  1. i think Chinese Democracy will cater in a new breed of Guns N' Roses fans, people that didnt like, or havent heard much of the original GNR. You will have 15 year old kids digging the new Guns N' Roses stuff, then eventually they will go back to the older stuff, but many young kids first impression of GNR may well be Chinese Democracy.

but us hardcore fans, it will be hard to replace Appetite, but we will enjoy Chinese Democracy, and the new generation will have Chinese Democracy as their Appetite For Destruction.

  2. i agree,

people around here overanalyze everything, Axl probably meant one thing, and you are taking everything a different way. he obviously knows which tracks were leaked, because he had them pulled off the internet (or his managers did, and Axl had to have known about that), he probably just doesnt know which mixes were leaked, or anything like that, simple as that.

there are probably different versions of each song (ala CITR, which may have Brian May on on version, and the new guitarist [or Robin or Richard] on the other version.) No one knows, simple as that, quit reading between the lines.

  3. You believe they don't have egos? You believe they appreciate?

They had a 3rd guitarist before, so it shouldnt be a shock. Plus, they wont leave, Axl is paying them more than they could ever wish to get anywhere else. Richard Fortus and Robin Finck dont have the clout in the industry Slash did.

They know that this is Axls game, he does what he wants, if they dont like it, their paycheck is gone, their nice houses in LA are gone, and they are back to living in Georgia, simple as that, and I think they know that.

  4. Talked to her at work today, her names Kendra, his ex sister-in-law. She still talks to him and VR a lot. I asked her about VR breakin up and Slash goin to GNR, but she said that VR is taking a break, cause they do that a lot. She said that it would rock if Slash went back to GNR, because VR doesn't do much anymore, but it isn't true. They are planning a tour atm, and she still promised me back stage passes so that pretty much rocks. But yeah, so don't hope for a summer re-union tour.

i talked to Axls psycologists dogs veteranarians great uncle Toms sister Tracys nephew Brendans best friend Tommys babysitters mother Barbaras father Joes bowling buddy Jimmys mistress Stacii Coxxs physical therapists wife Natasha, she said Axl kicked Matt Sorums ass out of GNR for a reason, hes a dipshit.

  5. That would indeed be awesome, Im planning on getting tix and driving over from Detroit to New York to see GNR. Reason being is Im not sure how much longer they will be around. In 2002 I said that I would get to see tons of them, and needless to say 3 weeks later the tour bombed.

  6. I play bass mostly, but I have both guitar and bass gear. For bass I pack a 1989 Fender Jazz Bass Special and a Yamaha SG100 for a backup, that I run through 700 watts of Ampeg power. I run that through a rack compressor, aural exciter, chorus pedal, multi effects and a wah.

For guitar, I couldnt tell you, I dont play guitar enough to care.

  7. Gunners,

It's unequivocal that with Axl taking the stage in May, time is running out on Axl to get the album released before then. With under two months to go, it's highly unlikely that the marketing/promotion machine has the time necessary to blow this out for a May release. What makes no sense to me, and I am sure the rest of you are baffled as well, is why Axl even took GNR on the road 4 years ago and then delivered nothing...So this tour is exciting for all of us, but it still does not mean we are any closer to getting Chinese D. The leaked tracks are really no sign of things to come because they were not leaked by Axl himself. So I think this new tour is going to be very interesting, indeed. It's been 4 years since he performed live, will he sound better, worse? Will there be 3 guitarist or 2, and if 3, who replaced bucket?

If back in 2002 when they were touring, I came onto the forum and said we would still be without an album in April/May of 2006, all of you would have chastised me. But here we are, and no it's all starting over again, a European Tour, then probably onto the VMAs again, then an American leg of the tour. But still no official release date.

Personally I think Axl has been a fool for holding onto this material for so long. He should have at least had a studio single out by now. He also looks damn old nowadays. Anyone else feel this way? He looked so much more vibrant and personable back in 2001-2002...but all of these recent Axl shots depect an old man that's hard to look at. He used to be a sex simble back in the Illusion Days, now he looks washed up old man. I don't think he is in great shape and I am worried, that even though the studio material will be great, Axl is going to sound terrible on tour this time around. He struggled in 2002, just compare any of those bootlegs to bootlegs from 91-92, and 4 years have passed and he's probably been sitting on his ass.

My prediction is the studio material is amazing, but GNR LIVE shows are going to be an embarrassment. Which is why I am more excited for the album than any concert. But still no album, depressing.

Its not a tour, its a string of dates. GNR did the same thing before Use Your Illusions, they played a handful of shows, during which time the release date was announced. Expect a release date in May or June, just enough time to get an initial hype that will spur ticket sales.

  8. If they don't go on general sale, where/how do you think we'd get tickets?

    Bork_axl

Either a radio station will give them out in a prize package, or if the venue is a local 'hotspot' they will admit anyone that comes in off the street.

  9. Axl has the highest percentage of the back catalogue i believe.

    Wrong.

The back catalogue is owned by Rose, Slash and McKagan.. they all share an equal percentage.

If Guns N' Roses material is sought after for commercial release.. all three must be notified and consent to it's use..

Since Rose failed to inform both Slash and McKagan of several lucrative offers.. they have sued for compensation.

