  1. One thing I hope for in the near future (and never thought would happen) is a 50th anniversary AC/DC tour. Going back to listen to the back catalog and work my way forward until the album comes out. I wonder if they did work on more songs based on what Angus said about there being a lot of Malcolm and Angus song ideas still kicking around and put them on the shelf for now. I am hoping Rock or Bust was filmed and still hoping they would have put them out with Brian on one disc and Axl on the other, with a documentary.

Yep. I know. But I don't want them to be re-recorded.

That's when the magic will be lost. The songs would never be the same.

Outside of trading circles, there would have to be interest for a Chinese Democracy Deluxe to be released.

I think if someone decided to make a book about the making and release of "Chinese Democracy", it would be like "The Longest Cocktail Party" about The Beatles - a lot of it ties into the music industry at its peak and dramatic fall. A lot of people still don't know why Axl was "in hiding" in 2008 and didn't want to be in the public eye, he said it wasn't a great year for him even though he was happy to see the album finally released. They'd have to get the Axl and Del James "blessing" to do it though and have access to all the tapes, notes, etc, including some of the stuff MSL wound up in possession of.

  3. I wonder how much Axl knew GNR lost in the Universal fire - I doubt rough mixes/work tapes were stored there but the Use Your Illusions and The Spaghetti Incident masters were probably part of it, and Live 86-93. If Greatest Hits went up in flames, I'm sure Axl, Slash and Duff could care less. It also makes me wonder what master tape they used to work on the AFD Super Deluxe. Surprised Axl hasn't Tweeted about it.

Unfortunately these tracks will never be released officially. Will never have CD II, or a boxset. I'm pretty confident about that.

It could had happened all those years, when the reunion was just something to laugh about..

This story here with 15? 20? discs, proves that "Axl's vault" is not a joke.

And @Dexter.. Goddamn it man.. Just release some music. That's all we want. We all know you read these with @Fernando.

Odds are the next GNR album is going to re-record some of the ChiDem II songs with Slash and Duff and some stuff that was supposed to be for the third Velvet Revolver Album. The songwriting credits will kind of give away where the songs are coming from.  Axl was working on that follow-up in the middle of releasing ChiDem but Interscope had zero interest in supporting him at the time, for that and the remix album.

I think GNR were using 5 studios, probably double that if you're counting home studios, and bands like APC used GNR's studio time to do the first album. I know The Palms in Vegas was one of the studios.

  5. The artists that recorded for MCA Records in the 50s-80s are the ones that had the most to lose in the fire - Steely Dan, The Crusaders, Spyro Gyra, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Neil Diamond, Jimmy Buffett, Bing Crosby, pretty much everything US Decca from the swing era - and some of the 80s metal bands and pop groups on MCA. Bobby Brown/New Edition...   Also keep in mind there are remaster projects that also happened in Europe and Asia and the master tapes were shipped over - sometimes those remasters were better than what was released in America. Casablanca was bought out by Universal so that includes KISS and P-Funk tapes.  Irving Azoff looked into it but he hasn't sued... yet.

  6. The Punk documentaries did a pretty good job of telling the story. There was still a lot missing but Wayne/Jayne County's left out of a lot of docs - Part 3 is pretty much the Decline of Western Civilization - Alice Bag, Keith Morris, Jello Biafra, Henry Rollins (and where Duff shows up and mentions how DOA was an influence on him, but they all get into how DOA literally built the hardcore punk club network cross country), and part 4 is Riot Grrl, Nirvana, Offspring, Epitaph Records, Warped Tour, up to present day.

Somewhere in the middle of this I watched The Slits documentary and highly recommend it.

