People on this thread keep referring to this as Axl’s first time recording vocals in 15 years… Did we just all suddenly forget that Rock The Rock exists?
We try our hardest.

But he could also record this track for Schenker in LA. And he could also have recorded anything with Voss in Germany before. Maybe Axl needed in London because thats where/when his "muse" appeared. Also, wasn't Axl in France?
I'm not saying this is for a GNR song for sure, I'm just pointing that it's still a possibility, albeit unlikely for the time being.
It's not unheard (pun intended) for Axl. He did the same thing with Sebastian Bach.
The muse kisses him and he has to fly to London and fly in an engineer from Germany, because there are none in London? Stop grasping at straws. It's clear as day

True but you'd think he might like to be considering it'd be a huge coup for him. I'd want to be there to experience it myself..
Schenker doesn't quite think like that. To him, he is the big coup.

Like I said before, we don't know if that was just because Axl needed a studio and Slash pointed him to Metropolis after his own experience with Voss.
I was wondering why Voss, why the urgency? It totally makes sense that he recorded for Schenker and the first Axl release in 15 years will be with someone else. Forget him recording in London for GNR.

Well that’s an interesting way to approach a discussion forum, or to have a discussion in general. “I am right because I say so and everything you say is irrelevant.”
When we have on one hand, what Steven Adler said and on the other hand what you said, then yes. What you say is irrelevant. Steven thinks like that. Anything else is irrelevant.

Your point was that they were disrespectful to Steven for only letting him play one song - I disputed that and gave you reasons why.
Then you said “he’s done with them” or they “blew it” with him because of how they treated him. And I’m saying, due to his general personality and the current state of his career, this is also likely untrue: I’d bet a year’s salary that if they offered him the opportunity to play Reckless Life and Rocket Queen in Hershey, he’d drop everything and do it.
Though I’m also tired of it. Let’s be friends. I hate taking in circles. So tell me, which song do you think they’re releasing next, THE GENERAL OR SOUL MONSTER?!
And here you go in circles again. They were disrespectful, they blew it, he's done with them. He said as much after that South America incident. No reason to not believe that. And nothing you say further or believe in that regard is relevant.
And really, I don't care which song they release next, whatever happens happens.... or in this case, doesn't happen.

I wonder what makes a person contribute to a message board and then say “I’m not gonna read what else you all have to say.”
Because it's irrelevant to my original point (and the original point of this thread), all goes in fucking circles and has been discussed a thousand times already. And I'm tired of it.

Who cares? You clearly. Just because he's a founding member, it doesn't mean he has a right to be there. He doesn't. He's a former member with nothing to do with the current band and he's lucky he gets a birthday shoutout, let alone a handful of guest appearances in-place of someone who justifiably earned his place.
Sorry, but it's exactly that – a work place. It will be run exactly like any other business.
And you clearly have no idea how the real world works. It has nothing to do with Frank being there to step in. Frank's drumming isn't going to pay medical bills, it isn't going to cover lost earnings in the event of something going wrong etc. Every single person working at those shows will be insured, from caterers and riggers to the band itself. You, no doubt, get travel insurance when you go on holiday, your home and car will be insured too, right? But you can always just get another if something goes wrong...
Nah. I don't. I also don't care about any of the shit you all have to say. It's irrelevant to my original point, which is, just like Izzy, he's done with them and they blew it. Not even gonna read what else you all have to say.

But he's not in the band. It's as simple as that. There's a reliable person in the position he once occupied.
We need to look at this practically – we might be fans, but at the end of the day the band is a workplace like any other. If you depart a job and your longstanding replacement fulfills the role reliably and without issue, you can't pop back to the office and expect to waltz back into your old role when there's no reason, from a business perspective, to ditch the current guy.
Whether he or some fans want it or not, he simply isn't in the band. Deep down he'll know that and accept that. The odd song here or there might seem like a bummer, but a few short years before that, that would've been absolutely impossible. He should be, and will be, thankful the current band acknowledges him and gave him those guest appearances at all. Not all bands would be as gracious. It's not like he's Axl or Slash either. 95% of concert goers won't give a damn about who's drumming – even Frank will acknowledge that.
As for the insurance point, money could be irrelevant. If a company flat-out refuses, there's no amount of money that would help. Even so, spending a lot of money to pay, insure, feed, house, and move someone who doesn't need to be there is a horrendous business decision, regardless of how much you're making. It's unnecessary expenditure.
Who fucking cares whether he's in the band? He's a founding member, as far as AFD is concerned and fans would love to see him. More than they would like to see Frank do the Appetite songs. Axl had Izzy guest on pretty much all of the 2006 european tour, when he needed some legitimation to his new line up, kinda like "See, Izzy approves and plays with me. I'm not the bad guy.". They could have easily done the same with Steven and have him play at key shows. And he would have done it. He did do it, until they reduced his playing from 2 to 1 song. As if it would break anyone in this band to let him do some Appetite songs.
And it just isn't a workplace like any other. It's a workplace, but not like any other.
No one needs to be insured, if he just is an additional drummer with guest spots. If he can't play, nothing is lost, because Frank is there.

