It's a win if they are heard in any form, however part of me would be disappointed if they were released under his own name and not Guns N' Roses. It would go against everything he has said since the band disintegrated in the 90's, but it's better to have them than not - which I don't think we will, I reckon they'll still be drip fed under the GNR banner.

I agree, I’d prefer all of the CD stuff to be released as Guns with Robin and Bucket’s stuff there. But I’d accept those songs as they were with those players over any NITL version through any release method.

  2. I'd be much more receptive to Slash being on these songs if they could do it in a way that doesn't make them sound like a mess. If they were mixed properly, it would be a start. So far, Perhaps has been the best in that regard. The weird transition from Robin's two seconds into Slash's dull solo is jarring and takes me out of the song for a moment, but back again right before the solo ends.

So you admit that Axl prefers Slash’s take on the released singles over Fincks, Bucketheads and Bumblefoots?

No. If I had to guess, he probably prefers the original solos. But, he respects them enough to give a little, even if it means sacrificing the overall quality of the song. Another example of this is Bumblefoot's solo on Riad, which is garbage IMO.

There won't be any lead guitar by anyone other than Slash or Fortus on new GNR songs. It is literally asinine to me to think you're gonna hear Buckethead soloing on new GNR releases while Slash is in the band. None of the Slash replacement dudes solos will stay on whatever they plan to release...that is an OLYMPIC LEVEL stretch. Don't set your own self up for disappointment like many like to do with this band.

Why not? There already has been, we got two seconds of Robin on Perhaps, maybe even more. Bucket's kill switch intro to Silkworms was kept.

I've watched it exactly once in this lifetime.

I've seen it twice. The first time was at work, so I couldn't fully immerse myself in it.

The second time, which was recent, I was at home, and not sober, so it was much better. (But still not great)

Overall, the Perhaps video is better, however, Fernando being in the Perhaps video took it down a notch, not as much as Slash's guitar solo though. It needed to be in a higher note, didn't match the song. It was nice they kept two seconds of Robin, and the very last bit of Slash's solo sounded alright.

In opposition to those who think Axl is the only one who makes the decisions I believe as long as Duff and Slash are in GNR there won’t be song releases without their input.

I think Axl, as a courtesy, may ask for some input, but I believe he's the ultimate shot caller. If Axl really wants Robin to stay on Zodiac when it's released, Robin will stay on Zodiac. If he likes Bucket's solo on Seven and wants it to stay, it will stay, etc. If they ever drop an album, of the 12+ songs, it would probably even be easier or smoother to include a few tracks with parts from older members intact, much like there was on the 2008 album, and we already have this to some extent with the NITL releases.

  6. Wouldn't it be great if after they officially release Monsters, that they later release a CD-era mix titled Soul Monster? Same with Hard Skool, vs Hardschool. Name the older mixes with Robin and Buckethead something that can differentiate them from the NITL versions. Even if it is on some bonus or digital download, it certainly would be welcomed by the hardcore fans, even if rough mixes. Minimal effort required.

You're all forgetting the most IMPORTANT factor to these desires. Axl writing lyrics and recording vocals.

Well, that goes without saying! I really hope he finished some of the better Village instrumentals we got with vocals.

Example, if it weren't for the fact that he played an Elvis Prestley cover song he had created - all by himself, about 27 years ago - for some friends and one of them decided to talk about it, we wouldn't have known about the existence of this tune.

Where did this info come from? I'm curious.

  8. Was listening to Velvet Revolver's Libertad in the car yesterday.

It gave me some hope, as the current band is basically a blend of Velvet Revolver (old guns) and "New Guns". With the more traditional rock sound VR had, with the more experimental, or even weird Chinese era stuff, I think actual new material by this lineup would be good. I imagine Frank will play drums on new material, stuff that Brain or Josh wasn't involved with.

At least until it morphs into the "new" version halfway through the solo. Still such a bizarre inclusion for a film.

The live performance in the first part of that song sounds horrible. I wish they used the full studio version instead for the movie.

Claimed to have The General & said it was kind of similar to Sorry in that it was doomy Sabbath sounding. Also was meant to have Silkworms & OMG no idea if they were the versions that leaked back in the day or not though.

I didn't realize he claimed to have The General. Not surprising though, he also claimed to have at least one version of Leave Me Alone (Soul Monster) which may have been from the same source.

If I remember correctly, he had Silkworms, possibly a version similar to the first live versions played, which would be great, especially with Buckethead. He also talked of Oh My God with Buckethead. He said he knew there was a version with Bumblefoot out there, but he didn't have it.

Wouldn't surprise me if Axl record a lot more of the catalogue with the new band...probably all live tracks that were to be the early live sets....he did tell us even they had done YCBM too, didn't he?

This thread has the info you seek. :) You Could Be Mine and Patience replaced two of the songs on rerecorded AFD. I really wished they released this as a bonus, even if download only, or on some tacky flash drive from the Guns store. I'd happily pay good money for an official version of that. Easy money for the band to help with legal issues. :P

no, Axl never said that CD ll would be out in 2009

D: I know this is jumping the gun big time, but any tentative idea when you would like to see the next CD come out?

Axl: No, maybe same bat time, same bat channel next year but we'll have to see.

I know! We were both hanging out with Bumble before the gig! He played the Catcher and TWAT solos on his guitar for us

Amazing! My dad and I had a quick chat with him in an alley before the show. He was super cool. I got his autograph on my ticket.