Some more quotes after Get in the Ring was released:

Bob Guccione Jr.: “I have just heard your song Get in the Ring and I want you to know I heartily accept the challenge and thank you for the invitation. Let’s do it, I say, at your earliest convenience. By the way, I mentioned in the press that I’d be only too happy to oblige you. I take the fact that there has been absolutely no response from you to indicate how busy you must be. I mean, what with canceling concerts, starting riots and beating up paying fans trying to take pictures of you, what a schedule you’ve had! I sympathize. So I just wanted to let you know, directly, that as soon as you're ready I am too. Perhaps until then, you shouldn’t sing that song. At least not too loudly, eh?" [Indianapolis News, October 3, 1991]

Bob Guccione Jr.: I don’t think Axl Rose sits at home and wonders how he can make himself look more of a bad boy. I think he’s just a bad person. [A Current Affair, November 7, 1991]

Axl replied to Guccione's challenge, admitting also that he had "hit him below the belt":

Axl: [...] I did hit [Bob Guccione Jr.] below the belt with my comments. [...] And, you know, that’s a problem of mine, but he wouldn’t let up. But this Get in the Ring thing isn’t necessarily literal about getting in the ring with boxing gloves, you know. Otherwise I would be a boxer. [...] But to get in the ring, I feel you need integrity, you know, and that disqualifies Bob right off the bat. I don’t know, I’ve heard a lot from him and he’s made certain actions that I know about and he doesn’t know I know, and there’s other problems. But the guy should just, like, shut up and write about rock ‘n’ roll, you know, and forget about Axl Rose and just... If he’s got a problem with Axl ,he could do something else. I just want him to shut up and print the truth. You know, he’s printed a lot of lies and a lot of things I said that I didn’t say and it pretty much makes me sick. And it creates problems that I have to work with in my life. [*] But we’re doing alright and Bob seems to be the one who’s really upset, so it’s cool. [Rockline, November 27, 1991]

[*] Axl maybe is referring to the "Guns N' Neuroses" article - that was released at the same time as the Illusions, though, so Get In The Ring didn't stem from it.

He also said that he intended to sue the magazines:

Axl: Now there’s a lot of people - kids, adults and otherwise, other bands – that don’t understand why we did a song like Get in the Ring. I’ll tell you a little bit about that song. I think that I hit Mr. Bob Guccione a little bit too hard below the belt. He’s proven the reality of that by the way he’s acting. Cuz there’s a lot of these magazines that... The real reason that they say shit and they won’t back down and stuff, [is] cuz they don’t want to lose face with people that buy their magazine. Because it’s all about giving their Mafia boss distributors your money. It ain’t about rock ‘n’ roll. It ain’t about what bands they like and what they don’t like. It ain’t about what’s true or what’s false. It’s about how much money some fuckin’ greedo in his suit telling fuckin’ people (?). And how much money they get from you. And we’ve got a little something to announce. You know, we gave them their chance to get in the ring. Then we’ve got Bob going, “Guess who put on their boxing gloves and it’ll be pay-per-view.  What is Don King. It’s gonna be amazing.” Wrong. If it was about boxing, you’d see me in (?) hanging. There’s two things you need to get in the ring. That’s integrity, and there’s something you earn and that’s called respect. Now Bob, and Vince, and Circus, and Kerrang, they don’t have either of those two things. If they really wanted to get in the ring, they’d sue my fuckin’ white ass. But they’ve been notified now that we gave them their chance. We gave them a chance to be cool, we would have pulled the song off the record. But no, they just had to keep starting shit. So now we’re suing them! This started just about two days ago. It started on a flight here to Boston when we made the decision. Because if there’s one thing I can’t stand, it’s a Double Talkin’ Jive Motherfucker!  [Onstage in Worcester, MA, USA, December 5, 1991]

And that someone of those called out in Get In The Ring had paid a hitman to kill him:

