  1. Im driving in from Detroit to go to that show, only to turn around the very next day to see the one in Auburn Hills, MI. Im bringing my girlfriend with me. We got general admission tickets, right on the floor. Im going to be there early, and wait in line so I can get right up front. Ill probably be there at around 3pm (think that is early enough for a concert that starts at 8?)

  2. I wan't gonnA bother going...but, Then hyped myself up and made arrangements to go....

Asked for time off from work, scheduled a baysitter , the whole ten yards!!

I was just going to hit the sack for the night, to get ready for another work week..

i'M soOOOO done WITH HIS aSS!! bITCH!!

wow, Axl rescheduling a show actually surprised you? get a clue 'juice box'

  3. Without being too negative because just cos a record is not that much fun doesn't mean it's not great art etc. but I have a feeling that CD might not be as fun as AFD or UYI.

AFD was great fun because it was both dangerous and controversial. Although at some stages the subject matter was dark there was a swagger and for every My Michelle sleazeathon there was an Anything Goes party tune.

By the time Illusions came along the band was splitting up so you had Axl's ballads which were not that much fun, but then you had Izzy's tunes which were lighthearted and offbeat and then Slash was always bringing some of that party rock he does so well. So there was a balance. GNR were still a rock n roll band and for every introspective song there was something to keep the party going.

Now it's Chinese Democracy...and I'm not sure I've heard anything with any swagger or any truly rock n roll songs from the new band. That's not to say the songs aren't good. But just about every song seems to deal with pain or angst on some level. With the prominence of Axl's ballads and the rockers being more like grunge meets industrial theres no real chance of their being any songs on the album which you can burn down the highway listening to.

Part of the appeal of GNR to most fans was the escapism of songs like It's So Easy, Bad Obsession, Live and Let Die and You Could Be Mine - a certain carefree attitude or sense of relief you get when you are listening to those songs - a "fuck it" attitude which gives you an adrenaline rush.

I'm just worried that somehow this album is a gonna be a triple album of miserable songs with nothing to really make you happy to be alive. I hope Izzy donates a couple of songs or Axl finds some of that Hanoi rocks boogie behind the wall of modern rock he is making right now.

I personally like the new songs because of the 'art' behind it. Im not much a music 'fan' rather than a music 'afficianado.' I like the art of it, rather than the message itself. GNR is unlike anything, making them unique, either you dig it or you dont. If you want plain generic rock, go listen to Nickelback, if you want a new piece of art, here is GNR. GNR moved beyond generic rock into art a long time ago, if your just catching it now, your dumber than I thought.

  4. Why would he want to move to NYC having a great house in Malibu?

Yeah, because you can't find a great place to live in New York...

sure you can, except that even if you plunk down millions of dollars in NYC, you are still living within 100 feet of someone else. not like Axls mansion in Malibu where he has a private estate with a security fence and surveilance cameras.

nyc is not the place for someone who wants to be private.

  5. To make the fans happy, not the true fans but the fans that only know the classics? Is that why? That is called a sellout.

If thats the definition of selling out, then GNR would sell out if they played any of the old classic material, because for a lot of fans, thats what they came to hear. So with that said, even if they did take November Rain out of the setlist, by your definition they would still be sellouts.

Although I have never heard of a band being sellouts because they played their own material (actually Axls material, because November Rain was written by him, and yadda yadda). Your arguement is full of holes all around though.

  6. If Axl loses the braids, then you will see the bandana back, but right now, it really doesnt serve a purpose as all his hair is pulled out of his face by the braids. Axl ties his hair back now, rather than just let it fly around.

  7. Id buy singles and the album, for sure. Singles are sold just in case you only have like $5 bucks on you, or your a collector. They are also used by radio stations, and its another way to grab a quick buck. Also bands release singles to release the single and perhaps a live version of a song, or a bside.

I dont download shit I dont intend to buy later on, thats cheap, and thats being a sellout.

  8. It's a cool CD cover, but remember that a few other bands have released Chinese Democracy albums or singles. It also says, if you look on the bottom right-hand side of the CD, the names of the companies which publish the album - as far as I am aware, GNR isn't associated with any of them.

Also, I somehow think that Axl won't have given this CD out to roadies. He's going to be very careful who he gives it to if he doesn't want it leaked early.

the 'roadie' clearly states that the person who had the disc was someone who worked for GNR and was some girl, and the roadies pulled the CD out of the ladies briefcase for the snapshot. it wasnt hte roadie himself who had the disc.

  9. So, it seems for real now, CD is almost out there!

Axl said CD will be out this year and Richard said it will be out during the next US tour.

If the tour starts at the end of october, that means there's only months left in the year.

I think it's safe to say that it will probably be out in November. November or very early December is good timing because of christmas time.

    What do you guys think?

I think we'll get the first single before the tour kick off as singles mostly come out 1-2 months before the release of the album. There's a video to shoot too..

I think the next 3 weeks will be kinda quiet and after that a crazy GN'R storm will hit the planet

I agree 100%, this year more than any year has more creditiblity, because this year it is Axl himself that said that it will be out this year, not a 'news source' or some obscure producer or even a member of the band. Axl is the only guy in this band that has any credibility when it comes to this.

toward the end of this month, I think they will release the single, soon followed by Chinese Democracy!! Excitement!!

