have no idea if Axl Rose is a "Star Wars" fan. On the one hand, I would doubt it. After all, Axl is hardly the kind of sci-fi nerd that would wait in line for tickets and dress up like Obi-Wan Kenobi at Comic-Con. On the other hand, the galactic soap opera that is "Star Wars" could very well have served as an inspiration for some of Guns N' Roses' high-concept and utterly confusing videos from their heyday in the early 90's. "Don't Cry" showed Axl's domestic trauma and battle against his inner demons, kind of like Anakin Skywalker's struggle with the Dark Side and his dysfunctional relationship with his son. "November Rain" showed Axl at his happiest, only to lose everything at the end, kind of like how Anakin seemingly lost everything as he made his transformation into Darth Vader. "Estranged," uh, showed Axl playing with dolphins. I don't have a "Star Wars" parallel for that one. Maybe the Ewoks? Maybe whatever Jar Jar Binks was supposed to be?

so wait, does that mean that chinese democracy was in fact the death star.....

  8. Definitely one of the best songs I've ever heard. Simply amazing.

The only thing that I can see that others may sort of dislike about it is the name. It's odd telling one of your friends to listen to this song and they ask what it is called, everyone's reaction is different. (I know it's sounds like horse hockey, but I imagine lots of people had a preconceived notion about the song by it's name, I know I did)

Although after hearing the song hundreds of times throughout the past 3 years the name doesn't bother me any.

i dont know, i think the name made perfect sense, when in relation to the song although the name Prostitute, next to the GnR logo, would make people think of a prostitute rather than Axls disdain at the record label expecting him to prostitute his own ethics, morales and art for money, but maybe thats the point, in an ironic way to through you off what you thought

Is it just me, or is Prostitute one of the weaker songs on the album?

To me it sounds like an overblown mess with no direction.

i think it is just you, haha, of course there will be others for me its one of CD best songs and one of axls too

  9. When I saw GnR in Sydney a few years ago, Rose Tattoo opened. GnR was due to hit the stage at 10pm. It wasn't until 11:30pm that they ended up coming on. It was a Monday night, so a lot of people had to leave the show halfway through the set.. Pretty irritating!

Apparently the show before that was in Melbourne, and while the support act was playing, Axl was still on the tarmac in Brisbane..

It seems like a common occurance. Has anybody else experienced the poor punctuality of Axl?

It was the Brisbane show, you're thinking of. Guns didn't arrive on stage until 12.30ish. The rumour was Axl was still in Melbourne as Tats N' Baz were playing.

I was at that show, it didn't bother me. I mean, you can sit there and whinge all you want about the band being late, or you could listen to the awesome tunes they played over the PA and have bourbon.

I've been to 9 GN'R shows. They were late to all besides Adelaide 2007 and Sydney 2010. As long as they hit the stage I was not concerned at all.

there are always rumours about where axl might be or why he is late, i remember when they played Nottingham 2006 and the band where late on stage, a magazine posted a review and said the were late because "Axl was having a roast dinner or something" which of course has been taking as gospel by the people of Nottingham and people say it all the time .

When I saw them at Leeds last year there were stewards around the arena saying they werent there and that the organisers were trying to ind a band to replace them because they didnt show up to sound check loads of people believed it as well the amount of people i had to say "have you heard any bands do a sound check? you are in the same field!" to was ridiculous

  10. i might have a mobile phone vid of it somewhere, but the pic freezes and skips frames when there is a lot of colour, plus standing from centre mean i wasn't very stable at all so it will be rather crap if have it

  11. TC i eally like how you start this post by acting like you want GnR to continue as was last year playing gigs etc and that you wish more was happening on the new gigs/songs/vids front, but then in the next paragraph you show your true colours as an axl basher that first post is a stealth cupcake clinic!

  12. just not enough big flashyness for todays kids,i remember Namco trying to bring it back with Tekken minigames but that didnt hit off that well, i loved SOR i remember loads of copycat games that were essentially the same but not as good coming out afterwards, Teenage mutant hero turtles, 2 crude Dudes, haha double dragon was awesome though, i would love for something like that to come back out