Axl: [...] And so there’s a lot of people that say, “Oh, Axl Rose has wimped out and didn’t want to get in the ring.” Honey, I won’t put on no boxing gloves, I’ll have you shot in the fucking head. Then again, I’ve got such a big mouth. You might not know this, but, you know, there was some people out there who got really upset about Get in the Ring, so they hired some people to shoot me and it didn’t work in L.A. That’s a real pussy approach, I think. If you wanna get in the ring with me, you bring two things: you bring some integrity and you bring some respect. And Bob Guccione and Circus Magazine, you don’t fucking have any. Now these people have been starting shit for about three years. I haven’t done an interview with Circus Magazine for three fucking years. I mean, a lot of money’s been made off shit I never said. I mean, there’s a lot of people that’ve been ripped off for shit I never said, because of the bunch of assholes who want to make money off of you, motherfuckers, by using us. So we got pissed off and we put a little song on the record about it. Now, doing that song live is about the same as doing One in a Million live. There’s really no need for it. It’s a little bit of a hit below the belt, it’s been done, it’s been said, it’s over with. But these people wanna just keep starting shit. So we’re prepared to put our money where our mouth is. We’re going to court. You wanna get in the ring? We’ll get in the ring. We’ll sue your motherfucking ass. Let’s go. We dedicate this to Get in the Ring part 2, and the action starts. This is called “Double Talkin’ Jive, motherfucker”. [Onstage at Madison Square Garden, NY, USA, December 5, 1991]

Now Bob says that he was told by John Cougar Mellencamp that Axl wanted to kill him. Mellencamp is from Indiana, but I haven't read anything about him and Axl being friends or talking.

Probably when GNR played Farm Aid but musicians are funny as far as who they keep in touch with. Fermanager knows.

I feel the opposite. I had little respect for Neil to begin with and even less so after watching the movie. Doesn't the dude have multiple DUIs? Like, he didn't learn his lesson after killing Razzle.

I know someone who was driving too fast and he was barely above the legal limit - .09.  his girlfriend was in the passenger seat - it was a winding road and was going too fast. He did 3 years for second degree manslaughter, it took years before he got his license back.

Vince should have done at least 2-3 years, not 2-3 weeks. How he was allowed to open a winery and open a tequila business is beyond me.

Slash really is so good at those statements framed as compliments because he doesn’t have nice things to say. “Oh Frank? Oh yeah, he has been playing drums for a long time.”

I’m also bummed out he hated Velvet Revolver so much. I understand he was going through serious issues but Contraband was a foundational album for me, it’s like finding out your entire childhood your parents hated each other but we’re just staying together because they had to.

I think he just sees that time as a bad experience and probably should have been left off as a one off supergroup album. The Libertad tour had wife issues going on, but this was all in Scott, Duff, and Slash's books, and eventually Matt's.

If it was up to Slash and Duff, Matt would be back only because of how long they've been playing with him but that's more rhythm section related - Duff's too "diplomatic" to say anything.

Just a couple of questions......From my understanding, Axl still owns the rights to the GnR name, but didn't he sell the rights to the back catalog some years ago??

Secondly, if there is new material, and there are some disputes/negotiations with the current record label as to release....Is there a current contract in place, that says GnR must provide another record to the label, or is there any kind of deal in place at all??? If not, what's stopping Axl from starting an independent label, such as Metallica did, to release new material on "his" or the band's own terms?? I can see if he sold the back catalog, why that would not be possible, but what would prevent future releases, which could also involve any live material as well?

Lars and James got their masters from Elektra, and GNR probably have a wait to acquire it because of renegotiations with record labels over the years. Interscope didn't do Axl any favors.

I think for Axl, putting new music out only to have people stream it for free and a handful of fans are buying it plays into why he's reluctant to have anything new out, but we're also going "covers EP" just to have something new out there. . I also think they're all unsure how things will get in the studio with new music, but we don't know if they've been working on new music in secret (on off days, in soundchecks, or in their home studios), either.

Axl showing up at Billy Joel concerts, someone who hasn't had a new album since the early 90s, is probably telling Axl not to worry about it, you'll sell arenas and stadiums out off of what you have, but I don't think GNR's home base of LA has the love for GNR that NYC has for Billy to keep playing Staples Center every month.

  11. It's sci-fi rape, no different than some graphic forms of anime or what's been in past issues of Heavy Metal magazine.  Nothing about it promotes sexual assault.

Should all art be white fluffy clouds?

I was going to post Hitler's paintings to make a point of how someone who did horrible things made such bland paintings, but feel free to Google.
