do you remember how Axl’s voice sounded? like rip and hob and 02? or any better?I really can't remember. I know the note he held for Jungle was killer like RnRIII! I also remember his speaking voice was deep as fuck. They were playing Madagascar (I think) while it turned to the New Year and I can still hear him saying, "well, folks, Happy New Years" after the song ended.

A couple more fun facts about these shows: Slash was staying at the Joint and was planning to attend a show, but was denied entry because management thought it would throw Axl off his game. Also Robin did a stage dive and crowd surfed at the end of one of these shows.
Robin crowdsurfed at my show on the 31st. He was rolling around on the crowd for minutes, not seconds.

Just talked to him. Very sweet and egimatic. For the guy who wanted me to ask about his strings, he said he still uses Ernie Ball and probably always will. I asked about his solo album and he said it's not in the works anymore as he's busy w/ Eyes Out. It's up to an 18 person team, he said. The site prevented recording, but some host chick who chimed in offered to take a screenshot for me. I declined because that sounded lame as fuck, so we talked the New Year's show from 2001 for the rest of the convo. He perked up when I brought up those shows and he said those were "exciting, exciting times"

Please, keep us updated. If possible, record it or at least share the experience.

A group of us sat back to back to Duff and his family at a BBQ place in Austin the afternoon after their ACL set. We didn't bother him, but it was very obvious we knew who he was and they could def hear us talking. As we were leaving, Duff gave a very small, but super obvious head nod and smirk as acknowledgment for not fucking w/ him. It was very Duff and pretty cool.

I know what you're thinking - it's a year away. But hear me out.
Would you be interested in starting a campaign to get Guns N'Roses to headline the Super Bowl half time show in 2023?
I think with the strength of this forum and an understanding of how to get the attention of Super Bowl execs, eg through writing letters, and a viral poster campaign in local neighbourhoods, we could convince them to get GN'R to headline the show.
In terms of the three songs they could do, I was thinking Welcome to the Jungle, Coma and Absurd to highlight the three distinct eras of GN'R.
What do you think? Would you put up posters in your neighbourhood? What three songs should they play?
2 of your 3 song selections are probably the worst they could be for national television, but I like the idea!

Tour isn't selling like before. Maybe they'll understand that they need to drum up some excitement somehow?

Didn't read through, but hopefully someone mentioned Axl being a huge fan of Sweet growing up.

How is this a lost track? I’ve had this since it came out and so have a ton of others.
Guess you should've made a post about it.

Out ta f'n get me!!! I was out to get me a break after that! No way I could go right into NR after getting my ear blasted by that energy. Wow.

It's not quiet on the video front. That 3 song clip came out like a week ago!
-
Everything gets locked but this thread? Okay. Anyway, podcast was fun.

Strong performance from the band and especially Axl. About the same set we got at ACL. Festival sets are shorter and tighter. Should take this philosophy to their own tours.

All the videos are gone now obviously but I don't remember seeing anything I'd refer to as "zipping about".
I get that he's aging, but to say that he's putting all the effort he could into his GNR performances is just false.
And i agree wholeheartedly w/ that, but you said bare minimum which is as close to zero as you can get and get away w/ it. I wish he was still a lit, fit motherfucker who could usher rock back to the top, but time has taken its toll.
I wish he switch out all the preparation he used to do for some balls. Throw out some new music, release his memoir, kick someone's ass, not perform Black Hole Sun ever again, etc.

Dude, i'm talking about high notes. In this songs there are SOME higher notes, but if u listen carefully there are some kind of "Echo/Effects" that are layered to Axl voice that are helping to hide the cracks there appear in these short moments. This NEVER happened before.
But there's no way to cover the damage in his voice in songs there are FULL of high notes, like This I Love, Out Ta Get Me, My Michelle, Prostitute. Guess what, these are songs that they dropped out of setlist.
Being able to "scream" a high note it's not the same to "sing" a high note. You need the ability to control your voice, and Axl seems to have lost that, at least in this higher registers. In the low zone, like in The Seeker, he's capable of singing in tune just fine.
I could not agree w/ you more. Dude just got old. The expectation of him as a performer w/ his old style of singing is nuts.

He has zero accountability in GNR and that's why.
In ACDC, Angus and their fans would've lost their shit if he didn't try. In GNR, he's surrounded by yes men up to and including Slash & Duff. On top of that, people have shown worldwide that they'll pay Axl for the bare minimum effort.
So... Zero accountability is the answer to why he doesn't try with GNR.
I absolutely disagree w/ the "bare minimum" theory. I saw him w/ AC/DC in Florida, just saw Guns at ACL a couple months ago.
The biggest difference between those two shows is that Axl Rose barely moved for AC/DC and zipped about for Guns. There's an expectation of movement expected of Axl w/ GN'R that he hasn't been able to move past.
When I see a 60 year old guy running and singing and pouring sweat, bare minimum is removed from the equation for me. Dude is just old and doesn't have it like he used to.
I'd always pick Axl singing over Axl screaming, but that's just me.

To each their own. I don't mind this guy.
Has anybody seen a video w/ a vocal coach watching a newer Axl video? I'd be curious to hear their thoughts.
-
I couldn't pick a whole setlist. It started to hurt my brain.
1. Open w/ Jungle - It's So Easy - Nightrain
2. Play Hard School, Atlas, and Oh, My God
3. New covers, please. Ruby Tuesday, Little Willy, throwbacks that Axl could kill
4. End the set w/ Paradise City.
5. Encore opens w/ Chinese Democracy and ends w/ Rocket Queen. Alternates in the middle.
These are just my thoughts. . .

I did add spots for 5 "New Songs" and a lot of rotational spots. Couldn't only do 20 songs either.. There are other songs I would like to see as well (Breakdown/Fall To Pieces/One n A Million) but I had to stop somewhere.

I saw the last performance of Oh, My God. One of my top 5 GN'R songs. And I can't remember a single note of it and the audio/video never leaked. Bittersweet!
