Yeah Dorothy is a great singer and puts on a good show. The other guitarist in that video is a good friend of mine.
I don't really like her albums, but this is great:

Yeah but the GN'R of 2006 was a very different beast. You'd never see the current band opening for anyone, including the Stones
No band is too big to open for the Stones. If they asked GNR to open a show or two, do you really think they'd decline? I'm not so sure...

To you yes, but not to 99% of public. Both came out of sunset strip in the 80s, both play hard rock, both have singers that can't sing anymore, both have members of crossover fame (slash and tommy lee) the bands are basically the same set up 2 guitar bass drum vocal. Obviously to those of us who can pick different subgenres within genres, they have different sounds, but they both fall under 'rock' or 'classic rock' the same way van halen sound nothing like GnR but come from same area and play the same genre, so of course they are lumped in together. Metallica and GnR toured because people think they're basically the same and they are literally different genres whereas GnR and Motley arent.
Today you'll see a classic rock playlist contain nirvana (grunge) metallica (metal) Acdc, rolling stones, the doors, gnr motley etc. You can argue the two that sound most alike out of those are gnr and motley. Today people only care about names. Names equal $$$$££££ and thats all they care about.
I really don't know how some people can't grasp this.
Yes, GNR is a better band and was more 'hard rock' whereas Motley was more 'glam'. But they definitely share a large group of casual fans and the general public still lumps them into the same '80s sunset strip rock' category.

Buckethead
Bucket, Brain, Brewer, Axl, Melissa. No vocals, Axl plays piano or maybe some rhythm guitar on 1-2 songs. I'd travel anywhere to see that show...

Agreed. It hasn't been the same since Church of Rock N Roll imo. Gonzo and then disbanding was a big mistake imo, as they had some amazing momentum in 2012. I saw them 3 times that year and they were a force to be reckoned with. Got to hang out with some of them at the gigs, too. They were really cool dudes at those shows
Their set at Bumbershoot 2012 was one of the best shows I've seen. I can see why people hated Gonzo, it's basically a 180 from what made them successful, but I love that record. It was great to see them gain a bunch of fans with S/T and Church, but they were openly displeased with some of the decisions that came with being on a bigger label, doing bigger tours, etc. If Gonzo had been followed by another Church type of record I think it would be a lot more appreciated, but I can't blame them for going the independent route.
Their newer albums don't have great production, but there's some gems on each album... Dreamscape, Love Like This, The Forbidden Kind...

They did mix it up earlier on with nitl.
I remember seeing skrillex for example.
Yea they've had some 'odd choices' open 1 or 2 shows (Skrillex, Deftones, etc) but would be cool if they did it for a full tour.

I saw Foxy Shazam open for Slash in 2012
Their quasi-reunion is a little underwhelming, but at least they've released a few albums and are still a solid live band. 2012 was the first time I saw them, and they were incredible.

I wasn't really thinking co-headline, more of a big band that could bring in a slightly different crowd. Have you checked out Nickelback live? I've just seen clips but I can imagine a GNR crowd enjoying them - pyro, big choruses, big hits everybody knows. I'm not going to bat for Nickelback they were just one band that sprung to mind. Carrie underwood would be a leftfield choice, even with her supporting them before and helping out with vocals on that show... but in America that might work, Europe I don't think she's crossed over. Whatever they do there's only so many times they can take out Dirty honey, Gary Clarke Jr and Tyler Bryant. The scrapped covid tour with Smashing pumkins was a good match.
But yeah bands like Metallica/Foo figthers co-headlining with GNR makes no sense other if the bands just wanted to tour together despite each losing some money... which isn't impossible, but I think we can rule out Metallica ever touring with GNR again though😄
I haven't seen them, but I know people who have. If you like their music, their show is enjoyable. But 'pyro, big choruses and big hits' also applies to bands like Motley lol. Someone like Carrie is supposed to be a left-field choice, she's successful on her own and would bring a different audience, but there's also a connection.
I'd like to see them get 'weird' with the opening bands - Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals, Yelawolf, Foxy Shazam, Jelly Roll, Stop Light Observations, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, there's tons of cool artists they could bring on tour. I've seen 6 shows since 2016 and Alice In Chains opened 4 of them... I like AIC but give me some variety lol.

I know ticket sales have fallen a bit for gnr, but they are still more than capable of headlining without the help of another act to bump the sales. Motley wouldn't move the needle. They basically share the same fans for 1, 2 motley have an even worse live reputation than gnr.
An example of a good pairing for stadiums would be GNR/Nickelback, complimentary but different style and has a slightly different fanbase and they don't play stadiums so it would be worthwhile for them. Billed as the the two most hated bands in rock. I don't even like Nickelback all that much but I'd be interested in that pairing
I honestly think Carrie Underwood would be more likely as a 'co headliner' at this point. I can't see Nickelback being a good fit at all, or any of those pop-rock kind of bands. Maybe RHCP, since they're another 'old school LA band' and they barely play more than 90 minutes at their own shows anyway lol. I think RHCP would probably be the closest to a real 'co headline' show, because if we move onto bands like the Foo Fighters or Metallica, GNR would definitely be the opening band...

Slash technically isn’t the original GnR guitarist though
If it irritates Nikki and makes them look like cunts for firing Mick, I'm ok with bending the truth a bit.
But we can always hope for a Paul Huge guest spot, too.

Come on now, Axl Rose is not allowed to poke fun at bands that got rid of original members.
Axl being the one to poke fun at them is what would make it so funny

I'd like to see it just so that during GNR's set, before his solo, Axl could introduce Slash as 'our original guitar player' or something snarky like that.
I wouldn't bother seeing Motley for free these days... but it would be pretty cool if GNR took a page out of their book and did their own kind of 'Crue Fest' tour (similar to Slash's blues festival tour I guess). 3-4 younger opening bands, cut the set down to 2.5 hours of all-killer-no-filler, record and release one of the shows...

