  1. I feel like there is a part in Slash's book where he writes about Billy Joel coming backstage at the Use Your Illusion tour.  I thought he wrote about how much a Axl loves Billy, The Eagles, and ELO but I could be mistaken.  It's been awhile since I picked it up and I don't retain much from books.  I suppose it was a learning disability that followed me into adulthood.

Its good to see Axl called upon to take a guest spot at a big show.

  2. Since we are discussing the all important issue of race and demographics of gnr fans, has anyone else in the US noticed the current trend of our African American brothers and sisters wearing rock t shirts.  Good thing this little fad coincides with an unprecedented supply of GNR apparel.  I see lots of black men and women in gnr shirts right now.  Whether or not they are actually fans is questionable.

I love over when they get it wrong. I saw a guy wearing a Nelson shirt a few days ago. Someone should tell him that Nelson sucks.

  3. I agree with Ronin.  It's possible that if GNR mostly stayed together in its 1994 configuration that today's band would be playing theaters or double-billing an amphitheater show with Def Leppard in 2017.  They split at the right time in my opinion.

Imagine what would have happened if in 2000, Axl showed up with the original line-up with a new album (and in slightly better physical shape), played a show in Vegas for NYE,  and then did Rock in Rio.  Rock fans would have gone nuts and it would have propelled the band back to what it was pre-1995.  I think the break was necessary, but it's too bad they broke up.  Had they kept playing, I agree that it's possible that music fans everywhere could have tired of the big production, big videos, etc.

However, on another note, had GNR not split in the 90's, maybe MTV would still find it necessary to show videos (in the US anyway where MTV programming went to all reality TV).

I think the media, I'm not sure want is the right word, they kind of want Axl to be a celebrity, act like a celebrity, give them access, date famous people give them something to write about. But since that doesn't happen he gets the bad boy or crazy guy of rock n roll, and they get mileage out of that. It's not necessarily personal but that became his role, coming off the controversy of early Guns, Axl emodied the whole GNR thing even if he didn't always do everything. At first it's like any Publicity is good publicity, but then you want to sing about more than just street life or whatever.

The weird thing about the 1 album of material is that if GNR had stayed together with Izzy and Slash writing, I think we might have still only got those 6-7 really Axl Rose songs - SOD, TWAT, Catcher, Madagascar, TIL, Prostitute. We may have got Axl singing on Izzy tunes or putting lyrics on Slash material. There maybe a few more of those lurking, But we got a good dose of Bucket, Finck, Tobias, Pitman. I don't know, looking at it now, is it better for GNR's legacy that we didn't get 3 albums of those guys material sprinkled with 6-10 Axl songs. And I know the whole Axl songs thing isn't pc or whatever, but as I see it those songs like SOD, Catcher, TIL only happen when Axl is around. Those 6 songs on CD are what we would have got from Axl in that period from 95-2005 even if Guns were still together. I look at what Slash and Izzy were doing elsewhere and I think yeah Axl could have sung on that and it would be basically a good GNR song. I think mostly Slash's material would be much cooler with Axl singing, even if sometimes his lyrics aren't that sexy. Izzy I feel like are better with him singing unless Slash really works it up to be heavier. Seems like there's a couple of Slash/Izzy GNR albums that I'm missing, but I got Axl's GNR material for those years. So overall I don't feel like I missed that much.

Great post.  I agree with you.  Axl's "solo" contributions to Appetite and Illusions were few and aside from his lyrics contributions, don't think he is capable of being a song writing Factory and probably lacks the confidence in his own work to put out more songs without serious collaboration from other band members.

Do you wonder if Steven is trying to force everybody's hand, to what gain I'm unsure but he is definantly gunning for a response from the big 3. I see duff being the one to come foward if anybody.

He obviously sees Izzy as an ally right now, I have no way of knowing if that's true or not. Izzy seems to walk away from drama so I doubt he will respond but he might align himself with Stevens need to have everything out in the open and agree to give his side. I doubt his still angry, so now might be a good time.