An example can be seen when producers of 'Black Hawk Down' asked for clearance on 'Welcome to the Jungle'. Rose informed them that he would only allow it to be used if his new band could re-record it.. thus swindling Slash and McKagan out of their royalties.

The producers refused,.. and a lawsuit was filed.

    -Kickingthehabit

Wrong again, Axl has no publishing rights to the songs, Axl was acting as if he did. He has no right to license the songs, Slash and Duff do. Axl acted as if he had the right to license the songs, and told producers to shove it unless he could rerecord them and take full royalties.

So I guess your partly right, but Axl legally has no publishing rights for the songs. He gave them up to Slash and Duff in exchange for the Guns N' Roses name.

    Wrong, you are..

Rose recently signed a multimillion-dollar publishing deal with Sanctuary in terms of his percentage of the back catalogue..

Slash and McKagan filed a lawsuit accusing him of changing the publisher of the group's copyrighted songs without their consent and pocketing the royalties.

The Guns N' Roses partnership is a mutually binding agreement between Rose, Slash and KcKagan..

The three of them must consent to licensing the material..

    -Kickingthehabit

Publishing rights are different than royalty rights. Slash and Duff can license the songs, but Axl still gets royalties. Read the lawsuit.

  12. A reunion would be nice, and it would make things sound a little more realistic. Buckethead left, Tommy is doing the Replacement thing, and Soul Asylum is lining up dates (which Tommy will probably play in mid April and June), a perfect entrance for Slash and Duff?

Slash and Axl have been saying good words about each other, its very feasibile that they worked out their problems, it has to happen eventually.

The only sticking point is that I dont think Slash would be able to play with the guy Axl slated to take his place (Robin Finck). I know Duff would do it if Slash and Axl were on board with it, but Slash wouldnt do it with Robin unless it was clear that Slash was the lead and Robin played rhythm, but that would bump Fortus out (unless there were two rhythm players).

If we soon find out that Fortus/Finck are out of the band, then I would say that a reunion is more than likely happening.

Velvet Revolver arent working on an album, Scott and Matt are doing solo projects. It could happen, with all the rumors it makes more an more sense as to a possible reunion. But Im willing to bet 80% of all the rumors are skewed facts, or there is information missing or overexaggerated.

I think Axl may have tried to reunite the band at some point, it would only make sense, he knows the original band would make heaps more money and sell out stadiums, I think he learned that after he found out that he could only sell 5000 tickets and quarter fill arenas on his own.

We will have to wait and see, once we see what the lineup looks like at Rio (or whatever concert is first), then we will know the truth, we wont have to wait too long.

  13. Got my new Classic Rock magazine through this morning, lots of GNR articles so I suggest you pick it up.

Anyway, page 12 says something along the lines.

"Axl attempted to re-unite the band with Slash, Duff, Izzy and Matt Sorum, for 2 shows in the UK one at Download Festival and one at Hammersmith, both would be filmed for a DVD and Live CD and all members would make millions each, all parties were interested in this reunion, but before they could sign on the dotted line, one of the members lawyers noticed in the fine print that it said by agreeing to these terms and conditions the rights and back catalogue of Guns N' Roses would go to Axl Rose, this halted all negotiations however rumours have still flied, we won't know what's happened until Download itself arrives"

    that sneaky axl

Wait a minute......i thought axl already had the rights to the back catalogue?

Axl owns the name Guns N' Roses, but doesnt own the exclusive rights to the back catalogue, that is shared between Slash/Duff/Axl and partly Steven and Izzy.

Slash and Duff however own the publishing rights to the songs, Axl signed those away in return for the Guns N' Roses name. Axl has been trying to get those back for some time. Its all very divided now.

  14. I run an Xciter to a Multi-Effects proceccor to a Chorus to a Wah, and thats on bass guitar.

Multi-Effects processors tend to sound more bland and cheap, and I usually keep my Chorus on all the time alongwith the Xciter, and with the Multi-Effects, Ill mostly just add some compression on a song, or add some drive for a bass solo. I also have some custom effects on the Multi-Effects.

But mostly I run 2 different effects at all times, thats not something you can do with a single Mutli-Effects.

  15. I keep hearing huge figures that have been spent on CD and I always thought that most of that was for continued studio time. But someone mentioned that a lot fo the recording took place at AXL's home studio, is that true? if so, where has the huge figures come from, just salaries of those involved? (Musicians, producers, etc..) ? That's a lot of salary money.

Before Axl moved to his home studio, he would rent out whole studio complexes (not just one studio, but the whole building) for months on end, and spent tons of money on equipment, paying producers/musicians. Lots of studios out in LA cost upwards of $100 dollars an hour, so one day is $2400 bucks, so thats almost $90,000 a year, just for a studio, so he has probably spent close to $1,000,000 just for one studio, and thats on the lowside. Not to mention he is paying people for doing nothing, brought in the best producers, the best equipment.

Its quite easy to amass a bill of $13 million dollars when you are paying 5-6 people full time salaries that live in Los Angeles, and paying producers.

  16. The last tour, the New York show at Madison Square Garden sold out in 15 minutes, where the show I went to in Detroit were still being sold up until the show actually started, and even then it was only 2/3 full.
