I think an original song with Axl is too much to expect, but I'd love to hear a studio version of You Gotta Move... or Sway... or Wichita Lineman...

Todd is great at what he does - singing covers in a bar band. I mean that as a compliment, I'd love to see a Slash show where Todd sings some GNR songs, Always On The Run, Dr Alibi, etc...
Toque seem like a fun band.

I prefer the studio version. It's too bad that the drums got replaced. Overall, the song is just better for me as the official version with Slash and Duff.
That's fair, I prefer the demo but that doesn't mean I hate the single, I can see why people would prefer either version.

It's hard to rank the songs only using the official versions, and songs like SOG and Going Down would be somewhere in the top 10 if they were included, but my list is something like this. I'm including Monsters because it's likely one of the next releases.
Prostitute
There Was A Time
Better
Sorry
Monsters
Street Of Dreams
Oh My God
Catcher In The Rye
I.R.S.
This I Love
Chinese Democracy
Shackler's Revenge
Madagascar
If The World
Perhaps
Rhiad And The Bedouins
Scraped
Hard Skool
The General
Absurd -

I have to say that the Hard Skool version in the Village leak is a mess. The drums are good, but the guitars are all over the place. Slash and Duff cleaned up the song.
Of course a lot of people will prefer Slash's guitar tone, but it's not just that the drums in the demo are better, they completely change the energy and drive the song. The intro could be cut down a bit, but overall I think the demo is way better. The loud mix/master, simplified drums and all the vocal effects really bring down the released version...

You seriously think Scraped and If The World are better songs than The General? They're really really not.
Hell yea, especially If The World - great raspy vocals, nice Bucket solo, and as far as the 'experimental' songs go I'd say ITW hits the target it was going for (fun Bond kind of song) much better than The General. ITW was great live, too.
Not that Scraped and ITW are top tier songs, but I'd rank The General as barely better than Absurd...

Monsters would easily be a top 5 track on CD. I'm upset Atlas never made it, that was an obvious radio song from the album.
The demo versions of Hardschool and Rhiad are both good, and the final versions of both songs are mediocre. Yea, they could've been swapped on the album, but Hardschool still would've been one of the weakest tracks.

We’re not counting Soul Monster?!
I guess it makes sense to only rank the officially released songs, since most of the demos are better and would probably be ranked differently, but he should've at least included OMG. (I know Monsters isn't a demo but it's unreleased so I see why it's excluded).
That said, Monsters, Going Down, OMG, SOG, and the TIL remix would rank higher than several of the officially released songs...

We don't know exactly when he quit smoking (cigarettes), but it was somewhere between 1994/95 and 2000. He was smoking cigars after that, not sure if/when he stopped that.
He probably still smokes weed and cigars sometimes. We have no idea obviously, but he was taking puffs from joints that were thrown on stage as late as 2017... but wouldn't his penchant for tequila be more damaging than occasionally smoking?

It’s not Axl’s fault it’s been overhyped for years and bound to fail
I don't think that's why people are disappointed with it. It doesn't really go anywhere, it's very repetitive, soaked in effects, it's just not a great song.
After The General, Soul Monster was absolutely the next most hyped song, and most people here think it's the best 'leftover' we've heard. It seems to have actually lived up to the hype. So I don't think The General was bound to fail because it had become mythical, it failed because it's boring.
2 hours ago, Towelie said:I find it strange how The General has illicited such strong reactions from the GNR hardcores. To me, it's easily better than at least 6-7 tracks from Chinese.
I'd say Monsters is the only song we've heard that could've replaced anything on CD... and maybe Hardschool if they'd kept it similar to the Village version.
I'd love to hear the Bucket/Robin versions of these songs, but I still don't think The General would've been strong enough to replace anything on CD.

The only appeal of this tour seems to be 'I still want to see Angus live' or treating it like a sendoff. Maybe a few 'residencies' at places like Wembley, Coachella, River Plate, etc with Cliff would've been more exciting. Brian deserves a last hurrah, but he sounded bad at Power Trip and I can't imagine him doing 20+ shows without issues...

I don't understand why anybody would hate Bad Apples. I can get being ambivalent about it, I guess, but not hating. It's possibly the last collaboratively written song by Slash, Axl, Izzy and Duff.
It feels like one of the only real 'continuations' of AFD... of course there were older songs on UYI, but Bad Apples has that great guitar interplay, has a Stones-y influence, and shows that if they got their shit together they could still write great songs as a unit. It's probably their most underrated song IMO.
As for OIAM... I'm not gonna defend the lyrics but as a whole, it's a great piece of art. Great instrumental, great vocals, and for better or worse the lyrics will evoke some emotion...

