There is no evidence that Monsters was ever planned or forthcoming in 2023. It was never advertised on the vinyl nor the Japan exclusive CD. The hidden track nonsense were folks grasping for straws.

The only reason fans think it was are because the two songs leaked at the same time (and not as one song) AND The General is legally registered as “The General and Monsters”. 
 

We are very fortunate to have gotten Monsters (if it’s even called that) after years of the party clip, and I do predict it will come in the next batch of tracks, but the mystery surrounding its leak is still.. a mystery. It’s either a trade gone wrong, a hoarder getting fed up with The General release delay, or an inside job to create interest. Either way, I’m glad we have it now.

Remember how hyped this forum was when Perhaps vinyl was announced with TG. I wonder how much the holy shit factor of this being heard without leaking first might’ve made the song any more enjoyable for some folks.
 

TG has grown on me a ton since the leak. Yes, it’s repetitive but it kinda works for the subject matter, however you wanna read into it.

Was there confirmation that Monsters is on the Japanese CD? someone at Evo is claiming that.

It looks like we are getting the leak pretty much for TG, hope to be wrong just a little bit. A longer orchestra intro would be nice, but I’ll just take a clearer mix at this point.

I’m starting to think the two songs leaked as a result of a hoarder trade gone wrong(?) where both parties thought they had The General, but one had Monsters (which we all thought was TG).

Just purchased both the Hard Skull SHM-CD and Perhaps SHM-CD from CDJapan to get some minor discount. Not sure if I should cancel my Perhaps vinyl at this point, but I'm wondering -- where are you guys playing CDs nowadays? lol

My MacBook doesn't have a cd slot, my PS5 doesn't support, my car doesn't support, etc. Cheap CD player? Apple USB Superdrive?

I’m sad that Monsters leaked and may not be getting an official release imminently. Hopefully it is part of the vinyl or is plopped onto streaming by Dec 8.

2023 has been a pretty good year for us I must say. We didn’t expect a Perhaps music video, or The General. Or some of the deep cuts played live.

if the band does take 2024 off, I hope an album or another twofer single is out, even if they don’t tour behind it immediately. The soonest they could tour in 2024 is the summer, after the Slash tour ends in April.

Actually, update: wtf is going on because the version i have, i got from youtube when it was up for like, 15 minutes.  I saved it, extracted the audio and it was like, 4:25 I thought.  NOW, however... I've just opened it on my Macbook in Apple Music for the first time and it's length has somehow... changed????  Changed to the longer version???  And I swear to God the quality is... better???? Am i going nucking futs here or something orrrr.... idk, is there some sort of confusion/ambiguity, etc. about the length, two different versions, etc.?  ---- and why just now, when I skipped ahead in the song, did I hear absolutely nothing; yet doing the SAME EXACT THING I JUST DID, A SECOND TIME, and the song plays?

Originally leaked as two separate tracks. Someone added Monsters to the end of The General and tweaked the audio a bit. That’s probably the 9 minute version you have.

i figured Atlas is going to be one of the tracks Slash and Duff tinkered with and the pattern for the last 3 years has been 2 tracks every 2 years. Monsters has come out of nowhere, so I coupled the two together.

point being for me, tonight is irrefutable evidence that despite the legal name of the General, Monsters is a separate track altogether. Therefore, we shouldn’t expect it with the Perhaps vinyl.

Damn, The General really is a grower. Wasn’t a fan at first, but after the tenth listen or so, I find myself humming “Daddy don’t” parts and even the chorus (which is better once you figure out some of the lyrics)

I can say both pieces are great but together they are a masterpiece. I’m just not sold on the “don’t know what to tell ya now” parts lol