As the anniversary draws closer, I think the interest in all 5 will intensify, so why not just set the record straight from the beginning or was the "moving right on" comment Izzy totally turning his back on anything GnR.

Rock history has shown that Steven's strategy won't work.  It never got Don Felder back on tour with The Eagles.

Of course. alot of bad history between Axl and Steven. plus Steven isnt as likely to simply go with the flow if something doesnt vibe with him, and isnt afraid of confrontation. Not to dissimilar to Sorum, which Id imagine is a big reason he wasnt asked to play with them in any capacity.

I agree on Steven not being involved, Doesnt he seem he wants to be involved moving forward either unless its in full capacity and with Izzy being involved.

Maybe he's gonna join Ratt instead:P

RATT is awesome.  One time, I was on this shitty gambling boat in Peoria, IL playing cards with a few friends when an announcement came over the intercom saying "Ladies and Gentlemen, we have very special guests aboard the Paradice Casino this evening!  We have the members of the hard rock band RATT and let's make 'em feel welcome!"  My buddies and I were kind of drunk and losing a lot of cash but we were cracking up running around the banks of slot machines looking for a few guys who resembled aging rock dudes from the 80's.  The funny thing is that they weren't even playing the casino that night. This was about 9-10 years ago I guess.

I guess Mr Buchanan doesn't like me taking credit for my contributions to his news.

Also, I never meant that Izzy was offered a big sum of cash to do the entire tour in place of Richard.  I only heard he was going to take on guest spots in the AEG and Mexico City shows, with Richard being the main rhythm guitarist. After I leaked Mexico City and a few dates that were the same on the original routing map, I was more or less shut out of any useful news that would benefit anyone here.

Not surprising that Axl didn't speak to Steven.  I would say he has zero chance of participating in anything GNR tour related from this point forward.  Is Cinderella still touring these days? Maybe they need a drummer so Steven can play larger venues.  I saw them play a huge country bar a few years ago.  There must have been 1200 ppl there.

Me too! I wish I could have just have seen them in their prime when they were all together with no bullshit. It is obvious they do not want him in the band....at all lol. At least I got to see him in Nashville with the band for his 2nd show on the tour. It just does not look like all 5 of them will ever get on the same page. It is kind of sad but like he said, it is what it is.

    That was my greatest memory.

There are actually two new stadiums, Sun Trust park opens in April and Mercedes Benz Stadium opening in the fall. They scheduled the first concert at Sun Trust...fuckin' Billy Joel...really??? :P

I saw SunTrust park too.  I like to go eat at Papasitos at Windy Hill.  It's the only one outside of texas.  Or at least it used to be.

Thanks for all the info last summer. I saw you caught a little heat for it.

Have you heard anything about the Bonnaroo site that is rumored for August 5 ?

I heard there was talk of a mini festival at the same place where Bonnaroo is hosted but I dont know who would be playing with them.  I think it would be a bad idea for GNR to headline their own show there.

You shouldn't confuse festivals like Coachella with the Euro rock fests tbf.

Rock am Ring, Download, Werchter and Wacken are all quality rock events. Guns will smash those and it'll be great, and a million miles away from the too cool for school Coachella crowd where 90% of the lineup is as far away from rock imaginable anyway

I understand this and have actually been to Download Festival before.  All I know about Rock Am Ring is that it once had the best available 2006 era GNR  high-quality youtube videos that I would often use to prove to my mates that Axl could still sing.

The only thing lamer than a US music festival these days is a US EDM festival.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year friends.  Stay safe out there.

  12. Festival culture sucks, the people who are not fans suck, sliding around in shit and mud when you only came to rock can get in the way of your good time.  I'm glad that the 2017 Guns N' Roses can fill a stadium almost anywhere so we fans don't have to deal with all of that.  The best thing I ever did was sell my Coachella tickets and make plans to go to Mexico City and Vegas instead.

I got my STL tickets in the mail yesterday.  I'm getting fired up for the summer.