Hell yea, in his prime he would've killed it on Piece Of My Heart and Kozmic Blues, too. But these days, I wouldn't want to hear him attempt those...
I'd like to hear modern Axl (and Slash) on songs like these...

I could never be a fan of someone who wears diapers on stage so she doesn't have to take a break, sorry.
Yea, I read something whenever her tour started about fans wearing them so they wouldn't miss a second of the show, but this is the first I've heard of this rumour. I know basically nothing about her, but aren't there several stage set-up and costume changes throughout her show? Not like she's on stage for 4 hours straight, and most of her outfits probably wouldn't hide it well...

Sounds like it was done quickly with the rock band stems. That guy has several CD remixes (that he made) on his channel, there's no reason to think this isn't fan-made...

Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats are always great. I saw them for the 3rd time last night, but it was the first time they've come to my city... hopefully they liked the crowd response and come back soon

People always mention Oklahoma, Quick Song, etc. but The Rebel actually sounds like something Slash and Duff would sound great on. I can easily imagine a 'modern' version of it.
Zodiac, Tonto, Oklahoma and Circus Maximus are the most interesting from the Village leaks. But I want everything with vocals, whether it's a gem like State Of Grace or a turd like Eye On You, even if that means finally buying a ridiculously priced box set.

Monsters is far and away the best Guns song in many years. I take back what I said; that should have made CD
A double album would have worked,
Disc 1
Chinese Democracy
Shackler’s Revenge
Better
Atlas Shrugged
Street of Dreams
Riad and the Bedouins
IRS
This I Love
The General
Monsters
Disc 2
Madagascar
Hard Skool
Absurd
There Was a Time
Catcher in the Rye
Scraped
Perhaps
Sorry
If the World
Prostitute
"What could've been" is the best way to describe this band. Imagine they actually met the March 6 2007 date and dropped basically another UYI kind of release. 2 CDs, maybe a couple bonus tracks, just clean the slate again.
If they had finished versions of Oklahoma, Tonto or Zodiac, add those somewhere on either album. Going Down definitely should've been somewhere on CD2. OMG and TIL remix could've been bonus tracks. The fact this project dragged on for a decade and Axl's still fucking around with these songs is truly absurd.

Did this guy just put Shackler's and Prostitute over Street of Dreams and Maddy?
Also, If The World fucking rules and IRS is the most AFD/UYI sounding track on CD.
Prostitute is the best song on the album tho
CD is a great album, but the biggest problem is that we've heard better versions of almost all those songs. The album versions of Rhiad, Catcher, Street Of Dreams, etc sound so lifeless compared to the demos.
23 minutes ago, ZoSoRose said:I have zero problems with any ChiDem track. Scraped is the weakest for me but I don’t think it’s awful. I even think Riad is a pretty rad song.
I put Prostitute, Street of Dreams, Madagascar, AND Shacklers in pretty high regard.
I disagree with people who say they’d put all the Chinese takeout songs on the album and replace existing songs. Only one I would do is Scraped with Hard Skool. Even though I like Perhaps and Monsters more than Scraped, that slot should go to a rocker.
If anything, the takeout songs we got and are getting could have been added so Chinese could have been a double album with the top songs dispersed between both records.
Doesn’t matter now
If there's anything I'd replace on the album, I'd swap This I Love for Monsters.
The demo version of Hardschool would've been a good replacement for Scraped or Rhiad, but the single version (which is probably close to the 2008 version) isn't good enough to replace either of them IMO.
They should've just dropped 2 albums, 11-12 songs each, in 2008 at the latest.

Red Hot Chili Peppers with John (2020): I like Frusciante but, IMO, what they were releasing with Josh was far better than what they delivered with John since the reunion. It all just sounds uninspired, rushed and on autodrive.
I've tried to get into the albums with Josh, but they're just not that good IMO. Unlimited Love might have been a 'safe' comeback record, but Dream Canteen is by far their best album since Stadium Arcadium. I definitely prefer John...

He wouldn't let Bucket outshine him on his own album. Maybe Paul can play some rhythm guitar.
I wouldn't be surprised if Steven is on a song again, Brain would be awesome and Josh is a real possibility. After Matt's book, I doubt he'll be included in their solo projects again...
