  1. All their excuses for not working on new songs are pathetic.

The band are just trying to take the pressure away from Axl - which is quite decent of them. They know full well that Axl is the only 'obstacle' to new music being recorded.

Is that because Axl is a dick? No, it's because he is wired differently to the rest of the band. He can't just "turn on" his creativity the way others can. I'm reluctant to use the term "bi-polar", but clearly Axl's productivity comes in random cycles.

Could be very possible. I think that Axl's perfectionism deters him from putting out new material. He is known to be quite sensitive to criticism and reads alot of his own reviews(he thanked Kurt Loder for his positive review of Rock In Rio III, he mentioned a review of Oh My God having a 'disco beat' in it, he said some reviews of Chidem were a blood bath etc). I think the combination of being a perfectionist/control freak and being ultra sensitive prohibit him from moving forward. His previous success and fortune also make it so he is not forced to put anything out either.

  2. Axl thanked all the line ups whilst onstage and that's as close to sharing a stage with Slash he's going to be ever again. It's a whole different kettle of piranhas than Duff and Izzy.

Was nice that he thanked all the line ups actually.

This is Axl's best scream imho. Funny thing is that it's from 2002

This one was good. Funny thing is, I remember everyone critiquing/nitpicking the hell out of this performance back in the day. Now, i'm sure many of us would take this back in a heartbeat.

Yeah. Everything is relative. It's a great scream, but it was just one brief and momentary instance of Axl's greatness. The rest of the vocal performance, when compared to 2006 and 2010, wasn't anything to write home about.

The other big difference back than was people only had performances back from the classic lineups to compare. We last heard Axl with GNR in 1993 (or 94 at the R&R HOF to be specific). His return in 2001/2002 produced a very different sounding man. So it's within that context that people weren't too enthused with the vocal performances of 2002. Now, looking back on it, and comparing it to what we've heard over the past year or so, it wasn't so bad. Moreover, there were moments of brilliance (like this clip) that seem so elusive nowadays.

Since he came back in 2001, I think 2002 was his most consistent year vocally. 2010 is incredibly, incredibly overrated among many. Sure, the rasp was there, but it sounded horrible for the most part, not always. And he was out of tune so often it was disturbing. And that's when the out of breath thing started as well.

Have to strongly disagree with your assessment. I saw the band five times in 2002 and I was never in awe of Axl's vocals the way I was in 2010 when I saw the band perform three times.

Sure, there were a few things that Axl couldn't do in 2010 that he could do in 2002 (like the scream in LALD), but for the most part, he sounded much better (and by better I mean sounding like his old self from late 80s and early 90s) than 2002. And I wouldn't agree with you on pitch; Axl's always been a pitchy singer. There were several moments in the concerts I attended in 2002 where he was off key.

Amazing that he sounded better when he was 8 years older in 2010 compared to 2002. I don't buy the whole "He is 52 years old, he can't sound like he did in the 90s" bullshit when he was totally kicking ass a few years ago. It is possible he did damage to his vocal chords after 2010. Someone told me he has surgery on his vocal chords against medical advice which I think could be very true also.

  3. Not in this lifetime

They're just bloated celebs at this point like Axl

Both of them are totally irrelevant to todays music (which is fine by me) but they keep saying this same shit forever

Actually Axl can't sing anymore so it's not worth it

PS: Bam Margera WILL die from 2-3 years now on if he doesn't go to a rehab or something.

Pretty much. Slash's guitar skills are still there but he hasn't put out a good and memorable guitar solo since the first VR record in my opinion. Axl's live vocals are pretty bad. If they got back together(fat chance), I would go see them just because I would love to see the original line up together live but I know it would be far from perfect.

  4. Every thread here has attrociously mean posts.

If I were Axl and I lurked here I'd mickey the shit out of some of you guys every show on the tour. I'd then organize one heavily secured show, with a blacklist at the door, metal detectors, all camera, phones and recording devices strictly forbidden. I'd then rasp the shit out of the show, play a new song, log in here the following day and post a single 5 second clip with unprecedented amounts of rasp. Then fuck off forever.

    But you are not Axl.

  5. I am thinking that we are starting to come close to a point where Axl will start thinking about the next record. He might even say something about that this year.

I think we are starting to come close where Axl will start to think about starting to think about the next record :P

  6. axl looked ok until 2006. he's been obese since 2008.

    Obese?!!

My god some people are completely delusional or have no idea what the definition of obese is. 5-10kgs outside of a healthy weight? Sure, obese ? Get the fuck out

He's not obese, but he's lazy. He doesn't give enough fucks to workout just enough so he's in shape and can deliver I give a fuck performances.

I agree with that to an extent, but even then I wouldn't call it lazy. His performances aren't lazy, but from what he is capable (or maybe at this stage, we are getting to dare I say, 'was) then yes. To draw comparisons to Elvis, this is from the last performance he did, before he died, he was overweight, out of shape, but gave it 110%

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWqax9iHfRU

that motherfucker gave it 110% until he left the building well and truly.

Wow... That is giving it everything you got. What a talent.

  7. I'll leave the word to someone who knows him much better than me:

Tommy: The fucking most amazing thing about this guy, about playing with him, is that, he gets up there and fucking does a fucking 1000 % of what he's got every time he shows up, and fucking people come out in their fucking thousands all over the fucking world to see that. [A.V.'s Podmass Central, June 2013]

Dj: The one thing that impresses me so much with playing with someone like Axl, there's not one of these songs that is easy to sing, and this guy goes out and not only runs for three hours on stage, full blast, singing these songs. He does it night after night and it is just mind-blowing to me. I don't know how he does it. [...] Pretty insane. [...] He's old school. Everything you hear he is singing, there is no lip synching. It is the real deal, it is raw. [in The Now, May 2013].

Richard: It’s a pleasure to play with him. It can be an incredibly intense experience. I’ve never stood next to anyone on stage that is that intense. He is definitely exorcising demons at times! [Australian Guitar, March 2013].

Bunch of kiss-asses protecting their livelihood. Axl doesn't run for three hours on stage, full blast, night after night.

You are right on that one. But the overall gist of what they are saying, which could be condensed down to th opposite of him being lazy, I believe is genuine.

Btw: Nice to see you again, Young_Gun. I hope you are having a blast :)

Thanks buddy :) Things are well. I still remember our convos, thanks for that as I really appreciate it :D

  9. Every time Schwarzenegger puts out a movie, some people are hoping there's a new GNR song.

As Jerry Seinfeld once said "Some guys just don't like lifting those weights"(in regards to continuing stand up comedy and new material). Axl seems content with playing things safe.

His documentary was good about how much work it takes for a comedian to build material.

Seinfeld is one very intelligent and confident guy. I saw his interview with Howard Stern and he mentioned that quote about comedians who end up going into other fields because they don't like the constant pressure, effort and time needed for comedy.