First of all I don't buy for a second that Steven is over being in GNR. And secondly how were they disrespectful to him? Obviously I'm open to changing my mind, but I will point out that I don't think that the red carpet should've been rolled out for him. He's been a junkie for over 30 years (around 25 when the reunion first happened) and sad to say, I'm not sure you could find many junkies you'd be able to trust to play a prominent role in a huge rock n' roll tour with millions on the line. It just isn't feasible. If for instance Steven were THE drummer (instead of Frank) I have to wonder if the tour would even be able to be insured.
What you believe or buy, really is irrelevant, but to fly him all the way to South America and them let him play 1 measly song and then let him sit on the sidelines, when he's more than capable of doing more and the fans clearly want to see him, is more than disrespectful. He gave an interview afterwards talking about it and it's clear, he's done with them. He never made another appearance with them again. If he still would be clinging over GNR, he never would have done that interview and taken every chance he could get to play with them again. And GTFOOH with insurance. That tour is making so much money, they easily could afford to have both Frank and Steven on (or at least have him for significant guest spots here and there).

Hmm. What if Steven and Izzy DO decide to come back to Guns N'Roses and the "Newer ," Guns N'Roses Members, Melissa, Richard, Dizzy, and Frank aren't comfortable having them back. Or worse, Axl automatically kicks out Frank,, Dizzy , Melissa, and Richard for Steven and Izzy? All of the "Newer," Guns N'Roses Members have been there for YEARS and would be beyond resentful if Axl suddenly kicks them all to the curb just because Steven and Izzy are back. 💡
Steven and Izzy can decide all they want. None of that is going to happen. Axl won't allow it. Axl is loyal to his people.

Nah. He stopped caring about (being in) GNR, when they flew him down to South America and only let him play one song and were disrespectful to him.

maybe he smiles only when he really feels like smiling, like he doesn't want to fake a smile (just a guess)
he also seems to not really be that into taking pictures, but who knows cause he keeps taking them without smiling.
Yeah. Both times I saw him in Budapest he absolutely was against photos. And we were less than 10 people both times.

you know I think what Blackstar said about it is likely. I know some people who don't smile while they get their picture taken. I guess what confused me was that in the past he did smile while people took his picture. Maybe now that he's older he just thinks it looks better without smiling, I really have no idea.
He smiles before and after the picture. Just not in the picture. Yeah, I guess he has a problem with his smile.

I was considering this too, and I'm glad someone brought it up. This is the part of the reason I think the band themselves pushed to a do a bunch of stadiums this time around, even if they knew it wouldn't be full. They still get paid more for stadiums than they do arena shows, and if the show doesn't do well then it's not their problem at this point. However, there has to be a reason Livenation agreed to this arrangement. They wouldn't put so pay GnR so much money without being sure they'll make a profit too. And unlike with the concert in the Netherlands, none of the US shows have downsized due to lack of ticket sales, so they must be pretty confident.
Maybe the breakeven point for these shows is much lower than we're thinking. Once you combine merch sales with the inflated ticket prices when they initially go on sale (not to mention how low budget GnR's stage show is overall, with the lack of pyro and set pieces), the stadiums might not need that many tickets sold to make a profit for livenation in the end.
A band doesn't get to push anything. They get booked to do a show. And no promoter is going to book them into an stadium, when there is a huge financial risk for them or they are not confident it's gonna work out. And I doubt that they get paid more for a stadium performance than an arena performance. They might take an additional cut from tickets sales, but the performance rate should be the same. But yeah, obviously a sold out stadium is not needed for it to be a financial success. If they sell 20,000 I guess they are good too.

Probably the other way round
They blew it with both. They were in contact with Steven, but after what happened in South America he pretty much told them to shove it. I don't think either of them wants to be in contact with GNR anymore.

Well, Fortus liked my comment, that maybe he will invite him to a Guns show to see him play. So somehow I hope that happens.

Is Brian Johnson the new guy in AC/DC for you as well?
Nah. But you don't really want to compare Brian Johnson to Richard Fortus, do you?? The Brian Johnson who sings on the biggest selling AC/DC album. And yet, to some die hards even Brian Johnson is just the replacement.

Oh, well. A typed thing could also come from a PR guy.

Yeah, I wasn’t a fan of his long legged multi layered ripped jeans and braid rimmed hat look. And his boots were awful and made him look awkward on stage. He seems more confident in his movements now and has become more active.
Well, that outfit itself wasn't that bad. Just that he carried it on for too many years. Like he couldn't afford something different for each leg. Switching it up would be key.

Poor guy He seems completely lost.
That poor guy. I saw him the first time in Oslo, when it was a festival and he set it up, right before GNR was supposed to play. While he was setting it up, I thought, what now? Will he just know it works or will he test it, with all the people there. Well, he told everyone cover their ears and did test it. 2 weeks later, I see them in Bern, it doesn't work and he goes pale and Gio comes over to console him. And then obviously the same shit again in Weert. Yeah, don't wanna be him. It used to work like a charm previously. In Budapest it wasn't even set up anymore.

Why is GN'R less popular in North America compared to everywhere else?
in GUNS N' ROSES - DISCUSSION & NEWS

No. It does not. It absolutely does not. Unless it's a show that lives from Pyro like Rammstein.
