IT wasn't just a new movie former Neighbours starlet Nicky Whelan got to premiere last night, she debuted her latest love - Guns n' Roses guitarist DJ Ashba.

At the red carpet opening of crass comedy Hall Pass, headed by Hollywood funny man Owen Wilson, the renowned men's mag cover girl revealed her rocker boyfriend of six months.

"We met through mutual friends and it's been on ever since," she told Confidential on the Fox Studios ruby rug.

The guitarist, real name Darren Jay Ashba, said he gave Whelan a pig for Valentine's Day, which they called Crackle. "We did have a pet tarantula and I had to get rid of my snake when I left Australia," Whelan added.

Wearing a frock from Dannii Minogue's Project D, Whelan, who previously dated US comedian David Spade, said working with director duo, the Farrelly brothers Peter and Bob, and Wilson was "so comfortable".

    Did Axl authorize this appearance?

Not sure but rumor has it he authorized you being banned from this forum.

    Pot....meet kettle.

How original! Thanks for using my quote.

DJ Ashba is great and you know it!!! Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

I met Darren once backstage...but I thought he was Pete Wentz and walked right on by.

I met him once too, had a quick glance, thought it was Slash, went over for an autograph then realized my mistake and kept walking.

  3. gag order

Really? So if there is a gag order in place, what punishment is there for band members who “speak out of turn”? Surely a third breach of policy (Dj) would result in removal?

Perhaps this is the context of the Axl emails referring to the sueing (or firing, can't remember) of DJ Slashba - he might have said some normal stuff to the fans that Axl didn't agree with.

  4. Tommy Stinson was interviewed by WMMR in Philly prior to his Feb. 18th show. He says when asked about the status of Guns N' Roses:

Tommy Stinson: Ya know, at some point I think it'll go back out again. I don't really know. There's talk of doing a United States tour. But at the moment, there's nothing on the books. I don't really know -- I'm waiting to hear. I stay causiously optimistic and guarded about that one because I don't want to be the guy that says, oh yeah, we're going to do blah, blah, blah and then nothing materializes for a year.

He also talks about releasing new solo music in May, The Replacements, touring, getting stuck in London and more.

Thats cool, I'm good with that answer.

Yeah, he's said nothing that would upset Der Fuhrer.

  5. I think Axl was the ringleader in destroying the band but he's not 100% at fault. HOWEVER, him taking ZERO responsibility for the breakup is what is so fucking insulting. Does he actually expect people to believe that? That he was the victim and had nothing to do with it?

  6. Axl is the victim, you're right. I quit.

Slash never did anything wrong in the breakup. He is utterly without blame. Not even 1% of the blame goes to him.

He was a child-like, sweet victim who lives but to make people happy. He has the heart and kindness of a young child. Axl, the greatest bully in world history, held a gun to his head at every opportunity. Slash is Jesus Christ reborn, born without sin. He has never done a single thing wrong, or made a single mistake. I am sorry for my heresy. I forgot that every time Slash opened his mouth, Axl secretly was holding a gun to his head and forcing the words out of his mouth.

    First of all, welcome back.

Second, Axl wouldn't even talk to Slash or show up to rehersals at a normal time. He was disrepectful and had a huge ego. Axl has never taken responsibility for anything. Nobody's else's time is important.

where do you get these assumptions from? where you there?

There are numerous accounts of this in the SPIN magazine article from '99 which I still have ("What the world needs right now is Axl Rose"). Not to mention the separate dressing room, separate flights to shows, disappearing off stage.

I mean, are you going to blame Izzy for quitting the band in '91? He couldn't fucking take Axl anymore. It had to be pretty bad if his boyhood friend leaves, just 6 months into the tour. Slowly everyone has left Axl's side, leaving him completely alone. Why are all the guys close with each other except Axl? He's the only dick crying in the corner saying "woe is me, lemme go write Sorry to make myself feel better". Grow the fuck up, time is passing you by.

I never said that, I just want the dolts that believe Axl did nothing wrong leading up to the GNR breakup to wake up and realize he had plenty to do with their demise. Even the guys now can hardly work with him or count on him. But they're afraid to say anything so we've only heard bits and pieces. What kind of scolding did DJ Slashba get for announcing a tour of the states in Feb? We've not heard hide nor hair from him about it since. Only a denial from Axl that there were never any concrete plans for a tour (whatever the fuck that means).