Is there any word on him possibly also touring Europe?
I really doubt it, he doesn't even come to Canada anymore, the closest he's coming to me is Seattle... doubt he'll tour outside the US again (maybe at this point insurance is more expensive than it's worth, with his health/heart issues? Idk.)

He has a band this time?
Brewer, likely on bass again. A singer named Madeline who apparently will only sing a few songs with him each night (I guess she's also the opening act?) And someone named Juno/Netlag who plays synths. Not sure about a drummer...
It's almost a year away, but Sum 41 are playing my city so I got tickets for them... was actually on a bit of a nostalgia kick a week ago and listened to their album Chuck, it's better than I remembered...

So basically 4 great songs that weren't hits?
1. You're Crazy (Lies Version)
2. Coma
3. There Was A Time
4. Dust N' Bones

Killing Floor still gets better with each listen. I've heard it more times on the local rock station than all the NITL singles combined.
The song with Iggy was already intriguing, but after hearing that snippet I'm really looking forward to that track. This album is gonna be such a fuckin jam, hope we get another single in April...

Yeah that's absolutely not true but you and @evilfacelessturtlecan think whatever you want. I'm going off of what I've been told recently by people associated with the band, not random internet speculation.
There's been a nosedive in quality from WOF to LTD and 4... I'm sure Slash enjoys SMKC and of course the rest of the band enjoys it, but is he as passionate about it as he was 10-12 years ago? Probably not. I can see where these other users are coming from, the last couple albums were stale and they seem to exist just as an excuse for Slash to tour.
Killing Floor was such a breath of fresh air, even though it's an old song. It's way more fun than anything on 4. The last minute of Monsters is the most 'classic Slash' moment I've heard in a while. At this point it does seem like once he has 10-12 ideas, he assembles SMKC and they quickly do an album so they can hit the road.

Got Buckethead tickets. Really interested to see what kind of shows he'll be doing with this band he's assembled...
Buckethead June 5
Rolling Stones July 5
Slash's Serpent Festival July 8

I only listened to I'm Just Ken once, it's fine but it's not something I'll listen to again intentionally. I don't even know why it's included in this list? I'm replacing it with Monsters lol.
6. The General - What a boring song this ended up being. For a song about such a serious topic, it's ridiculously simple. It doesn't go anywhere, kind of picks up at the end but then abruptly ends. If the term 'leftover' applies to anything they've released, this is it. We know they have better, more 'complete' songs, it really seems like they released this just because the title had become mythical.
5. Absurd - It was shit in 2001 and was even worse in 2021. Still their worst studio song, the only redeeming thing about it is that it's fun live.
4. Hard Skool - An ok rocker with bad production. The demo was much better, though both versions we've heard have their issues... had it been released and performed in 2016 it probably would've been better received.
3. Perhaps - By far the best of the officially released songs, but it's still mediocre. I really liked the demo, but the simplified release and the fact that it never got a 2nd verse really bring it down.
2. Killing Floor - I'm really digging this cover, listened to it probably every day since it was released. Finally heard it on the local classic rock station today too. Even though it's an old song, it's such a refreshing change of pace from SMKC. Brian sounds great in the lower register and Steven's addition's are really nice. Really looking forward to this album and stoked to see this tour in July...
1. Monsters - By far, the best song we've heard since the reunion. It's an actual gem from the vault, a song so good that even the simplified NITL mix is strong. It reminded me of the first time I heard Better, sure the quality isn't the greatest but what a fucking song... I love the vocals (the backing vocals kind of remind me of Sorry, in a good way) and the bridge is insane. The last minute or so is the most tasteful, classic playing I've heard from Slash in a while. Absolutely crazy that they chose not to release this song last year...

If they really wanted to get the CD2 stuff out, they should have done it between 2009 and the reunion. Post 2016, they should have kept CD2 (unreleased) in their back pocket, record an entirely new album of new material with some covers to make it easier/faster with the NITL lineup, then mix the two albums up (CD2 and NITL album) into a double album, each album having a combo of CD2 and actual new songs. They had unfinished and finished songs too (CD3) that NITL could have used. Would be a great way to transition from that era, to NITL.
Mixing re-recordings and new recordings would sound weird. They should've just released all these re-recorded songs as an EP in 2021, then do live or cover EP's for following tours if they wanted to.
But don't worry, only 4.5 more years until we totally get all the CD era songs in a box set. We just need to now believe even more.

I think it's much more, those are the songs he's got and his vocals for the most part are still amazing on them and he cannot be arsed to go through the whole writing recording releasing process again, even with slash and duff. Plus he can't sing in his most famous register anymore.
Been saying for years, this is one of the reasons a covers record would be cool.
Nobody here should still have any expectations that they'll get into a studio and record an actual new album. That's simply delusional when you look at how this band operates. But covers, that Axl doesn't have to write anything for and actually enjoys performing? It could be great. He could absolutely nail some Alice Cooper or Thin Lizzy songs, and of course Wichita or Marseilles... if people want fun, old school music from GNR, I think that's the only realistic option.

I'm so stoked for this album, it's coming out on the same day as Slash's blues record.

They've only been teasing this album and playing songs live for like 3 years, so it's not too bad. I posted their single Daydreaming on page 2 of this thread almost a year ago
They released an occasional single and Anderson .Paak has released tons of good music, I can't really complain if it took them this long to really get back together for an album and hopefully tour. The singles have all been great so far.
