I'm pretty sure it's one song.. 2 parts.. The General is about his father/step father Monsters is most definitely written about his mother.. There's a few parts of the lyrics that back this up.. (your Satan /your husband laughing), kid references & a few others that are easy to identify. I wish they stayed away from the echo vocals.. But listening to this 2 part song multiple times, I have grown to absolutely appreciate this piece/pieces.. Especially coming from similar experiences. Kudos to Axl for A. Bleeding out such pain & B. Healing enough to share it with the world.

Anyone figure out the lyrics to The general yet? I personally believe monsters is written about his mother and the two songs are connected similar to brain damage and eclipse.., we will rock you /we are the champions.., etc.