When is the dude going to take some accountability for his actions and at least show some level of respect to the fans?

  8. I thought Axl dumped Stephanie because she cheated on him and she was doing drugs in front of little Dylan?

I always wonder if thats the REAL reason we won't ever see a reunion.

    Catch my drift?

Just a theory...nothing to base it own, but with the animosity that Axl still holds against Slash, I can only wonder if "it" is more personal than we think.

I think it is beyond personal.

This to me would be the only justifiable reason for him to still be pissed at Slash after all these years. However, we see them having a good time and embracing after several shows post-Stephanie so I don't know.

  9. Axl wouldn't do it because he'd have to show some respect and actually perform on time.

Lets see. Do I want Ron Thai, or do I want an over the hill Jim Hendrix wannabe who plays on stage with a chick who looks like a dude with a wig on?

I mean come on! His fucking hat had rinestones on it! gtfo.

Yes that was pretty ridiculous looking

    axl-rose-cp-8853620.jpg

And Axl's wearing a gay biker mustache, EYE LINER, and a bandana from 20 years ago.

  10. I kinda wonder why Axl was so dead quiet during those years...Why he didn't go to a single public event from '94 to '00.

    Hair Transplant!

    You whore.

That's definitely part of it (not all), though he didn't have it done until '97ish. The reason one can make this claim is because of his Sedona mugshot....that is...how thick his hair is in front - unnaturally thick. It's markedly different than just 3 to 4 years earlier when we saw one of the last public photos of him (Springsteen show in '94). Stories surfaced that his first procedure around '98 was botched and that caused an additional delay to him resurfacing. He was originally to do some shows in the late 90's but it wasn't until '00, after he had his hair correctly done, that he finally showed up.

You'll also note that in the mugshot pic his face is still very natural looking - like that of a normal mid 30's man. So in my estimation (and I know I'm not alone), the '98-99 years were post transplant but pre face-grind. The LA Lakers interview not only scared me, but proved that he had some sort of procedure done to his face.

Again, more power to him if he wants to improve his appearance, I just can't get over how some people on this board continue to believe he had NOTHING done to his hair or face....laughable.

im more interested in the 2000-2004 era.

Well 2002 never happened, so scratch that year off the list.

LA Lakers Video = Crappy video quality.

Besides, his hair looked thinner in 1990 than it did in 1993.

What strikes med most about the LA Lakers video is Axl's manners and body language. He is so shy, insecure and polite. It's really hard to believe it's him just because of that. I guess it tells something about how he had changed during those tough years. Other than that he MUST have had some botox or something. He looks like a kid, younger than in the 80's! Although I'm not sure about how much of that is due to that impression is due to body language. His eye brows are missing though, that's a bit weird.

It's due to the low quality of the footage.

The whole footage, not just Axl, is a bit muddy. Therefore, stuff such as lines on the face, eyebrows, etc, aren't as clearly defined as they would be.

ha ha ha you kill me with these excuses...the video is from 2001 for a network affiliate, not a 1985 VHS tape that some superfan made. The dude had work done, including the apparent removal of his eyebrows and sideburns.

If you're still not convinced, look at any video or picture from '02...same shiny face, same hairplugs but with fake cornrows.

  12. I wonder what happened to the whole 'post your questions to band members and the best questions get video responses'? I thought that it was a totally cool idea and it'd be great to have something like that when Guns are off the road, sort of a band-fanbase 'bonding' thing. We never heard anything about that, once the questions were posted. It wouldn't be very hard to do, since most of the band members twitter anyway every day and it'd just take a laptop video camera and probably an hour or so worth of reading to figure out the questions that are worth answering (because most of them will probably be like: 'So DJ, what's Axl like? or 'Bumbles, how are things with Axl? or 'Dizzy, what's it like being in a band with Axl for so long?'...you get the point, but still I bet there'll be great insightful questions too)

Here are all the answers you need to know:

From Axl: "It's complicated, you've been lied to by everyone except me, and it's everyone else's fault"

From band: "I can't discuss that right now"

  13. How bout this. Slash is responsible for the great SCOM riff and Axl gets credit for wonderful lyrics and a great vocal? Together these two make the best rock ever. I mean c'mon people. They made great music together and we are nitpicking here. One of my favorite GNR stories is when all five of them were in a van and they made up Paradise City. Or walking down the street loaded on Nightrain making up lyrics. These are great legendary stories.

    Nice sig pic