  10. Maybe Axl wants to show American promoters that he can actually show up for shows. I think these shows are there for a purpose, not a warmup (who does like 8 warmups shows?) they are probably something to spurn US promotion, or get some US hype going before the actual tour kicks off, that, and to show US promoters (like ClearChannel, who books major arenas in the USA) that Axl isnt the same guy he was in 2002 when he bails on every other show.

  11. I'm so sick of hearing about how artists should pander to the "younger crowd" or how they should be worried about how the "average music fan" perceives them. The truly great artists don't concern themselves with that and if they did they got over it. Two examples that come to mind are Neil Young and Bob Dylan. Axl doesn't have to prove himself to anyone, he's already done that. The only thing he has to do is make music that he believes in.

You make a good point, but I don't think anyone sees Dylan or Young are has-beens-they are considered well-respected elder statesmen who still put out meaningful albums. Axl does not have their track record. I personally don't give a fuck what the masses think either, but there is a lot on the line with CD, both finacially and commercially. A mere critical success or underground following is going to get Axl dropped from his record deal. As much as I hate it, this album has to sell to be perceived as a success by the suits.

I believe you, and agree on a lot of points, but Axl is in the same arena as a Dylan or Young, but Axl has enough clout to rebound even if his label dumps him, because I am 100% sure that there will be other labels that would be willing to sign him and Guns N' Roses.

They wont give him as much freedom as Interscope did, but labels will always be lining up to sign him. As long as he can sell even a moderate amount of records, he will have a job. Neil Young was dropped by a label because he released an album that 'wasnt his normal style' and he is still out there doing his thing.

I think as long as Axl doesnt disappear for 10+ years again, he will always draw a crowd, he has a reputation, and the media will never let go of that reputation, and as long as the media still covers him, there will be a draw to him from even a small fragment of the mainstream community.

Look at the Rolling Stones, they release new albums, none of them are 'mainstream' successes, you wont see them on MTV promoting their new album, their new albums dont even sell all that great compared to mainstream acts, but they still manage to sell out arenas and stadiums all over the world.

Axl has taken steps in the right direction to show that he is back, he just has to keep on track, do his thing, and get something out there. As long as he can do that, he will be alright.

    Merck

I dont know how you can say Merck is doing a 'great' job, maybe a 'decent' job, but I have yet to see any promotion from the band for any of their US shows. At least when Doug Goldstein was managing the band, the promotion got so overdone that if you werent at a GNR show, or at least knew about it, you would be living under a rock.

Now, if you know when a GNR show is coming to town, you have to be a computer geek who cupcakes the internet specifically looking for GNR dates.

  12. i used to like Green Day when i first started buying CDs when I was about 9 or 10 years old (about 12 years ago) back when they were 'different' and really on the cutting edge, and I was actually a fan up until about the album after Dookie, then i realized that the songs were pretty much the same.

i started looking for something different and drifted apon rock music.

  13. Ok, I always hear people in the 30-ish age group talk about the 80s and how those were the good times, and I'll hear people of that age group reminice about the "Cheesy '80s", Reagenomics, and movies and bands just plain good memories. There's even been some movies that have a tinge of '80s nostalgia. It seems like the 60s, 70s and 80s always come are thought of sentimentallly and nostalgically, but I never hear anyone talk about the 90s, ever. Why?

Also, feel free to share some of your memories from the '80s. It does sound like it was a good time.

People say the 80s were the 'good times' musically because music tended to be more 'happy' and 'upbeat' (aside from the stray bands like GNR and Crue, and some others), whereas the 90s were more depressed and dark.

  14. I haven't heard one guitar solo so far off of the new material that even comes close to capturing the magic Slash brought to the band. I think the best new solo is the one on the outro of The Blues, when Axl is singing "I---e----I---e----I", the solo to accompany that is amazing. The second solo in Better is also good, and TWAT's outro is superb, yet, whenever I hear the solos to Don't Cry, November Rain, Estranged...etc, they blow away all of this new material, easily.

I agree, compared to the old material, they dont match up (mostly because we have grown to love the old material, as that is what we base our love of GNR on, so our opinions are a bit biased).

But taken as a separate entity, and judged by themselves, the solos are great, better than a lot of snot out there, and thats how we should judge them, because comparing the new songs to the old songs is like comparing a Motley Crue song to a Van Halen song, two totally different bands.

Live is where I see the problem. People might disagree with me, thinking the live shows stack up. They are cool, don't get me wrong. I thought Robin was kicking ass. It's just that the more boots I see, the more it's sticking in my craw that Robin messes up the old solos. It's hard to get past. He's a bit goofy on stage as well. Cool? I don't really think so.

Robin 2006, is 100000x better and more 'cool' than Robin 2002. In 2002 he was so bald it looked like he was 50 years old.

  15. Axl can do what he wants, if he didnt, he would just be another commercial rock singer like Scott Stapp or something. If he just stood there, you all would be thinking he cant move anymore. Take it or leave it.
